Edited by: Sublime88 on 13/01/2010 08:21:18 Greetings everyone, I am considering training for Tech III ships but would like the opinions of others out there that fly them. Is
there something really special about the stats that one can generate with a proper fit i.e., absolutely awesome tank, incredible
damage, over powering ecm etc... Or do these ships get their popularity and their usefulness from just being customizable? I don't
think that I would be interested in training for them if they are just a good tech II cruiser, but you can switch out subsystems and
make them a different ship. I am hoping that they are tougher, faster, and can put out a whole lot more damage than its tech II
counterpart. What do you guys think?
~thanks in advance~

Tech 3 ships are fun to fly in the same way navy battleships can be fun. Maximum preformance you can get from a cruiser. But each step up in preformance costs exponentially more so t3 isn't in any way cost effective. Its not a big deal if you don't want to pvp with a t3 ship but thats kind of what fancy cruisers are for. Battleships are better for pve activities.
T3 can run deep 0.0 plexes. Cloaky and interdiction nullifier subsystem to get out there. Probing electronic subsystem. And you should be able to tank it. The problem is low dps makes it take forever to complete anything.

Sucky info.. Well fitted T3 can tank with a T2 fit and one small shield booster worth 30 mln, a 1000 dps, can hit a 20% better than drake and 10% better than faction fitted CNR, and also can tank more due to signature and good working shield booster, can be cap stable, flying 655m/s, hitting with 6 lunchers every 4.5 seconds without implants, and killing Battleship in 20 seconds or less.
CNR worth - 600 mln + zilions faction fit to worth flying Tengu worth - 550 mln + 50 mln for fit
1. buy a tengu 2. fit it 3. profit if you a missionair.

Their customizability is kinda meh if i can say so. Of all setups you can get only like 5-10 total might be useful and working. But they do make awesome tanking ships (both active and passive) and in cases of tengu and proteus they can also have quite huge DPS numbers (almost on par with battleships). Also they have some kinda unique subsystems/bonuses (their recon counterparts) that make em even more omph in pvp. For example 20km scramblers on proteus or uber webs on loki (on the other hand legion recon subsystem is crap and i wouldnt use tengu for ECM ever... falcon does it better).

They also make great mission runners for 0.0.
If you do a bit of research you can find ways to make them completely impossible to probe out, while still having a good tank / gank for Level 4s.
They also make great 0.0 traveling/ratting/complex ships/. Immune to bubbles, warp cloaked, probe launcher, 450dps gank + 600dps tank, with the speed of a cruiser. Basically untouchable in 0.0 if you're a competent pilot ... unless you want to be touched :)
They make pretty good command link ships too, since they can be at a safe-spot uncloaked and still 100% impossible to probe out, while giving bonuses to your fleet.
As far as just raw dps or tank goes, in pvp, probably better off with a T2, only because of costs. If costs are not a factor at all (ie for some reason you are filthy rich and don't know what to do with your trillions), then yeah spend 10x the amount of money to get a ship that can do maybe 15-20% better than a T2 can ;P
Of course if you have that kind of money, some faction BS will be better in quite a few circumstances.

*Sigh*
We get these threads SO often that we may as well have a sticky that says the following.
* T3 are awesome at some things, awful at others, and are only worth the money if yo use them for things they are actually good at.
* Versatility is a lie. There are only a few set-ups for each that are really worth considering.
* T3 normally does multiple things at once to a decent degree, while HACs spec in one. For example, t3 can tank pretty well AND do good damage, while t2 will mostly just do damage.
* If think a t3 will make you awesome and unkillable you are horribly wrong. T3 die just as easy as anything else.
That about covers it.

T3s can do a couple of neat tricks. They tend to have more EHP than HACs but they need it. As a HAC pilot I enjoy them in gangs because I'm not going to be primary.
I would say that for PvP training up T3 because you can do so quickly is a mistake.

