There are problems organizing cargo f.e. splitting mission loot from mission equipment, splitting mining amount from other mining amount (while transporting ore for friends, equipment for corp-mates).
Now another idea, which may solve above problem as well gives a lot of nice logistical possibilities.
* Splitting the cargo-window with a [split cargo]-button into two, three or more TABs. The added Cargo-Tab is 0 m¦ and has the name "unnamed". * You may right-click the TAB for settings like "set new Cargo-Size" with an error message, if the cargo-size is not possible. * You can rename the TAB like "corp-mate XY ore", "T2 equip", "ammo". * You can close the TAB with an approval-message. The Cargo will be inserted into the first Cargo-Tab.
Feel free to discuss this idea and thanks for listening
---------------------- Tried the idea of a 10.000 m¦ Small Freight Container before. This idea give in my eyes more useful content to eve and opens more possibilities, especially for new eve players.

Second step is unneeded and even quite annoying (as you have to drag stuff into some container first to figure out its total size), just use the same mechanism as corp hangars, you can stow away 25k or 38k or 900k or whatever ship and skills allow and the game doesn't care in which tab it is as long as the total isn't more than the ship can carry.
I've supported this and likely proposals before, they just never get implemented. Oh, and the "EVE is supposed to be hard"-crowd will come in any minute and start suggesting containers or courier-contracts.

Thanks, yeah, edited the second step. That's much better and way more useful.

This would also be handy for station inventory management. That way I could easily split out hardeners into their own tab, and "junk" mission loot into their own tab.

In theory this can be done with Station Containers (in stations) and cargo containers in ships. However, both are unelegant solutions.
Station containers work well, but get buried in your hanger inventory when unloading items, and you can't repackage or sell from within them.
Cargo containers have fixed sizes, and thus make it difficult to switch on-the-fly between sorted cargo and one big item using most of your cargo space, without leaving containers all over the place.
A solution allowing sorting of cargo into tabs without needing containers would be wonderful.

thanks for agreeing and the point you mentioned was the reason why posting another thread called Idea: 10.000 m¦ Small Freight Container, because you need a 100.000 m¦ container to split for example 5.000 m¦ special cargo from the other cargo in a freighter. (freighter can't used compressed cargo containers, only General Freight Container). I figured out that it is difficult to explain this point, so I'm pointing to this now again.

The saved fitting window also doesn't work if you have everything in station containers.

Shameless bump, we really want and need this. Thanks CCP. regards --------------------------------------- Sometimes it pays to stay in bed in Monday, rather than spending the rest of the week debugging Monday's code. ~Dan Salomon |

We do need division tabs in our main hangars that are compatible with the saved fittings window!

I would love this feature...
I have been usin containers for this, but the limitations are too much... cant sell, repackage or even fit a ship with the items stored in a container. Another annoying thing is that if you want to put an item inside the container you must open the container first, instead of just dropping the item on top of the container...
Having my own tabs like the corporation hangar would help in organization, specially when you are looting, you get so much items that the important items get lost inside a pile of useless stuff..., dont know why not many people is agreeing with this. |

I would agree to this too. I have also been using station containers to split stuff and it is a pain if you are in another system and someone asks about something you think you have and you have to fly back just to see if you have it. Tabs would allow us to organize and still be able to see everything from the Asset Window.

You can use the assets window to look into containers for a couple of patches now. Doesn't mean I don't like OPs idea though. I hate having to use containers to sort my stuff. Mostly because you can't do anything with items within a container. - In simplistic terms it has been said that there is enough Zero Point Energy in the volume the size of a coffee cup to boil away EarthÆs oceans. |

Thank you Callista. I wasn't aware that was changed. I still agree with the Ops idea though.

Edited by: Samantha U on 16/02/2010 17:32:59 Edited by: Samantha U on 16/02/2010 17:32:33 It's not a massive change that would unbalance the game, and I'm pretty sure most players would find it useful being able to compartmentalise their cargo and hangar space, so I say yes.
