I am a 2 year eve player. I have always enjoyed the game. Even tough I am 2 years old, their are still things in the game that I have never experienced. Call me ignorant or whatever. I have been to low and null sec. I have been to wormholes, I have mined, explored, and even been in wars. One thing I have never done is placed a pos. I have read about them, studied them, and even memorized the average cost to fuel them. I decided to start placing them so I could generate some income for plex. I studied up and found a few complex reactions to run and the perfect place to put it up. I Was running low on isk, so I purchased a gtc, sold it and made around 550 million isk. Log into the game. Did the things I needed to do to prepare to set up my first tower. Location, fuel, guns etc. Went to jita to pick up a large tower, 2 silos, and an ecm to go with the other items I have.(the plan is to move my stuff to Nour and wait a few days to organize a group to help me out.) I have been in low sec before and I am aware of what precautions to take. Anyways, as I undocked from Jita in my badger I was ganked and lost over 400million in cargo. YAY!! This has never happened to me. I figured a badger in high sec was safe. Just thought id share this with anyone that has a false sense of security in high sec. Any thoughts or comments would be nice. Flysafe and not blind. laters

And that's where you figured wrong. How did you play for 2 years and never hear of suicide gankers?

Within time everyone realizes that high sec is safer, not safe. Some just learn the hard way.

I guess I am not sure why it should be safe? If it was "safe" CCP would not have concord/gate and station guns.
Non-Consenual PVP is everywhere...and I welcome it ___________________

Yeah I've always detested station campers. The only thing you can do is check to see if the coast is clear, if not log dock back in as fast as you can. But yeah high sec you don't have to worry as much but you still have to be slightly paranoid.

If it were safe your weapons would be disabled upon entering a high sec system. That is the only way you'll ever make it safe.
Safer means that you can still take steps not to get blown up, which you did not take.

Your first mistake was going to Jita. Your second mistake was using a T1 industrial to transport 400mil worth of stuff. Your third was undocking.
How to avoid this from happening again: - 1. Avoid Jita like the plague - there's plenty of other trade systems in EVE that aren't camped anywhere near as bad. 2. Train for transports or freighters so you can take advantage of their resists/sheer buffer which should hopefully tide you till CONCORD arrive if you get ganked.

Two side notes on this specific case:
1) Insta undocks - make them. Straight out from the station undock point, far enough to be offgrid, then a random distance beyond. In popular systems, a random distance far beyond. I think in Jita I'd go at least 1500 km out. Then you come out of the station, warp to your BM, then warp off where you're going. The idea in a case like this is to leave before they get a chance to scan you to see if you're worth ganking; they aren't going to waste ships on speculation. You can insta undock in Jita to the moon, I believe, but if gankers are present there might be some hanging out there as well.
2) You do realize the towers can be purchased elsewhere, right? All racial towers are typically purchased at the seeding stations and moved by players to the major trade hubs for convenience purchasing. You'll pay about 10 million more to buy a tower in Jita than at the source. Plus, if it's a Caldari tower, you don't have to go far to find a source: Sukuuvesta(sp.?) factory stations. You'll have a slightly farther trip to go if you want an Amarr, Gallente, or Minmatar tower. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

That statement reminds me of people who spend a lot of money to live in gated communities or expensive neighborhoods, and then, thinking they are not necessary, support laws to take guns away from good people who would be defenseless. This is why I laugh when I hear of people in such supposedly nice places get robbed or worse, and they are on the news saying things "I had no idea this would happen".
As for playing for two years and not knowing about suicide ganking.....
I once tried to warn some 0.5 miners that their system was on a gank consideration list and NONE of them knew what suicide ganking was or even considered that it could happen to them.
Made me want to gank them myself just to learn them a lesson.

I understand that not knowing something makes me ignorant. I have know about suicide ganking for some time. I just didnt realize the extent of it. Meaning, I guess, I assumed that it was more like a gang bang on miners or something to that affect. Its never happend to me, and I definatly did not think that it would happen out side of jita. I mean after all, two years without an incident like this can give one a "false sense of security" Yes, that kinda makes me like thos rich folks that act all shocked when it does happen. However it was a wake up call that has redefined my game play. I am not at all complaining. I am simply sharing an event that happend to me. Hopefully others that have no idea will now know and play smarter.

It must really suck when someone puts 400 million - A PLEX - in an untanked Badger then you kill him and get nothing.

Edited by: Barakkus on 06/12/2009 02:20:08 I'm curious about what ship ganked you fast enough to destroy you before concorded.
Can we see the kill mail? (just remove the person's name that ganked you so they don't nerf the post)

as far as removing the gankers name.. I am sure he is proud and would probably post the same kill mail in local to gloat.

Seriously, though. I agree with Mok...suicide gankers should definitely suffer more of a loss for the attempt. Currently, you're out pocket change thanks to insurance.

You can buy a Raven in Jita now for 70- 75 million. With 100% insurance at 30 million totaling 100-105 million. Insurance pay out is over 108 million. I got bored the other day and made over 10 million buying/insuring/self destruct/salvage.

Just a real wild guess here. I might be wrong, but I think that you got popped because you were undocking from Jita with 400m in cargo in a T1 transport.
If it drops then you make a huge chunk of change even losing an uninsured ship.

To be fair Jita isn't the problem you can go in and out if you do it smart, don't expect to make it out with million/billions of goods in a slow/weak ship you won't and if you do congratulations next time you will be gotten.
I don't know what the OP could think of the 50+ ships, half with pirate skulls and running disco lights outside the station, also assuming no one was being killed on his way in meant when you docked there?
Glad you learned from this as many people break down, especially if they spent money to buy a plex, sold it then bascially lost it all.
Personally I'll never understand why everyone sells at the same station, there are what 5 other stations in Jita and virtually none of the others have the 'gang' hanging outside of them. It isn't like someone going to Jita is going to be like 'Oh damn they aren't selling those items I want on the station where they run a train on you as you leave, well I'm not going to go to the other station in system that doesn't have 50 ships waiting to kill me, what's the point.'
