Yes let everything warp cloaked. If it has issues give it cloak. We could instantly fix deimos, blasters or motherships this way.

Originally by: Deva Blackfire I would say that Keres, Hyena and Sentinel needs longer range on their ewar (that is: scrams, webs, neuts). Keres is crap compared to tackle ceptors, Hyena is decent but operates waaaay to close (and in heavy neut range), sentinels 18km (or so) on neuts is just too short. You dont even use full t2 disruptor range so even stupid tackle ceptor can orbit and kill you given time.
18km is out of range of most webs and scrams so your fairly safe and the sentinel eats cepters alive.

Edited by: Davina Braben on 18/12/2009 03:04:24 Well after a bit of experimentation today I think the Hyena has some use as tackle.
What it does over and above a tackle ceptor is quickly slap the equivalent of a 90% web on something which is quite nice.
It locks about a second slower than my tackle ceptor, moves about half the speed, has 1k more EHP but as I say I don't think anything else is as quick at stopping a cruiser burning back to gate.

I've had some success flying the Sentinel in a solo roam fit. It's just horribly hard to find something you can kill, but the upshot is that people tend to chase YOU because they believe you are flimsy. I've killed Kestrels, Jags, Wolves and Harpies with it, but it takes bloody forever, so be sure they don't have friends.
In short, the Sentinel is in every way comparable to the Pilgrim, just without the cloak and on a smaller scale. You have to be VERY picky about target selection and if anything catches you, you're mostly dead.
It's a shiny addition to any frigate gang though. TDs and neuts are a deadly combination. Just try to stay out of immediate "wtfpwn frig" range, and if you get drones on you, try to pop them with your own, but if you are tackled, burn out of range and get away. It can't tank much. ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog Personal Killboard |

I like the kitsune. It's major weakness is that it's in competition with better ewar ships, and so ... well, is only really suitable on a gang you couldn't bring a falcon on.
However, fit it like: [Kitsune, MWD/SML/T2rigs] Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Signal Amplifier II
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters 'Umbra' I White Noise ECM BZ-5 Neutralizing Spatial Destabilizer ECM 'Hypnos' Ion Field ECM I Enfeebling Phase Inversion ECM I
Standard Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Sabretooth Light Missile Standard Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Sabretooth Light Missile Standard Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Sabretooth Light Missile
Small Particle Dispersion Augmentor I Small Ionic Field Projector I
You have 4x str 10 jammers, and ability to use 'em at 85km. You can zip around at 2500m/sec, and keep doing that for 5 minutes or so. It's hard to run down - because anything fast enough to pursue you, you've got good odds on jamming - and can operate at enough range that it's got some life expectancy.
Just bear in mind - it is a frigate.

The problem is that an EAS runs about 17-20m, while a blackbird runs 6m. And when it comes right down to it, the blackbird isn't less effective, and you can insure it when it dies.
If they cost 5m then you'd likely see a lot more of them.

The sentinel is perfectly fine, but suffers from the same thing all the other EAFs do - they are too fragile. Considering how much stronger their cruiser brothers are its rare to see them except in inti gangs and occasionally in FW.

Different tool for a different job. A BB accelerates slower, and can't run around with the MWD hot for quite the same amount of time. It also doesn't have the 'lol I are frigate' protection when running away from a gate on jumpin. Now it's true, I'd usually tend to prefer a Falcon, but don't underestimate how useful it is to be able to get 60km away from the fight at 3km/sec (overheat MWD) and stay there can be - BBs get run down, Kitsunes don't.

Exactly, this is it's only real use outside a bomber gang. You can get mean scan res out of it... even AFs won't reapproach in time. Only problem is the web range kinda blows so you have to overload a lot.

Seems like these ships need a major boost to their e-war capabilities.
Then they would be like the e-war equivalent of stealth bombers.

Practical effect? Just harder to jam and faster to lock, right?
Quote: It goes twice as fast and aligns faster then both.
Does it really go twice as fast if both have MWD? More importantly, does the speed tank have a substantial damage-depleting effect?
Quote: It's sensor strength is higher then a blackbird's so it's harder to jam.
Duplicative advantage.
Quote: It has an optimal bonus that the falcon and rook don't - it's stronger then them between 80 and 100km range.
Is that rigth??? I'll have to check that again - I wasn't aware thaat Kitsune had better range than Blackbird (I'm talking BB here, not Falcon/Rook)
Quote: It's 30 million price tag is more then the BB's 9 million - but all of the above make it worthy of consideration.
Slight lock speed increase + minor speed increase, at cost of less jammers and no offense at all? For 3 times the cost? I'm not sold. I think Kitsune needs more.
Quote: If you want a specific niche fit two caldari racial jammers and get the drop on other ECM boats in the battle. You'll get the first strike with your kitsune.
Excellent role for the Kitsune - hadn't even considered it. An anti-ECM platform. Given its survivability (low) I'm not sure how effective it woudl be, adn given its cost I'm not sure its better than a BB with 4 Caldari jammers, better tank, etc., but an interesting concetp nonetheless.

