Enough common sense to not compare a video game to the holocaust?
But then, religious nutters will always be strange, hypocritical and certifiably insane.
shame on me for expecting an actual debate.

The rage is hilarious but the fact she's a female blogger seems irrelevant. Some people--regardless of gender--just don't "get" EVE.

What's not to get though? Unless of course said person's been playing games like WoW and is sitting here in EVE keeping that same "theme-park"-happy-go-lucky mindset.

Edited by: Wayward Daughter on 27/12/2009 22:34:31 I love this bit:
Quote: The Sisters of Embracement, women dedicated to living our respective faiths deeply and devotedly being a living example of love, peace, and harmony to all the world. Our Sisters are dedicated to love, honor and respect all life and all people ù regardless of their religious or non-religious practices. Our mission is to bring together in harmony those faiths that have a belief in An All-Enlightened Being/God or Truth. To show by our love and actions that This Being/God is The Motivating Force of our lives, our love, and our altruism.
1. Their responses are contradictory. 2. These people do not belong in EVE.

Heli, you are totally gonna get pwned by Jesus. The nuns are gonna call down the wrath of Tanka Shila ****en Tanken on you.
WTF is a Tanka Shila ****en Tanken? I think did that once after drinking too much vodka. And my groin was sore for weeks.

I love EVE. Not so much for flying around in big space ships, player driven economy and meaningful PVP, although that's cool. What I really love is that the system is open enough that there are actually consequences for your actions in both directions. Keep up the good work. Fewer macro miners means more bandwidth for the rest of us.

Edited by: Omgah on 28/12/2009 07:41:37 You should on hit on her Helicity. You got nothing to lose might as well go for it. I mean sure she claims shes a nun. But did you ever see that Client Eastwood movie were the nun was actually a prostitute. You could be missing out on serious action here man. Two Mules for Sister Sara I think it was.

The best bit is the section on the about page where they say, "Our Sisters are dedicated to love, honor and respect all life and all people..."
I suppose that their whole-sale marching of those response posts to the gas chamber is how they show that respect, honor and love. Internet forum post bits and bytes should have the same respect and protection that internet spaceship bits and bytes receive.
I'm pretty sure she's a troll and has no idea.

shame on me for expecting an actual debate.
How can you expect an actual debate with the single-minded condescending view that participants in events like these often show?
Assuming someone is a religious nutter, and certifiable insane usually doesn't result in a constructive debate. Try broadening your view a bit.
In defense of using Godwin's law in this context, Id say when people claim to actually feed and get sustenance from other people's pain, this is one of the few cases where It's close to being relevant to make the connection to a certain 1930's German political movement.
Who are certifiable insane? The ones who claim to find joy in pain, or the ones who cry about it?
Lack of 'emo' is traditionally considered a pretty good indication of insanity.
Internet pixel space ships it may be, but its still real people. Hiding behind the anonymity of the internet doesn't change that. You learned that you can consistently provoke human emotions through mere communication. Congratulations on that discovery, now its your choice, and everyone else's choice to decide how to use that ability.

Agreed on this...
Quote: In defense of using Godwin's law in this context, Id say when people claim to actually feed and get sustenance from other people's pain, this is one of the few cases where It's close to being relevant to make the connection to a certain 1930's German political movement.
Nah. That's just in peoples minds, that made monsters of that movement. Monsters they were but of a completely different kind. The brutality of the ****s was not the one of a madman. It was an informed choice. Much much worse.
Now, hulkageddoners, pirates and griefers (3 different categories!) CLAIM they feed on pain. They don't. Some of them like to have power over others, most are just in for the fight and the bragging rights. Bragging rights are 90% of most games. EVE is not different - marketeers brag about how they moved the market, miners brag about stripping entire belts.
The entire post in that blog was totally out of hand - you might not like helicity's way of playing the game (I certainly don't), but you have to concede that when he drops the RP banter, he's reasonable. Attacking the person instead of the ideas is pretty lame, and it's very much closer to the ****s way than "hulkageddon" or whatever.
Take a step back, look at the whole picture, chill before answering. Netiquette, no?

I know they only claim to feed on pain. But if it is only a claim, why continually repeat the roleplaying event with the intention of provoking further emotional reactions? That is a mystery to me and I sometimes wonder about it.
In response to lack of humour. Yes lack of humour is also pretty insane, keep in mind though that subtle humour and irony doesnt translate well on the internet. ;) You really have to be very specific in a rather boring way to make your point. IRL its possible to be much more subtle.

Because it's fun :) Because there's ISK into it. Because people like you and me get into their ships and do something else, or are on their toes. Because the forums are flooded with scared people. In other words, to make others do what you want them to. And this is, again, bragging rights. "See how I scared those miners?" OTOH, miners will be all smartass on it too (you can see the posts) "It never happened" "didn't change a thing" "i dare you come gank ME", and so on. It's an event that glues the community.
