they certainly an advantage if fit right where they can take smaller ships. drones kill drones and the neuts will stop pretty much anything dead in it's tracks

this is true -.- armor tanks are pretty lumbering
i think it could be a nanovex, but i'm thinking perhaps a thrasher?

I can hold a tackled ship and deal with the damage from that ship long enough for a fleet up to two jumps away to relieve me.
What ship am I?
You don't exist but there are various options.
To tackle for any length of time you need to catch your target plus one of the following:
- Tank (Heavy Interdiction Cruiser) - Evade damage (Interceptor) - Have ewar superiority (Recon)
There is no one golden ship that can tackle everything but those are the three ship types specifically designed for the job, though some individual ships like the Jaguar and Vaga can work too (No minmatar theme here at all).
Interdictors are also designed to tackle but fall down on the "deal with the damage from that ship long enough for a fleet up to two jumps away to relieve me" requirement.
IMO interceptors are the best for getting an initial point and holding larger targets but have problems with heavier frigates more suited to dogfighting, HICs are good all rounders but lack the speed to keep small fry in the pan and recons are amazing or terrible depending on the situation.
While interceptors can evade damage from larger ships for an absurd amount of time they require a cap booster (cos of neut), dual propulsion (cos of scram), scram, web and disruptor (to be an annoying git with), medium shield extender (cos of drones), copious supply of vodka martini (to pretend you're classy) and behelzebubs modified manual piloting enhancer (to counter the vodka martinis).
728 mid slots and a super computer are required to cover every situation.
That said if there's one tackler that holds head and shoulders above the rest then for me it's the stiletto, it's got 4 mids, fast enough to keep AFs at disruptor range and with a cap booster and small repper can hold almost anything cruiser or up for indefinite periods of time.
Dramiel is pretty uber too _________________________________________________ Lifeboat ----> + Human |

You're essentially correct but with two exceptions, a HIC is a mid sized ship that can tank damage plus with drones and small ships I'd like to point you towards a couple of things people have said:

Definetly a Claw, that thing kills drones very easily. (I love my Claw )
Note the love in this quote, noobs don't kill 5 warrior IIs in a claw they die horribly. Flying frigates is an artform but intensely satisfying when you get it right.

Many ships can tackle outside of neut range.
Many pilots can't however..
QFT.

Also QFT though unfortunately i can't afford to be reckless with them in the same way i would with a stiletto or crow. _________________________________________________ Lifeboat ----> + Human |

Sorry for being daft but I'm not sure what you're getting at, help pls? Not enough tank? Not enough slots? Something specific?
I realize the only advantage the smaller ship has in an e-war situation is speed and scan resolution, since I suppose the theory is that a cruiser sized ship won't have to tank even medium guns if they are being damped sufficiently. (Whereas, a frigate may have an additional advantage in many cases where the turrets would miss, but otherwise hit a larger ship.)
Do you find that the slower speed of the cruiser sized ewar ships ever is a significant obstacle to keeping up with targets or catching them?

He's pointing out that the Keres is a frigate - and one of the requirements in the OP was being able to tackle something smaller than it.

Its a speed tanked Vigil... It can do all that easily...
1. Tackle: 20 km tackle, orbit just outside their range... (neuts n stuff...) 2. Nimble: 3 nano's and a MWD perma run good nuff? 3. Deal with damage: They wont be hitting you... 3. Drones: They cant catch you.

Edited by: Crellion on 08/01/2010 15:03:26 I call Vagabond and Ishtar as well as tech III variants wrong answers as they would kill the tackled thingy before the fleet could come share the KB points from 2 jumps away.
It could of course be a phail Vaga with no Gyros...
Sounds like a faction cruiser or tech I cruiser to me... stabber can do most of what it says there...
Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |
