I guess it could help if you posted what you mean with "ramifications of system scanning ect..." to get the brainstorming started.

Person gets a kill mission in 0.4 or below space, ebil pirate has a system scanner, ebil pirate jumps to person doing mission, person doing mission dies.
Am not sure how this is going to work, unless the missions, now they are randomly placed, are outside the system's boundaries or in deadspace or something.
I think it is a "lets see how the system works once the creases are ironed out and it's live"

Well maybe it's time to scale mission income with the lower security ratings?
Afaik the only difference atm is that 0.4 has higher chance of commanders in gone berserk than 1.0. 0.0 pirate faction is a bit difference, a roughly estimate would be that atm rewards are 20% higher than their empire counter parts.
Reward + Bonus should take the agents home systems + mission locations system security rating into account. Higher risk = higher reward.
Zrakor, could you enlighten us on how it works atm? and what you're planning todo? |

To A. Guinness.
I always thought that loot drops in lower security systems were better. Meaning that rats being killed ther used different loot tables than in secure space. And that this was one of the significant differences.
Of course I could be wrong, I thought I had read it somewhere when I just started playing eve. This was a long time ago so my memory fails me.....
One could do a study and compare overal value of loot drops of mission rats from a hundred missions in secure space and from a hundred missions in 0.4 and lower. Then we would know for sure.....

I've heard rumours about that from players.
But i experienced 0.0 mission loot and 0.8 mission loot to be the exact same. And no, no player study will make answer that question. Loot is way too random, you'd need 10k rats or so to gain any significant data. |

I can backup Arthur's statement. I do missions in 0.0 and the loot, in general, seems to be pretty much the same as I'd get from doing missions in high sec space.
The only real difference is that in 0.0, we don't get bounties on kills for most of our missions.

Well it was "kinda" on topic, I mean with the increased chances of being ganked+podded due to system scanning when doing missions in low sec, would the missions yield higher rewards in lower sec space? that's a ramification to think about non? :)

Do bear in mind that:
i) Any would-be pirate would have to be reasonably skilled at system scanning.
ii) Know roughly what area of the system your in, to have a good chance of tracking you down.
iii) Deploying and scanning does take time, so it wont be as if a pirate would be able to insta-warp to you.
iv) There's a certain amount of deviation with scans who its quite possible if a pirate does warp in, they wont be within warp scrambling range.

Amin has four very valid points but ignores the obvious one:
Pirates don't need system scans to tank the ****-poor .4 sentries and gank you on the way out.
So where was the lamentable change again?

Well, they can do that right now without Shiva system scanners.
I don't think its that big of a deal. Putting players running missions into some kind of "invulerability field" would be kinda silly. If you're running missions in low security space, or accept a mission that has you going into low security space, you need to recognize that PC gankfests are a possibility.

well nobody disagrees with there being a need for risk in low sec empire and in 0.0. There is risk in low sec empire and in 0.0.
But the reward for that risk is not there. |

Of course JP i make an assumption (perhaps unfairly), that pilots will take the usual precautions when traveling in unsecure space:
* Check map for possible signs of a blockade (# of pilots in space, number of ship kills etc) * Always check local for possible hostiles * Maybe even use insta-bm <shudder>
With a bit of alertness you can quite easily avoid being ganked. Unless of course you want to do missions in a semi-afk mode, in which case its probably best to stay in safer space.

Agree 100%, i dont mind going into lower sec space as long as there's more of an incentive, be it higher LP, better kill mission spawns and better rewards.
