Lots of MWDs on a scorpion. Missiles acting as both warp disruptors and smartbombs. Kestrels being the most awesome ship, ever.

The days of yore... =)
April 05' here, after I got sick of Star Wars Galaxies...Exodus was being advertised, and I thought it looked cool as hell. =)
Ferox was everyone's favorite mission ship, sporting 5x heavy launchers. =)
Iteron V was the last word in hauling. Local Hull Expanded Cargoholds were crazy expensive.
A Cerberus was 350 mil; I remember going "oooooh!" whenever I saw one in Empire.

Still here, playing from Beta 6, i just love it
Best memory would have been the planet size rocks in the belts, were i was trapped because my ship was bouncing between the rocks forever.
Also one of my favorite was when i first met my CEO (Paul Lebaue of Freelancing Corp), as i was mining and he bumped his ship onto a can of mine and got bumped away for billions of AU's, lol. A GM had to put him into the gamegrid again else he would have been warping back to this day :)
What i miss is the snow-launcher. It was the best gift and had tons of fun with it :)

I remember Battleships only being buildable at a POS with the Large Assembly Array, which you couldn't anchor in high-sec at the time.
Yeah, this never happened. Starbases were introduced in 2005, Battleships were in at launch in 2003. Battleships have always been buildable in normal station factories, both hisec and lowsec.
What I meant was that if you wanted to build a Battleship AT a POS in High-sec (for the 25% duration bonus) you couldn't, because the Large Assembly Array was only allowed in 0.4 and below. Ofcourse you could still build them at a station |

As far as I know, I'm the oldest character still around on Eve:
Date Of Birth: 2003.05.06 10:38:00
8 minutes after the servers went up.
I was in beta. Oh, the things I've seen. My personal favourite was Raven as king of PvP before the missile nerf. Oh how fun that was.

Originally by: Demangel Hell anyone remember deploy-able mines and mine launchers? How people would flood jump gate entry points with cans and mines and junk to cause lag for people jumping in... before jump cloak protection.............!?
My main started in Jan '04, I'm a product of the first 'Power of 2' baby boom. . I remember SR, an old corpmate, regularly spamming 200 or so mines on the approach to gates before WTZ and using an alt to sit back and watching the fun.... brilliant
I still have 2 'asp' mines in one of my hangars somewhere, waiting for the day they decide they're safe to use again. Can't bring myself to refine or trash them.

Have paid my dues every month since May 2003. I fondly remember...
When the best mining ship was a Probe, then the Thorax became the uber miner, before Apoc mining took over.
Jita was nowhere - Yulai was the trade hub. (aka Yu-lag)
Techell, the one-stop bs shop.
PvP in 1.0 systems without wardec.
Rat spawns at jumpgates in lowsec.
Flying at over 20km/sec with stacked mwd's.
Elation at surviving a Concord gank solo.
When rats used to respawn incessantly - you could sit at a belt all day in 0.0 and farm them.
Superhighways FTW - bring them back pls!
Praying that your ship would jump through the gate before a hostile showed up.
Yes the game is more balanced now, but somehow its lost the magic of discovering something bizarre that tipped the game in your favour. Think it had more character then.

I've played EVE since febuary 2008. Not long, I admit, and I've done so on 3 different characters, but I remember some funny stuff.
-Tranquility Graphics -My first ever cruiser, a thorax fitted with small rails, civilian mods and hobgoblin I's. -Seeing a myrmidon outside station is all it's glory and having a new ambition. -Faction warfare. -Annoying same-same nano PvP -Quantum Rise -Me and my buddy becoming '1337 PvPers' by putting scrams on our mission ships (only to be owned by an arbiter) -Learning exploration in the crappy days. -Being overjoyed at the new exploration after Apocrytha. -Dust 514 announcement
-Dominion
It's been a wild 20 months

Started in late 2004, still in Castor, was a blast from playing X-Tension before and got me hooked immediatly.
Saw mining "old school" with plenty of Cruisers and BS, those giant Industrials, me in a frig zipping around in that op and getting my first mil faster then i could look (wish there where still some, was a magnificent view)
Losing my first ship to an NPC, later to Corpmates.
Good old times.

I have been around since shortly after beta, pretty much non stop. Just about 6 and a half years now. I made this character with really bad attributes before I knew what they were all about and was so deep into it by the time I did know, I didn't reroll. Oh well. Lots of ups and downs along the way for sure.

I remember getting aggro and concorded from torp splash damage the week after splash damage was removed.
and guess what "the logs showed nothing"
and back then losing a mega (fitted with torps and tachyons ) was a big loss.

From beta I remember flying without autopilot and without map. You could get lost. Some people started a profession as map makers.
Then came the ingame map and a short while later autopilot. You had to type something like /autopilot: on
Many modules such as armor repairers, afterburner or mwd were only available in one size. As far as I remember the Punisher was the only frigate being able to fit a mwd (without being able to fit weapons).
My first time after eve went gold I spend in my beloved Bestower doing some mineral trade. Four stacked quad lif afterburner in this beast. A really fast ship.
Of course there was no warp to zero but when you came out of warp and you had the right timing to hit approach gate you reached the gate within a second. With bad timing you could miss the gate by some hundred thousend kilometers, though.
Gate to gate jumping was introduced later. In the beginning the gate was only used for depature but not for arrival. When you jumped into another system you dropped at a 'random' place which unfortunately very often was just somewhere on top of a station where you got stuck. Docking and redocking at stations where your ship got stuck was a part of travelling.
Armor tanking was not an alternative option for tanking. There were no active armor hardeners. Active shield hardeners had a resistance of 70% as far as I remember, without stacking penalty. The Scorpion became invulnerable. Medium sized shield hardeners were the best things available. And so I was ratting Sansha spawns (the really big ones had a rat with 50k bounty) in Jk-Fix (Querious) with my Armegeddon fitted with a medium sized CL5 shield booster. Chain killing made you incredible rich. One full weekend and you could earn like 30m. This was an incredible large amount of isk which the vast majority could not earn in a full month.
Later CCP introduced medium and large armor repairers but also large and XL shield boosters. The Apocalypse became the best shield tanker because of 7 stacked capacitor power relays without shield boost penalty.
In beta you had a visional warning for individual incoming missiles. You could target and destroy those missiles. Later a smartbomb was a viable option to reduce missile damage if you had the right timing. Using several smartbombs made you invulnerable against missile attacks.
Missile impacts were shaking your ship. Raven pilots didn't need a warpscrambler because their missiles often prevented the hostile ship to align for warp. After the Raven killed your ship your pod often died due to the missiles explosion radius a second later.
There was no such thing as signature radius. Battleship guns hit frigates with full damage. Targetting was really fast. First the sig radius was introcued to give smaller ships some time to escape. Targetting a smaller ship needed more time. Later the sig radius was also used for the tracking formula so large guns had more problems to hit smaller ships.

I first came across EVE in 04, but at that time decided "meeeh..." Then again in January 2006, when I actually undocked from Cistuavert for the very first time, so pretty much exactly 4 years ago now.
And I regret not starting in 04 ---
