If you haven't seen this year's attempt to prevent X Factor blandness taking the No1 slot on Dec 20th head over to Rage Factor! A similar campaign last year managed to get Rick Astley to number 2 so surely a good song has a better chance this time around.

Last year the number one was 570,000 sales or so - whether thats a realistic target to beat I don't know. But to be honest the prospect of giving a great big STFU to Cowell fills my soul with glad tidings

You obviously didn't actually look at the page before "correcting" me. That FB group I was talking about has increased by approx 13k in one hour. Therefore, it is increasing by 3 members a second.
Also, as someone has pointed out, to get to No. 1 for Christmas based upon previous sales you need about half a million. So, whilst it needs one hell of an effort to manage it it's not the "millions" that you quote.
Word of advice, if you're going to act all high and mighty it might be prudent to check your facts first.

Have you ever heard of hyperbole? My point is still moot. This will fail, although I would love to see it win. I joined the Facebook group myself a few days ago when I first heard the news and I'll be buying the track after the 12th to make sure I've done my bit. However, the hype from X-Factor and the number of people who buy it's ****e music will outnumber those who want to see something else win the Christmas No 1.

I was employing sarcasm and hyperbole. Not sarcasm towards you or your post, but towards the aforementioned schoolgirl types who buy that crap.
Currently the Facebook group has 278,900 members (exactly). Even if all of them buy the RATM song, that's still not enough to get it to No 1. We need, as someone mentioned previously, at least 500,000 to be in with a chance.

RAtM is the exact opposite of X-Factor, that's why. If you put X-Factor through a logical NOT operator, the result is Rage Against the Machine. Sig removed, inappropriate content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Shamelessly copy and pasted from Mark Steele's latest column:
There is still hope for the planet. The odds are against us but we have 10 days left to save the world and stop X Factor from creating another putrid Christmas number one.
Because these people are not only trying to destroy music, they're trying to make us surrender to their unstoppable naked power. We watch them package an act until their entire identity has been moulded into a corporate Cowellite auto-crooner, then let them sell the resulting warble back to us as if it's in some way natural. It's like falling for the three-card trick but when the cards are face up. We're going "Is that one the Queen?" and need someone to scream "No it's THIS one you dozy morons, that's the three of clubs û you can SEE."
All that makes music powerful is systematically removed by the X Factor process. Anything dirty, painful, eccentric, scary, in other words individual, is scrubbed away, so if Janis Joplin or Kurt Cobain or Eminem had ever applied, they'd have been chortled off in the first audition.
Instead everyone's made to look a mild variant of the same, so someone could ask to sing "Strange Fruit", the Billie Holliday song about a lynching, and they'd end up doing it as a jolly ballad with 20 dancers doing twirls while dressed in hoods, then bounding up some glittery stairs where a noose would be hanging.
The contestants are asked to strive for the sort of perfection displayed by Janet Jackson on Saturday's show, in which every jerk and twizzle of her and her 8,000 dancers was choreographed with tedious mathematical precision as she span about in one of those microphones that make performers look like they're working in a call centre, and seeing as she was presumably miming she must have been wearing it so she could do a bit of extra work for British Telecom while she was on.
So while we hear her yelp "Oo ya ya yoo," what she's saying is "Your broadband should be reconnected by 6.30 this evening." All spontaneity and expression was meticulously flushed out and the result was a soulless mess that left me thinking I'd rather be watching her brother, and I don't mean as he was but as he is now, just tipped on to the stage.
But it's not just the songs. The whole soap opera element is carefully planned, so stories emerge that this week Olly had to battle on with extraordinary courage following the death of his favourite tadpole, or Lucie has had to overcome the childhood trauma of being exorcised after being taken over by demons. But the worst part is it's addictive. A three-minute glance and you can't help following it for the rest of the series; it's more dangerous than crack.
Maybe this is because some of the performers do have a passion and individuality, that survives despite the fact that progressing depends on keeping it suppressed. Stacey, for example, is brilliant because she looks as if she's said "Here Simon, can I go on first otherwise I'll miss the District Line back to Dagenham." But if she ever wants to write her own songs or do something dark she'll run up against the business plan being built for her. Whoever wins will be like the great blues singer Robert Johnson, they'll have to sell their soul. Except at least he sold his to the devil, who does have the best tunes. In X Factor you have to sell it to Simon bloody Cowell.

