So I started my first account doing simple tasks, upgrading my lil ship to a retriever because of the need for isk, and found that mining wasn't going fast enough.
I Opened a second account to assist my first account. started canning, with the retriever and an osprey, and was robbed on one occasion. Learning from that, I Then used the second account as a transport (badger) only still mining was just to slow for my taste.
I then opened a third account to speed mining up. Now I have the two retrievers (one to complete training to covetor in about 6 days) The second account is a retriever (training to covetor in about 19 days) and I have my third which is a mammoth for transport.
I'm grinding my butt off for ten hours plus a day 5 days a week. I made so far $500.000.000. My question is, Is this what I can expect from mining for the remainder of my life with Eve? I had intended to have two accounts for mining, and the other ( the Mammoth holding space for a gun ship) (Navy Raven looks cool) after training is complete for the " 2 Hulks" My other option which I'm contemplating is keeping 3 accounts for mining and opening a fourth account for the gun ship.
I feel that If I continue with the mining aspect of eve, I will be missing so many other adventures that I hear so much about. Heck, I have been on for about 4 months now and haven't left the nursery of 1.0 space. I would like to travel and see the graphics of this game, but yet I'm afraid to do so because I might lose my ships to pirates. (Or should I travel in a Ibis) Anyway, I'd like to hear a little feed back from other players because I'm getting a little bored of this game. Please advise...Thanks

If you haven't gotten bored mining yet, you will.
Unless you are doing interesting things with this mining, such as converting the raw ore into manufactured items and then playing the market game, you will be one bored person.
Most people do mining as a way to profit their other endeavors.
If you really really like mining, then maybe consider joining a wormhole corporation or an industrial corp in nullsec. That is where it gets interesting - high risk, high reward.
Don't be afraid to take risks in Eve.

This is what you can expect from playing Eve 50 hours a week with three accounts...
Also, I think you should combine your ideas and blow stuff up in the far reaches of space with an Ibis. For serious. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Ok guys thanks for the feed back. The reasons for me going into mining was because that was the easy path for me to go to learn the basics of eve, and I guess that I just got caught up in it because I heard so much about corps and mining for money.
So, I take a sigh, and do what? Start at the basic mission runs? Man, now there's much more to learn. Ok, I guess I'll give up mining after a earn the covetors training, and place those ships in moth balls. Again thanks for the insight of mining. I'm glad that I finally asked about it in the forums.

It's only a day or so to the hulk after you've already skilled the Corvetor. You should go for that, regardless of what you want to do with that character later. Otherwise you'd have wasted all the skilltime until now.
Do something else than mining. Mission running is easy, but also pretty boring. The ISK is better though. Exploration can be fun too. You could also make use of your multiple accounts with exploration. Scan some wormholes and do some mining in there. That's certainly more fun than mining in highsec. Or shoot some sleepers. Whatever you do though, make sure you never risk more than you can replace. -

Edited by: KaiDoh Maru on 03/01/2010 05:55:57 I highly recommend joining a player corp, one friendly to new players that is part of an alliance operating in 0.0.
Although daunting at first for various reasons (interacting with internet spaceship nerds, living in ôdangerous 0.0ö etc) it will help a lot as it will open so much more the game has to offer û as you are aware, thereÆs a lot more fun to be had than simply mining. Try not to worry about losing ships, nothing ventured - nothing gained; low risk û low reward and all that. 0.0 space can be very safe once you are out there and know the ropes.
You should be able to find a friendly corp with players that will enhance your game experience; players to mine, destroy npcs, explore and even maybe fight along side. If you like the industrial side of the game you could manufacture/transport goods into alliance space and make a profit.
Check out the recruitment section of the forums and check prospective corps stats in game such as player numbers. Get a good idea of who you are joining û is the alliance currently in a large war, do they have a reputation for taking advantage of new players? Have a chat to their recruitment guys and try to get a feel if there are members with similar goals/attitudes to the game and if they will help you get to their home space.
Give it ago and see what happens, just remember not to take all your belongings with you in case you need to return to empire. Joining a corp has so many benefits especially to new players, try it, you just might like it! Good luck.

I always keep in the forefront of my mind that isk is for spending, not for keeping. Whenever I earn isk, it's usually to buy a new ship or a replacement ship. I once had five interceptors at a time (all of 'em exploded eventually). That's where my isk goes.
Edit: Oh, and join a player-run corporation (preferably one that has a similar attitude to yours, so you can get along with them). It makes the game tons more fun. --- Earning Isk Basic Skills

you can still use one of your alts for mining while you do missioning with your main char. Mining has the advantage that you can do it mostly afk. You fly your ship into the belt, start mining and come back in 10 minuzters when yourcargohold is full

Hi Cosmo
There is nothing wrong with having lots of ISKies. I have 10s of billions of the things. But remember money is a means to an end. After a while you have everything you need and more money is just killing time.
Time to start doing something interesting with your three characters.
But what to do? That is the big question. There are so many things. I found that running all the COSMOS missions for all the factions was a fun and interesting way to see a good chunk of EVE as well as learning combat, hacking, analyzing, manufacturing from blueprints and much more. A great introduction to the game and not so boring as there is quite a variety of missions.
So now you have a miner and a mission runner. What to do with that last character?
Well the highlight of this game is the PVP. And as pathetically basic as it is, it can be a lot of fun. Just the fact that you are pitting your button mashing against a another real persons button mashing can really get the heart pumping. As well there are many roads you can go down with PVP. Some of the more honorable professions are as a faction soldier or an evil low security space pirate, or even a pirate hunter. You can wander solo looking for fights or join a small gang (my personal favorite) for some really fun action or you could hook up with a null sec corp that's part of a big alliance and get into some epic fleet fights.
I won't touch here on industry or invention, research etc. You can head over to some of the other forums and check that out for yourself.
What it boils down to is that EVE is a sandbox. It's what YOU make it. The universe is wide open for the player with a little imagination and the desire to explore and discover.
Enjoy your stay and fly safe.

