Since a couple of days I notice a drastic increase in isk spamming in local and with mail.
Some of the isk spam comes with mail as soon as you enter local. But most often isk spammers just sit in Jita and spam local all the time.
Sometimes isk spammers fly automatically around from system to system (even through almost empty low sec systems) and spam until they leave system again.
I petition those isk sellers most of the time and I hope that this will help.
One way to counter spam (not only from isk sellers) would be to implement a fee for talking in local depending on the system status. It wouldn't hurt the small guy to pay 1000 isk or so for talking in local (make the fee dynamic depending on the system status like number of people, sec status or whatever) but it will hurt the automatic bot spammers. |

If ISK Spammers were in control, there wouldn't be any. CCP doesn't want them in their game, therefore when you see them in the game it is because they are out of control.
So they've always been out of control.

CCP should make a pay-per-ban isk program, although the spammers would find a way to ban themselves and profit.
I was also wondering if the change to PLEX trading is freaking out the isk farmers?

It is VERY VERY VERY easy to spoof the CPU ID.
It's incredibly easy to do and would only create more problems than it would solve.
The CPU ID was a brain dead attempt to track computers and what users do. Microsoft loves it because it helps with the activation ball and chain they use, which by the way is so broken it doesn't work many times for legitimate activations.
Within a few hours there was a patch for Linux that changed the CPU ID to whatever you wanted. 0xDEADBEEF is one of my favorits. Anyway it's incredibly easy to do and you could spoof your enemy's CPU ID and then do things to get THEM banned.
Did I mention it's easy to spoof the CPU ID?

CCP needs to higher a local student or 3 to sit in Jita, and when someone spams local for isk or whatever, click a GM level tool that blocks all communication from that person, and automagically joins them to a chat channel full of other spammers, so they don't notice, and they sit there and spam each other for hours on end.

Edited by: Ralnik on 24/11/2009 21:01:08 I typically fly through Hek once a day which is one of the smaller trade hubs. It's insane how much those ****ers can spam in the time I jump in one gate and move out the other.
I swear the same guy (or alt 4 the day) will have spammed 20 to 30 times in the time it takes me to jump from one gate to the next. I think there should be some way CCP can write a script to auto detect spammers in their locals and mute them.
This should go for contract spammers too, because we "ALL" know they are using macros which are against the EULA. At that point maybe the local would be worth a **** for something other than creating giant ignore lists.

yeah, $30 a ban. That in my opion is the best way. After all, if the game tried to detect spammers. What if we were just chatting really quickly? I had that happen in so many games.

I see a ton of macros and spammers. I'm not sure if CCP just gets rid of the spammers because they are annoying and leaves the macros because they like the $$ they get from them. They should get rid of macro-ers and spammers all in one whim, quickly too. It ruins the game for the rest of us.

My idea to stop isk spammers:
Don't let trial accounts talk in any channels aside from noob corp and rookie help. Allow them to PM people.
Create 4 new noob corps just for trial accounts, once you sub, you join the normal noob corp.

No no no a thousand times no. They are annoying enough in local can you imagine having a convo request every other hour from some douche bag isk seller?
Maybe if there was an unremovable CSPA charge that only applied to trails then it would work and any newbs who were legit could easily be reimbursed by the players helping them. It would require far more work to convo people (who would refuse), than it currentley does to just spam local.
Quote: Maybe if there was an unremovable CSPA charge that only applied to trails then it would work and any newbs who were legit could easily be reimbursed by the players helping them. You could also have frequency restrictions on trail accounts for talking in local or anywhere else really.
There already are restrictions on spamming channels for trials (wtf is a trail account anyway? oO), and you already have a cspa service charge on convos, even leaving it at the basic rate ~3k isk, would mean a trial account could make only one accepted convo before having to remake an account (as you only start with 5k isk).
So they are more likely, with these restrictions, to pay a sub for one month (or use a plex from farmed isk), to create a valid account. They could then spam as much as they liked, but this in turn would make the 'report isk seller' button actually worthwhile.

I Could not agree more with that. What i think syould be good is to instapetition them by righclickng the spamers and not via normal channels witch take time. Maybe make a tool that would allow game masters to find them and hunt them down easier and faster with just a click or two.
I hope this gets resolved sooner rather than later cause it brakes my immersion. p.s you got money, find them send a few bouncers and brake their legs. Be a #acking viking about it CCP.

