I lost 200m+ undocking from Jita yesterday, I never heard of suicide ganking until this happened but have only been playing for 2-3 months.
The insurance mechanic is broken. I'd like to see the accounting because the insurance company should have been bankrupt ages ago. It doesn't make any sense that the insurance company would continue to insure a pirate who actively destroys the insurance company's other insured goods.
It seems silly to me that you can insure a ship but not the contents of the ship. When you find ships among all the other products in the market window, why is it that only the ships are insurable? There's obviously a demand for this kind of insurance as people want to fly with less risk, but apparently the space market doesn't provide it. I'm amazed that populations with such heavy reliance on unprovoked violence were even capable of getting into space in the first place.
Looting another person's wreck is as much a property crime as destroying the person's ship. Why CONCORD ignores one example of property crime and not another doesn't make sense.
For me, the trading aspect in Eve was the only thing left that kept me playing. I've gone through as many different careers that could be permitted within 2-3 months and I felt that this was the most rewarding experience, to be a part of a dynamic market. Now that I'm aware of the risk involved in trading in "high-sec", there's no incentive for me to play anymore. |

Quote: Anyways, as I undocked from Jita in my badger I was ganked and lost over 400million in cargo. YAY!! Rolling Eyes This has never happened to me. I figured a badger in high sec was safe
People need to remember & know that there is NO such thing in EVE as a totally 100% safe place out in space especially in Jita.
Had you told anyone what you were doing & where you were or were going? I ask this because more often than not it is either the ship was on AP OR the person flying it had let it slip about what they were carrying & what they were doing. (Even to people they thought were friends )
So what have you done now? If you were very short of ISK before the loss you are most probably as good as flat broke now which really sucks hard in EVE. (As for GTC's their prices have come down too far I won't be selling any of them any more I don't think as it's just not worth it at the current rates/prices)
Anyway good luck with whatever your intending on doing & remember if your going to Jita to move stuff worth more than a few million just get some sort of scouts or do it just before or straight after DT as if you can get in early enough you usually beat the Jita gankers & will be several jumps out at least before they even login.

Jita just happens to be a popular place for hackers too if you go by the stories in the Eve account hacked thread. So it seems to have all the makings for a seedy metropolis, you can find anything but the contrast is that anything can find you as well.

I find it hard to believe that you've been playing two years and you can't figure out how to earn money so you don't have to buy isk. In summary, you're a bad poster in a terrible thread.

You are aware that there are other safer hubs to trade at that arnt the gankfest that is Jita yeah?
That or the fact that you can safely transport high value good by using the correct tool (ship) for the job, i.e for transporting expensive blueprints and implants a small fast frigate is the transport of choice.
As for the tower as others have mentioned you can buy elsewhere

I had to move a 500M mod out of jita the other day, and being ******ed I thought, "Hey, this one mod will fit in a T1 frig, and flying that would make the trip a hell of a lot faster." Then with the mouse over the undock button, something told me not to do it, I will die undock with a 500M mod in a T1 frig.
So I take it out, buy up some overdrives and a MWD and make an instaundock. Let me tell you, 1500km isn't safe in jita. Not even 3,000km is safe. I passed two grids of gank blobs set up after I got out of the jita station grid. I just let my wmd burn for over an hour and set up an insta over 40,000km away.

The insurance mechanic is obviously flawed given the way it currently works. Is it flawed enough to warrant a complete overhaul? Perhaps, but that won't happen any time soon.
Tanking your hauler/Hulk used to be the way to go (most of the time), but since artillery ships can easily land over 10k damage per volley now, perhaps that won't be enough anymore. Time will tell.

Hauling expensive stuff in Jita is like walking through Ciudad Juarez, Mexico with a suitcase full of Dollars, you know is not a good idea.
The best way to avoid get ganked in Jita is just never ever go there to buy expensive stuff.
There are other hubs to trade, even if you have pay more is better than lose everything.

