It is nice to not be forced to download the full client and repair it instead. What are those other amazing improvements? Amazed it's not the word I'd use after reading the devblog, maybe pleased, but definitly not amazed.

I'm more on the "it's about time" side.
tbh, maintenance-wise, I will only be happy when EVE is able to clean up the house and make me coffee. ---

I'm so disappointed.
Where is the intravenous caffeine capability? The built in pizza oven?

Used it once to repair my SiSi client when a patch screwed up (hung background EVE process). Fixed it right up good as new. On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

actually... I can't think of any other online applications that offer this service O.o
sure I can repair form disk with most games, but this is an online updated application. Are ccp the 1st to ever do this or what?

Magic Online do it (at least it did it when I played).

Steam does. Not sure if all games are supported but several times in multiple games I was able to download the correct files after a modding attempt went bad w/o re-dl'ing the entire game.

I'm assuming no Linux support for such a tool?
It's a shame how CCP has completely dropped Linux support. Makes me sad. ;_;
Otherwise this is pretty cool and I can't wait for the expansion. =D

Anyway you could let us in on the other cool stuff for client maintenance that you have on the drawing board???
Maybe the eve community could give you some ideas on some stuff to add to that list, Or even give you constructive criticism on the usefulness of said ideas.
(As you CCP folk already know we are good at -_^).
Please and Thank you.
Thanks, Zen

Is the capability of this tool able to step up to the level of 'auto-patcher'?
Will this be able to find the right patch/file updates for me when the 'correct' one isn't listed in the patch options; or is it just for clients that don't seem to operate anymore (which is what I gather from reading the description)?
That in itself will be useful but I've rarely had a corrupt client, more often I've had an old client copy that I cannot patch because I can't find the one I need.

This is pretty cool, but I like to download and do a clean install with each major expansion instead of just patching up the old one.

As a web developer, I regularly have to deal with a number of rather exceptionally moronic clients. Will this tool examine them in detail figuring whats been corrupted in their brains, and download the appropriate fix for them, or will I just have to continue to suffer?

I dont know if they still do it, but WOW (sorry to bring that name here) USED to have a repair utility, you just had to find it in you wow dir. yourself at the time. used it once after I lost one of my install discs. Ironically, I only played a couple times after that. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

Will this tool fix broken settings as well or just the game files themselves? For example, for some reason on one of my character I just can't get it to permanently remember the sharing settings for mission rewards.

Assuming you can get the software to interface with the sluggish DNA based OS then yes, it should solve your problem. No guarantees however, we've not tested it on all hardware configurations

Alas no, we don't support LInux per se. I don't know where we stand on having people write their own interfaces to the information, but it should be possible to knock up an app that accomplishes the same thing on Linux.

Not in it's current incarnation, no. The Repair Tool is part of a project we're undertaking which is reviewing the entire patching and installation processes, and we decided to release it since it was a relatively simple project with very tangible benefits for the end user.
