Edited by: LLeBRing on 17/11/2004 06:38:13 tell your governments to not have that stupid VAT. Problem solved.
BTW having just come out of its (by all accounts) extremely mild recession, who is to say that you won't be singing and us crying in due time?
It's economics, turns on a dime, you cry, we cry later, we cried before, you cry now.
Big deal, try and get over it.

GAWD I would hate to be CCP right now. First they get taxed then the dollar takes a dive. Then you guys f@#cking whine about your gaming costs. You whiney little ****@s (those of you that are whining about this). If I was a CCP DEV and I read this I would make a secret alt corp and pod your a$$ out of existence. Your closer to the servers think of it as a price for less lag. /me holds up both fingers to state you are number 11. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

Originally by: Thain It is true that we rarely get involved unless we have vested interest, which is why we aren't involved in most African problems, for example, what's happening in Sudan. Then again, neither does any other country.
Uuuuh, hate to go off on another off-topic subject here, but just a small point before this political nonsense is put to bed. Europe has generally been much more active in Africa than the US, mostly due to old colonial entanglements. For the last few weeks the French have been fighting in the Ivory Coast. About a year ago combined French paratroopers and Swedish special forces saw relatively heavy combat in Kongo. And so on and so forth...

Originally by: Taja Feyd Hey Aelius, you must live in one of these countries: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal or Finland. If you don't want to pay in euros try moving to a country that still has its old national currency (such as Sweden.. smart people live there - for info check their latest referendum) or try switching continents. If that doesn't please you, you could try creating some kind of political movement to remove the euro as the currency in your country (though this solution would take you quite a few decades).
Oh, here's another one. Try shuting the up! Don't want to pay in euros, quit the game.
hey misinformed! i live in sweden and have to pay in euros too :P
i'm guessing ccp will change their pricing to reflect the changes at least once/year. -------------------------------------------

Again for the economically challenged, WE'RE NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TAX, WE'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DOUBLE STANDARD OF HAVING TWO DIFFERENT CURRENCIES!
CCP is the only developer I am aware of (tho I may be wrong) that has this backwards method of billing.
Originally by: seeyouauntie Well... I think it works out fine.
People in the US get paid in US dollars, and pay to play in US dollars. Players in Europe get paid in euros, and pay to play in euros. Either way, you're out the same amount in your local currency.
Actually, I get paid in pounds :p

Originally by: S'Daria The U.S. dollar is being depreciated comapred to the Euro and thus its cheaper for Americans to buy foreign products.
So if the US dollar is worth 1 Euro and you buy a 100 Euros worth of goods, how much do you pay in US dollars?
Now if the US dollar is worth .5 Euro and you buy that same 100 Euros worth of goods, how much do you pay?
A falling dollar makes it more expensive for an American to buy foreign products as compared to the same product before the dollar fell.
But yah, lets all pay the same currency. Just charge 14 bux Euro across the board. For now it means the Americans will be paying out the nose (or Canadians, or Australians, or, etc) but when the US dollar rises again (which it will) things will sort themselves out.

I think Aelius is absolutely right. No i wouldn't complain if US would pay more than EU residents but i would also say that the are absolutely right if they complain about it!
And no, its CCP's fault, they make the fees! Other online service e.g. do their business only in dollars. depending on the daily exchange rate you have to pay more or less as an member of the EU. But this way all will pay the same! At least Credit Card users should get the opportunity to pay in Dollar like US residents ! My Credit Card was often charged in dollars with an actual exchange rate! This topic with VAT etc. is pointless !
And i think the mein reason for them to do it...they make more money this way....
CCP any Comment on that ? Don't ask "can i have your stuff" because i'll give it to everybody else than you! |

Edited by: Samuel Pufendorf on 17/11/2004 09:54:23 Personally I think this thread is a waste of time.
If CCP should take all the aspects into account, they had to hire one guy, just to figure that crap out, plus they will never get it right, unless ALL the countries in the world use the same systems (And they never will btw)... In top of this, there are things that CCP cannot control.. VAT... If CCP costs the price just for the EU.. then they will have a problem, because they will properly loose money on that... Taxes go into the goverments bank account NOT CCP...(Tell the goverments to reduce the VAT instead of complaining over CCP).. Thus they are NOT making more money off that... They are infact getting less money from the USA, because of the low dollar (If they run their accounting in Euros)..
So... mouth please --------- What are you looking at ? |

Not true.
Only the people paying in their native currency would "all pay the same". If the Europeans were forced to pay for Eve in US dollars, sure they would always pay 14 USD, but the actual amount coming out of my bank account would different each and every time. Vice versa for the Americans paying in Euros.
Regardless, I too wish CCP would pick a single currency.

Edited by: Iratus Caelestis on 17/11/2004 10:13:20 It's not really an issue for us in the UK, we earn slightly more than people in the US (admittedly with higher living costs) so it works out ok for us, kinda sucks for a lot of countries in Europe though.