Yeah, I figured you were probably untanked. There's really no reason not to tank a hauler, doesn't affect your ability to move stuff. Even a massive shield tank will get you through most stuff. If you can't fit it all in 1 trip make multiple and keep the tank going. Passive hardeners/plates/shield extenders are your friend. I can get over 10k passive ehp on a mammoth without nerfing the capacity too much.
Hopefully you got a lesson learned and will tank up next time.

And if these fail to deliver you may comfort yrself with the collateral, rebuy the items, contract it again etc da capo.
You have a brain right?
Then use it.

The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.

Genette devo is probably quite serious.

Courier contracts. Having a deposit higher than the value of the item is a good insurance taht it will not be stolen or lost. And if it is, you have made money.
Hire a reliable escort. There are corps out there that you can hire for protection.

So, you're mad because you fail to understand the game?
I get that.
I used to throw hissy fits when I lost at video games too. I was 6 though.
So buck up partner, you'll get the hang of it, no need for tears. Would you like me to get you a cookie?
I dunno if that will work, but thats what my dad told me when I was throwing a tantrum due to failure to understand game mechanics.
See, apparently, you had to TELL mario when to jump. Who knew?

Well, Thank you for all the comments. Even the jerks that feel its a good idea to be cruel. Eve is a cruel world and I like it.
I petitioned the incident just to see what kind of response that I would receive. I was not really expecting to get anything. I also wanted to show others that this has happened to what to expect. This is what they will tell you...
Greetings Meatslab,
Thank you for contacting EVE customer support. I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is possible for players to destroy your ship even while in 1.0 systems if they can do enough damage before concord destroys their ship. This is an intended game mechanic as the offenders are always punished. I really am sorry for your loss, but I will not be able to reimburse or otherwise compensate you in this matter. If you have any other questions or problems, or would like your petition closed, please let me know.
Best regards, GM ****** EVE Online Customer Support Team
So play smarter. And when people say "flysafe" they are serious.
Ok... you can abuse me now...

Hey ahole... refer to the post.. I mean read it. Refer to post 15 and 1. Do not believe that I said I was mad.
"I understand that not knowing something makes me ignorant. I have know about suicide ganking for some time. I just didnt realize the extent of it. Meaning, I guess, I assumed that it was more like a gang bang on miners or something to that affect. Its never happend to me, and I definatly did not think that it would happen out side of jita. I mean after all, two years without an incident like this can give one a "false sense of security" Yes, that kinda makes me like thos rich folks that act all shocked when it does happen. However it was a wake up call that has redefined my game play. I am not at all complaining. I am simply sharing an event that happend to me. Hopefully others that have no idea will now know and play smarter." Meatslab.
Go be a jerk somewhere eles.

Your the response that you were given is pretty tame and something that we all knew (well almost ;) ) but its generally frowned on.

Coming from someone who IS a pirate and makes a living killing other pilots, I have to say the CONCORD insurance thing is actually broken. If you die to station/gate guns in lowsec or CONCORD in highsec it is because you did something criminal and should not get insurance.
Of course until that is fixed I will fully use it to my advantage under any and all circumstances.

The last time I bought anything expensive from jita the corp provided 2 new players with badgers and cargo containers called (Dread Guristas Control Tower for example) after they undocked (and died), I followed in my transport and warped out (to a undock ss) through a sea of concord. Just assume jita is going to cost someone a ship and you can usually get through it. ------------------------- How do I set my laser printer to stun? |

Maybe for you. Not sure if the container name showed up on the scan (I've never bothered to try), even if it didn't/doesn't, the new guys got popped, and the goods got out.
Edit: This is over a year ago - new mechanics may make this less useful, again, haven't tried recently. But it has worked for me before ------------------------- How do I set my laser printer to stun? |

Posting unsubstantiated year+ old advice is great help by the way. You would be better off telling him he can't fit a 100mn mwd to his sleipner :(