...continued:
The plan is that next week a single will be released, in which the winner sings a Miley Cyrus song, which they may or may not feel applies to them but it's been decided, and that will become the Christmas number one, and it will be on all the time, in cafes and taxis and shopping centres and they'll find a way of downloading it into your dreams. But there is hope. A campaign has been launched by fans of the iconic anti-capitalist band from the Nineties, Rage Against the Machine, to make their glorious volcanic anthem "Killing in the Name Of" number one instead.
Already the bookies are making it favourite to be X Factor's main challenger, so what an end this could be to a decade. We might be facing indefinite Etonian rule, and ceaseless unwinnable conflicts that would beat the Hundred Years War except the planet will have disintegrated by then, but we can beat them on this. So buy the single between the 13th and the 19th. And if it works, next year in the X Factor final there'll be a double act called Fit '*Wicked singing a romantic version of "Killing in the Name Of", while 60 dancers descend on ropes setting fire to a banker's bonus.
Dulce et decorum est pro imperium mori.

hmv et. al will "magically" run out of hard copies of RATM. they are reportedly trying to get single in stock but arent having much in terms of supply/demand.

also check the rules. . . if he doesnt win you can guarantee that he will most likely ask for ratm to be excluded from the charts due to a breach in the regulations.

The Agenda is what makes RATM great, and the lyrics of Killing in the Name are still relevant today. It's ageing better than a lot of punk.

I love how in the above article Cowell tries to say he did us a favour by taking over the christmas number 1 slot with a bunch of overproduced, bland and souless covers. Newsflash simon, you might not be having this right now if you'd let your robots sing some origional material rather than whatever your marketing department decided was most appealing to the teen steroetypes they have as your core viewers.

simon cowell's company is syco records which is part of columbia and sony bmg, so he now works for sony bmg.
ratm are on epic which is the premier subsidiary label of sony music entertainment.
sony/simon cowell dont give a **** if x factor or ratm is number 1, they are raking in the cash

Not... quite.
You see, RATM's record label is Epic Records, whose parent company is Sony Music Entertainment... and Joe McElderry is also signed to Sony. So in actual matter of fact, this isn't much of a spit in the face of the music industry, because SME made an enormous amount of money this week because of the chart battle.
It is, however, a long-overdue kick in the 'nads for the X-Factor and for Simon Cowell. I can't stand the sickly-sweet trash that show spoon-feeds onto the airwaves every year. I was glued to my car radio during the countdown and went completely apesh** when the result was announced.
So, sure, celebrate... but don't let's get carried away and call this a victory over the whole music industry. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

Does this mean RATM is going to be on crimbo compilations from now on?
Bored of the tune due to covering it in various bands, and on nights out, still, better than cowells pedo jingles

Why do people keep on going on about how much money Sony has made from this? I doubt they made that much to be honest. 500k sales at avg 40p a sale. Take the sony cut from that. Well you can do the maths. I wouldnt say no to the money but to SONY its not much. And respect to RATM for donating the money they made from this to a homeless charity.

Also just to point out that the groups organisers for the facebook campaign, have stated many times its not an attack on Simon Cowell or about the sony label, or about the money, its about keeping x factor off the top spot , since it seems to have a god given right to a xmas number one each year due to ITV putting the x factor on 12 weeks up until the xmas number 1 week, and then releasing the winner's single.

Well even though Simon thinks that the whole campaign is "cynical"(like he is not 99% of the time lol) I am quite certain that he is biting his lip over this whole event. [i]The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is it's last day on Earth. But I think that's a luxury, not a curse. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom. Go |

Have Epic Records confirmed this or is it just RATM's cut which is going to charity? Because the latter will be in the 1% region.

Am i the only one who can't see the point in this?
It's not even a good troll attempt. Remember when Rick Astley won an MTV Music Video Award back in '07 or so? Scripts was thrown around the internet, and people voted thousands of times each on him. Good fun.