Alot of people turn off the CSPA charge for fleet forming and various other activities with require one to interact with others. Opening up a convo throws a focus stealing splash screen right in the middle of your business. All the ISK seller has to do is dump a mil into the trial account and they can spam these all they want. I dont want to fly into Jita while fending off a window every 2 minutes. Nor do I want to stop legitimate people from convoing me. There is no way it would not be Less annoying then something that's contained to Local, which is already pretty annoying.

Simple, just require trial accounts to pay 3000isk per conversation / evemail they send, once the account is activated, it again depends on the person you are sending it to's cspa charge. 3000isk is not a lot of isk even for a trial account (legitimate), and if the isk seller dumps cash into the trial account, its simpler to find the paid for account which is farming isk for RMT.
There maybe increased convo spam for a short while, but as more and more RMT accounts get banned, it will slow down, perhaps even stop.
But then for them to spam convos instead of just spamming local would require a more sophisticated spam bot, one which would have to target next character in local list, accept cspa charge, spam message if accepted, close window, move to next. I don't know how easy this would be to do in eve, but I would bet its more difficult than just copy / paste spam in local.
In another thread somebody suggested that trial accounts not be able to initiate convo's at all. This does seem harsh, perhaps set all trial accounts as no speak (except for noob corp / noob help channels), until they petition or sign up via a website to allow them to speak freely.
The crux of the issue is trial accounts, and how quick they are to obtain, and how quickly they can be replaced, making the 'report isk seller' function fairly redundant.
The solution has to allow genuine trial players to have a good time during there trial, and hopefully subscribe to EVE. I believe the isk spammers are not only detrimental to EVE subscribers, but to potential customers on a trial, who see all the spam in every channel, which puts them off subscribing.
The no chat solution could even be a way to get MORE subscribers, in a way, as they know if they subscribe they will be able to fully interact with EVE and its userbase, beyond noob channels.
Of course this wont stop the spam in noob channels, which is counterproductive, but at the very least it will be a boon for subbed players.
I hope a solution is found soon, one that works, for the benefit of existing customers, and potential customers.

I do not think any chat restrictions would be effective, nor imposing ISK costs on sending messages. Such a cost would have to be low enough to not seriously harm genuine trial accounts, but if the cost is low the spammers will just start to use bots to run missions/mine to cover that cost. If they switch to mining/mission bots I'd imagine the CPU requirements to support the spammers would be much worse than the requirements to support them spamming in Jita.
Spamming has to be made unprofitable while not really hurting genuine trials so Eve can continue to bring in players.
Here is my idea. Implement the free trials differently. Impose a registration fee for the trial (say $5-$10), but after the trial period refund the fee for accounts that haven't been banned for ISK selling (put it in the trial EULA/ToS). If CPP and the playerbase are vigilant enough with reporting and banning ISK sellers to the degree that an account can be banned before it can earn enough ISK sales to cover that trial registration fee we could bleed the spammers dry.
Yeah it would be an annoyance to people wanting to try the game, and would include administrative headaches to deal with the refunds (maybe only refund those who are unbanned and stop playing after the trial and for those who stay apply the fee to their first month's bill?), but some sort of mechanism like this strikes me as being the most effective system. I don't believe anything that doesn't hit spammers financially would have a chance of working long term as it'd just lead to spammers getting smarter.
Thoughts?

Just use a chat filter that removes or changes URL's. "buy ISK from *removed for EULA violation" or the like. As spammers are banned, the rep puts the URL into a list of spam sites and any further references to that site are automatically remove/replaced.
That way if someone accidentally typed in something like "don't go to ..." type gig, you wouldn't automatically ban them, you'd strip out the URL is all but it could be flagged. Once the spammers lose their "site" reference the spam might drop a bit and it's pretty easy to write a pattern match filter so things like http://site_1.xxx - http://site_2.xxx formats are caught too.

I'm not nearly as cheesed off with ISK spammers (I seem to be able to filter the noise out these days) as I am with these idiots spamming your inbox with their awesome deals of the day, particularly when they say they do it because "they don't like to spam local"
