just trying to suggest a method that might help never tested vs a real ore theif. 1 person alone doing this .. the ore theif will just laugh grab all the cans and move on. But if everyone does this it'll annoy the hell outta him and prolly make em do their own mining.
Theres 2 parts of this method... jet can spam and can hopping.

Step 1. First stick alot of cans with 1 ore each.. in a field around you.
Step 2. Open up 6+ cans once your done
Step 3. If you see an indy headed your way start doing can hopping and drag the ore from 1 can to another, keep hopping and call for your corp indy ( pray the theif gets too annoyed and runs off).
I know this wont keep off a determined ore theif, but im prepared to make them work for my ore rather than just grabbing it easily.

I am no ore thief... but my skills at opening and emptying cans is incredibly fast. becasue all your cans are so close together then someone like me would be done with it in about 30 seconds which is faster than a new can can be constructed.
Good idea though

would you waste the time grabbing 1 ore tho? ... if theres 3+ guys in a group you'd have 3x as many cans spread out... tho i imagine CCP might have something to say about the can spam that would pervade the belts...

Seriously, though, you'll remember that there's a 3 minute wait timer on jetting cans, and the thief probably has "show cargo containers" checked in his scanner. So it's a simple matter to approach your cans, and then from the scanner open each one and drag the 1 unit of ore to his hold. Takes about a second, and with each second you have one less can to "hop" to, until finally there's only one can left, with the ore, which he'll then proceed to loot.
You cannot create jet cans as fast as he poofs them because of the 3 minute wait timer on jetting.

Not true. Many ore-thievs stay in high sec space so they can't get attacked. As such, all that is available to them is cheap ore, plag being among them.

Be my guest... id rather prefer just sitting back and mining.
