Thats why talking about that superb tanks Rattlesnake have and poor tank Vindi have isnt an argument. If you need ship just to be a sitting duck, who cant catch or kill anything, try dreadnought in siege near lowsec gate, he will tank even more for less price, he wont catch and kill anything either, same as your Rattlesnake setup without mwd, web, scramble etc.
Way you guys thinking, i mean Rattlesnake as a sitting tanker, no tackling mods, is a way of carebear, not any kind of pvper, cause you will kill something using yours setups only when your target will be afk. Sry but that is the truth, you need some modules that will reduce your tank, and even if you fit it, Vindi will get job done far more quicker.
First of all, grats on leaving the vindi thread, I'm hoping that this thread's appearance means you can be reasoned with, but I guess we'll see soon enough ^_^
First problem with this thread is that you're working with the assumption that tanking isn't a role, and this isn't entirely true. In nullsec (and to a far lesser extent lowsec) having more buffer/tankable dps may not be huge issue, but it really shines in small gang warfare, especially in highsec. We just decced a corp that was harassing a friend of ours, and one of the guys (after we popped his rook) hopped into a rattlesnake and started shooting at us on the station. Not only could 4 of us barely break his tank (he had plenty of time to deagress when we showed up) but when his buddy undocked in a vulture he was able to tank 2 AC maels, a pulse abaddon and a blaster hyp. If you can't find a use for a ship that can do that while still putting out respectable amounts of damage (6-700DPS+neuts or noss is still enough to kill most things) then you're not thinking hard enough.
Next; you're comparing the vindi and the rattler again, which is a problem because they're extremely different ships. Yes the vindi may be much better at killing something on a station or solo in a belt, but what about when there are a handful of ships? 4 well piloted ships in a belt will nuke most vindicators, because a t1 BS can put out about 70% of a vindi's DPS with more than half it's buffer (meaning in theory 2 tech 1 BSs would nuke a vindi, but since vindi's are usually better fit than standard BSs this doesn't tend to happen often) So yeah, the vindi may be a better choice in a 1 on 1 fight, but some people prefer fighting outnumbered, and it's much easier to do that when you can tank 4-5 other ships of the same class as you while putting out enough DPS to kill them (even if you ignore missiles, a rattler is like a neut domi, but with twice the tank)
The rattler fills a niche roll, just like most of the pirate BSs, it fills this niche quite well (and if you want crazy damage with missiles get a CNR, the DPS they put out is close to the vindi's at a fraction of the cost) |