Here ya go. 775 dps with t2 fit and holding 160 000 EHP (no implants at all). Add another plate and downgrade guns = 200 000+ ehp , 600ish DPS. Add another magstab instead of eanm or hardener and you get 850dps. This is lower BS damage level. Change 3 magstabs to shadow/federation ones = 890dps. Add 2x 5% implants and you get 950ish DPS. Which you can overheat too for longer than any BS can giving over 1000dps. All this while scrambling up to 20km (TS scrammer), moving 1,25km/s overheated and sporting 122k EHP (you can always put slave set there). Plus having 170m signature radius and 210m/s speed without MWD.

its been stated that the core should cost 100 mil max and each of the sub-systems are supposed to cost 15-25 mil each. T3 is still overvalued for pvp use (unless you have little-no isk issues).

T3 ships definitely worth it if you are a nullsec pirate type who roams around through wormholes and gatecamps. You can build together a cruiser sized ship that can warp unseen, ignores bubbles, has combat scanning abilities, packs a nice 300+ dps (also with drones on speed), and does not require cap booster charges while tanks 400+ dps for a usual amount of time for a 1v1. There is simply no other ship class that can do it in one run.
Customization is overrated, as these ships require rigging, preferably T2 - you will lose those expensive rigs when you change your ship's subs for other task than your preferred one, or you have to live with the now less-than-optimal rigs.
Also, Legion is a fail, there is nothing where it shines above the others, and with these times where blobs are the standard, buying and flying a T3 ship for pvp is simply not worth it. Even T2 ships not worth it when pilot numbers win, which is the usual case.

Anyone got any great Loki fits?
I've tried loads of different combos and it either ends up like an expensive rapier or an expensive Vagabond (mind you, a vaga with long range Webs is pretty awesome..) _________________________________________________

EFT theorycrafting at it finest. If you put 300+ millions into fittings alone then be so kind and compare it to faction BS or faction fitted BS not a "lower end of BS damage".
The truth is that by pumping billion worth of ISK into proteus all you will get is something that is as slow as a brick and does "lower end of BS damage". It will die to the first BS that is equiped with neutalizer and costs 50mil at most (after insurance) or to the first roaming gang (and will the first to die to, lol)..
Like i said, i've seen tengus used very succesfuly many times, lokis used succesfuly sometimes.. and proteus, lol, as primary.. for maybe 20 seconds at most.

Incorrect, rigs aren't destroyed by switching subs. They may not be the most preferential for the new fit you've assembled but you don't lose em till you repackage or remove them yourself.

very incorrect. Legion shines in soloing c3 WH sites and with a pure t2 fit, t1 rigs, and faction crystals can get 478 dps, a 500+ dps omni tank, all while flying over 700 m/s. I love mine and it is very much not fail.

yea i was trying to compare the minni t2 vaga to the loki and im not really sure on it either. the loki can out dps, cap, and scan vaga by a long shot but as far as tanking, speed, and sig radius are concerned it seams like the vaga has the loki crushed. i havnt tried the loki yet this is all on calculations, but im wondering if anyone else has this conclusion too. loki looks sexy but so does a glass vibrater ;P

LOL... legion is way better at hams + tank than the Sacrilege
LOL... legion is way better at sniping than the zealot. 30 or 40k more range with a standard setup and a lot more buffer
LOL... legion is significantly better at close range pulse boat than the zealot or the phantasm... twice as much ehp was greatly needed, though obviously that's still a risky place to be.
Soooo... remind me again about why the legion sucks? It's significantly better than rather universally acknowledged excellent ships, and that sucks for some reason?

Sorry dude.
Not going to happen.
You'll need one fit to travel (and a scout too) and then a different one to fly for shooting stuff.
Your biggest problem is going to be other people busting the plex site and coming to lay some smack down.

Tengu has moar dps, moar precision, moar speed (think about the often 5-10km to the gate ^ ^ or 5-10km grabbing a thing)and can be fitted for both having range or nber DPS. But yes, only against Kin weak. Against other rats, use a machariel ^ ^.

Still, you're right it is a crying shame that they couldn't manage to make a t3 pilgrim version... close but no cigar... no TD bonus... nerfed if you make it cloaky cloaky... if you try to treat it like a curse, it sucks even more cause there's no range bonus to the neuts.
