May I assume that turning the discussion into a "who, me?" defense is a harsh cricitism of those players who posted here claiming they "ninja-salvage" because it annoys mission runners, rather than for the ISK?
Or are you claiming that playing solely to annoy other players is a good thing, and defending everyone who said that's why they "ninja-salvage"?
Or, more likely, we've discovered that along with the negative play-style, the average griefer is a spineless coward /lol.

Since the thing the affected get annoyed about is PvP, yes, it's a good thing seeing as how it's a PvP game and all and maybe they should learn to accept it rather than be annoyed by it.

You don't really know the motivations of ninja's
Think about it... Why would any skilled player spend his time ninja salvaging (for pitiful rewards) when he can earn 40m+/hour running L4's? There are only two answers (well, three, IF the player is stupid): 1. He does it to harvest tears 2. He does it to agro the player so he can blow him up
In almost all cases, the tear harvesting is the primary objective. People blowing up their own wrecks is the BEST, since you then KNOW that they're crying inside
I've ninja'ed quite a few times when bored of L4's, and the objective has always been the same: Raging players either sending me fan-mail or blowing their lid in local.
Even moar denial.. When I used to arse myself to run level 4 missions and a ninja salvager came into the mission I would always blow the cans up as they got to them. Now as I was using a nightmare to turbo run them and not careing a whit about the wrecks they would usually be spaced out pretty well as I could pop most spawns as they appeared. After a few times of running half the length of the room only to have me pop the wreck as they hit the salvager they would just warp out or throw some smacktalk in local. The golden moments were the ones who followed me through the whole mission smacking in local about how he was 'griefing' me by making me blow up all my wrecks and I was soooo stupid for wasting isk blahblahblah. Then at the end of the mission I would leave them with a comment along the lines of: "Well I just made another eleventy million isk. How much did you make?" then jump.
So yes the salvager tears to be collected by blowing up the wrecks as they get to them was very nice along with all the forum tears and denial.

PvP and Ninja salvaging are 2 separate things.

Heh - EvE forums are extra fun because the language is to bizarre.
So lets see if I can follow the logic here ... highSec ninja salvaging - an activity which makes can-Flipping rookie miners look dangerous - is PvP, and therefore cannot be performed solely to annoy the "target" mission runner?
Though I have to admit I'm occasionaly affected just a little by that other famous form of EvE PvP: decreasing the price of items in the market 0.01 ISK at a time.
A fact you really need to take account of: a number of posters have proudly proclaimed that they "ninja-salvage" solely to be annoying. I look forward to the next round of creative (created?) arguments from the defense.

Panhandlers always leave my missions after I start popping wrecks. I have a salvage alt and salvage wile I kill so there's never more than 3 or 4 wrecks.

Im tired of all you noobs complaining about ninja salvagers.
KILL THEM
ITS NOT HARD!
There are several ways to accomplish this task:
1: if they have corp, war dec the corp. 2: if they take form you, kill them. 3: you can go to lo sec no level 4 ninja salvagers there!

Actually I did do that a few times to the ones who would follow me to the end of the mission. If the infocheck came up favorable and they were still flashy(I would let them loot a wreck or two just to keep the option open if they hadn't already looted the previous rooms) then as soon as the mission completed window popped up I would click the guns then click them. Nightmare tracking plus alpha means poor little salvager goes instapop and I salvage his wreck then amble back to the agent. With salvagers around 1 mil each its a nice little bonus reward to add to the missions rewards.

How on earth can it NOT be harmless???? This is an internet spaceship game, not real life!
Seriously, get a grip on what is reality, and what is a game... You're actually on a slippery slope there....
I'm not trying to persuade myself of anything.... I'm playing an internet spaceship game where the goals are defined by ME! This game is about FUN for me, and annoying people like you who take the game far too seriously is definitely FUN!
The people who DOES get upset should take a step back from their computer, turn it off, and re-enter the real world..... The day you get 'upset' over a game is the day you should quit it!

Oh don't be hating on the ninjas so much. Ghey people play Eve too! People really need to be more tolerant.
Just remember, in Eve as in real life there are some real crap bags with no real skills that need to sponge of of those that have them. It's all good.

there are also crapbags who pretend to sponge off others in order to kill them when the time comes and those are truly the most intelligent eve players.
For example, one dude I met (who didnt kill me btw cuz im not mentally handicapped ) showed up and looted my wreck on a coercer. I attacked him and he warped away to station. I warped there and hey hey almost killed him before he docked. Then he undocks in a Bhaalgorn and tries to kill me.
I think he was most likely on his way to the station to get the BS so he could go back to my mission and kill me. Not that it mattered, it was doing crap DPS on me before I decided to dock (it seemed to be a near total neut setup or something )

Honestly, I would be happy when ninja salvagers take half of the salvage ( they are too slow to take everything, unless they come in groups ), because I tend to get bored of salvaging, but I still hate to leave the wrecks.
Too bad there aren't many lowsec ninja salvagers, only seen one since salvaging was introduced.
I bet it is because they can't fit gank if they have to fit for salvage :p

Again, it's not "ninja salvaging". Ninja <profession> implies taking something that doesn't belong to you before the owner can get to it. A more appropriate term would be "wreck disposal". --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

As you can not see people face as they're 'talking' in a forum like this, emoticons, color and signs are a way to highlight certain parts of the text which would normally have been highlighted by a change in tone, or a facial expression. This is not to be mistaken for emotion, except perhaps a certain bemused laughter
Emotion is more evident when people start raging
(ps: you should be realising by now that threads like this is just another fun way of upsetting people who take the game too seriously)

Scamming and corp theft are also intended game mechanics. Just because EVE allows players to be douchebags doesn't mean that a player who engages in douchebaggery is not, in fact, a douchebag.

Actually, it is just a manifestation of the two different main types of EVE players.
One group sees EVE as a competition against others, and in this case the biggest 'win' you can get is when you can see your opponent REALISE he's beaten, and that you've beaten him so thoroughly that you get an emotional response, thus the high value of tears, local-rage or fan-mail. The other group sees EVE as a single-player game with a chat-room.
However, sadly for the second group, EVE is designed from the ground up as a competitive game, thus they endlessly cry on the forum as competition enters what they thought was their little single-player universe
(needless to say, I see EVE as it is designed, implemented and intended; a competitve game)
This should be on top of the EVE "Manual" !