Clearly, the EAF could use some additional support, to make it a more legitimate choice to bring comapred to the almost-always-better-choice Interceptor. In almost any mixed enagement, the EAF is woefully inadequate in protecting itself from insta-primary and insta-death. It i sdesigned to operate as an E-War equivalent to the Inty, and should share a similar "difficulty-to-hit" bonus, to make it more survivable, and to bring back some of the variabillity of tactics the variosu E-War nerfs have eroded over time.
So please feel free to express support, or condemnation if you prefer, for the suggested improvment in the link above (in the Suggetion Forum).
Thank you.

You can pry my kitsune from my cold, dead hands. Sure - the Blackbird has more tank and can go longer ranges and is a LOT cheaper, but the kitsune is more maneuverable and, most importantly, more FUN to fly. Recent circumstances have kept out of flying with gangs recently (I'm never around when they are, Grrr), but past experience has shown that a single kitsune in a gang can drastically increase what you can engage and reduce losses.
It also makes ransoming a lot easier, since you can FORCE them to stop shooting which gives you more time to make your demands.
I use two targeting range rigs on mine. Named MWD plus 4 meta-4 racials, two 'hypnos' amps in the lows. 70km optimal, nice and fast, good strength. Also have a standard missile launcher and a salvager in the highs for fun.
It would be nice if these things had a bit of a buff to justify the price tag - or a reduction in price. As others have mentioned, a signature radius reduction would be super. Would also be nice to have a touch more of a bonus for the respective ewar platforms. Not a ton more - just a bit extra. For example, it would be nice if the Sentinel could reach 20km with neuts.
Or, reduce the cost. 15-20m for such a specialized, paper thin ship is a bit too much. I would love to see these in the 10-15m range instead.
I've had EAS at 4 for a while, but currently getting it up to 5. When I do, I'll be skilling up so that I can fly a Sentinel, too. I've had my eye on that ship for quite some time now and would love to give it a go.
Hyena seems like it would be a great choice for null-sec gate camping in a gang, but that's just me theorizing and talking out of my ass again.

I love my Scorpion. My corp mates love that I love it too.
"You have really disgustingly long range in that."
"They're not shooting at us at all!"
It's cheap, and I consider it disposable, but I've not been locked yet.
Ships like the Kitsune really need to be numerous to compare, and they are not as sturdy.
What's your fit?

FWIW I got completely killed by a Sentinel while in my Stabber. Granted I've only been playing for a few weeks, wasn't expecting to get attacked in 0.4 space (expensive mistake) and he had a few friends helping but the Sentinel did most of the work.
Scrammed me and killed my capacitor, orbiting at about 13km - just outside my AC range, to say nothing of any tracking issues I was having.
I walked away with a respect for the ship.

They do see some usage here and there, but are very limited.
Hyena is good with an SB squad and can tackle, but doesn't have an interceptor speed or mwd sig bonus so it tends to pop very quickly.
Sentinel can roast many frigs with ease solo, but are little benefit in a gang other than, maybe, an inty killer.
Kitsune... may as well fit 3 blackbirds out for the same price.
I've never seen a Keres out and about.
In a way, they suffer from the same problem as assault frigs. Too expensive and no insurance makes them a waste of isk. When there are T1 frigs and cruisers that can perform the task neary as good, or better in some cases, for a fraction of the cost.... what's the point? |

We already have the Recon ships. Honestly, it would be better if the EAFs were simply 50-70% cheaper than at present.
EDIT: Incidentally, I came up with a use for the Keres: As a bomber tackler. Inties have too short a lockrange, and the long range tackle is nice also. 1980 scan res with gang bonuses, 3Km/s which is easily enough to get out of bomb AoE:
[Keres, bomberkiller] Signal Amplifier II Damage Control II Power Diagnostic System II
Warp Disruptor II Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution 1MN MicroWarpdrive I Explosion Dampening Field II (Change hardener to match opponents preferred bomb flavour in case you get clipped by one)

Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

I've tried all four flavors of EW frigs and the only one worthy to do anything solo is the Sentinel, and then only against cap intensive ships like taranis. Proj or missile boats are deadly to it.
All of the others are ace gang ships except perhaps the Hyena since the castration of webs. As the Ares and Keres have identical scram ranges it's usually better to use the 'ceptor.

I've actually had a solo pirate in a Keres trying to ransom my raven. He basically orbited out of my targeting range, I even got lucky and got warrior 2s on him. I called in a friend in a raven and he got another set of warrior 2s on him, he had enough staying power to stay another minute and warp away.