I started off mining in a frigate, and once I got intoa mining Rokh (my plan was to upgrade gradually in yield, cargo space, and tank) I started a second account which turned into my Orca pilot.
I mine a lot of the day most days, then I use the minerals to build ships...then either sell them, or mission with them, and get ISK that way.
If you get sick of mining, try missioning. I do both and find it's a good way to get some NPC kills, and ISK. If you decide to stick with mining, ask around, there are always corps/alliances looking for people to build their ships for them...it can be quite a lucrative venture if you wanna put the time in.

Do whatever you want, but find a good group to do it with.
If you like mining, it is much more profitable with a group. If you want to learn PVP and travel in low or null sec, get with a group that can show you the ropes.

Opening more accounts to start having 'fun' might not be the best approach. Sure it's true Eve is pretty much designed around multi-accounting and it will make your life alot easier but if you don't have fun with 1 account, you won't have it with 3 accounts either.

Why are people so obsessed with making isk, I meet lots of people who see that as their single goal and they will voluntarily commit themselves to boring grind just to make pixel cash. I'm going to assume it's because they NEED a goal to get to, they need some form of measurement of "success" and isk simply is the easiest to think off when it comes to a goal. Then they'll adopt the "once I have a lot of money THEN I'll go do something more fun" which is nothing more than lying to oneself or falling back to the way other mmo's work; you have to endure the grind before you're allowed to have fun.
Find FUN things to do, preferably non-solo things, LEARN the game by DOING it and once you get good at it you'll find that your losses aren't that huge and that you can easily support yourself with just a little bit of money making for which there's better ways than boring, stupid, boring grind mining. If you CHOOSE to grind all you'll get is more grind, stop grinding if you don't like it.

I mine on this character in a retriever while playing the market using the skills that allow you to place buy orders and adjust sell orders throughout the region. Just mining itself is not as profitable as training up for a raven and then running level 4s all day. I think however that with Hulks, it does get a lot easier to profit from mining.

It is easy to fall into that trap of 'I can't risk losing ships/things till I have more isk' at half a billion isk you can afford to play with frigate and cruiser losses as well as BC if you so choose maybe even a BS or two.
Don't mine 1-7 to 1-14 unless you are willing to risk your ships as it is a contest to destroy miners' ships.

Have to agree. Once you get into the "can't risk it till I have a little more isk in my wallet" it's very difficult to get away from that mentality. I lost a good year of game time stuck in that loop, best to break the cycle before it starts.
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

Buy combat ships and fit them, take them too lowsec or nullsec. You will get blown up, get over it.
Nothing wrong with a miner alt semi-afk in highsec while your doing fun stuff on another character.
Things to do next time you log in (even on a new alt)
Buy 10 or 50 frigates, T1 fits, join Faction War or Red VS Blue. You are going to get blownup ALOT at first so why get used to it in 100M isk ships when you can do it in a 1M isk ship?
Once you understand that getting blownup is not the end of the world the game gets much funner. I do a little bit of everything and go where ever I want too (I get blownup sometimes) if I lost all my isk and ships tommorrow I can still get back to doing stuff because I have my skills and a starter ship.
By the way I suck at this game.

I too started my first account up and went the mining route, added accounts, abandoned accounts, but always keeping my main as a (mostly) mining character. I added manufacturing to my bag of tricks, as well as piloting skills (so I could deliver the ships I built) One day not long ago I realized that my main could mine the pants off everyone else, and that I had built up the skills to fly (perhaps not "operate") all the tech one ships in the game. At this point I began to use the isk I had made mining/manufacturing to build up my skills to actually "operate" all these cool ships and to learn to fly the even cooler tech 2 ships.
Using these ships I began to run missions, I've gone from running my own little mining corp (made up of entirely Alts), to being a large cog in an other Corp ran by friends. We are all "older" characters that have not done much more than mine. However, now we all have the Isk to do what we want. our mining fleet EATS belts, our exploration guys find us new belts to eat, both in empire and WH space.
You can always add new skills to a character. Teach an old dog new tricks as the saying goes. While you mine always keep an eye on other skills that you think are cool, once you have a core of good skills you can always add to them.
The great thing about Eve is how flexible the game is. Your three "mining characters" have the base skills that you can build anything on top of. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that your character is a one trick pony. I have to laugh when I'm off mining in a low sec system and I get jumped by someone that thinks I'm just a poor little carebear with no teeth, and I come back in a HAC with some big nasty friends and put holes in the "bad guy". I then offer to sell him a new ship and new fittings.
If your afraid that your missing the other adventures of Eve, go, adventure, you can always go back to mining, or have fun with your mining ships by using them as bait to bring in someone to shoot at. Never forget Eve is a game (a very very complicated game, but still a game.)
Thanks for reading

There are two things to do in EVE for the majority of people.
PVP.
And making ISK to PVP.
Theres no dungeons to Leroy, the PVP is not a battle ground or what ever they're called. Where you spawn over and over and over.
EVE is PVP, and recovering from PVP.
That said, a lot of people have fun playing the market games, others cornering the market on an item, others in production and so on.
But at the end of the day, most of this is done so they can make isk to pvp.
What do you want to do in EVE? You just here to get the next bigger ship? To make isk faster? There is no level 70. There's no Achievements to unlock.
EVE is about combat. Player vs player. combat pvp, market pvp, industry pvp, and so on. If you arn't competing against someone else, why are you here?
