allright allright! stop the flames! I was just curious thats all. As for the upgrade being free, naw i'd dissagree. we all pay to play this game, and its a service like anyother. Dont get me wrong, i do like the update, and appreciate the fact they didnt have to implement it :P

Good point... next time CCP should release the expansion as a CD... and charge us $20-$30 for it in a store like most other mmo's do.....

How about a new expansion as compensation?

Everyone keeps saying "They are giving us a free update!" and it's getting on my nerves.
They have to give you a free update, or they lose you as a customer. Thats the hitch with single server world. Either shard, or patch it in. Bleh...
I don't care about losing a day. If I was a serious penny pincher I might, but I don't. I mean man, it's like .50 cents.

I dont know if this is worth mentioning, but in some other mmo's when the server goes offline for an extended period (ie over 20hours), the players are credited for the amount of time they couldnt play for.
We all pay for the game, and suddenly loose an entire day of playtime. Not like it's that much monetarily, but it's still alot (im also thinking exodus wont be fully playable after the 24hours passed?)
No one cares?
You're joking right? You get a FREE expansion and you're complaining about an extended downtime to update the servers?

Edited by: Massai on 23/11/2004 03:35:08 i love it when people say things like this...
simply cause people complain about not having new content then when it does get put in at the cost of a day/few hours of downtime to update it people start talking about compensation of some form.
everything extra will obviously come at an extra cost at some stage, its one of those unfortunatly unavoidable facts of life... personally i think that its not that much to ask for a bit of calm when it comes to the time required for implementation of new materials. The guys in the background have been working hard at it for months and if it doesnt go in cleanly then imagine the shouting and spammage on here that would occur?
Think about it, if it doesnt go in well and it doesnt get tested and checked once its in, it could be even longer for the changes to be implimentd.
We ask for changes, we'd better be expected for the downtime to put them in and maintain em.

I havent seen you nagging about the 1hr downtime every day. You want reimbursted for that as well ? The new expension is something we paid for, and you can get it for free. You have to get it for free, since there is only 1 eve world.
Okay, maybe its annoying to have a 24hr+ downtime, but yet again, its for a good cause. On top of that, its better to have it down 1x24 hours then to have it down 24x1 hour. As with previous patches.
One day CCP will pay us back, in ISK or Ç

*yawn* You realize that you're talking about maybe $1 refund!? In return you will get a $20 expansion pack.
Here is an excerpt of the EULA: "While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures."
Regarding the other comment: ccp brought you castor and now exodus for free. I guess that means nothing.

I'm sure if you write a really nice letter to CCP they'll refund you the 30-40p that you lost from missing 1 day of your subscription.
You could get a mars bar with that amount of cash!

I wondered how long it would take before this topic was broached. To be honest, it happened sooner than I thought it would.
In the past, when there has been significant amounts of downtime or problems have caused massive amounts of disconnects (as happened this year in the late spring), CCP has compensated the player base with a free day. Yes, it works out to be .40$ to .50$, depending on what payment plan you are paying for your subscription. However, it is not a choice that is made lightly, each day of play that is compensated to the entire player base has a significant impact on CCP's income.
As tired as people may be of hearing of it, Exodus is a free expansion. There is not a single player that is going to be charged by CCP for this expansion, unless the player starts a brand new account. Compare that to UO, EQ, AC, SWG, etc. with their expansions at approx. 30$ each. The time CCP's Developers isn't any less than the other companies put into their expansions, but CCP isn't hitting the players in the wallet with each new update.
If the update takes a signifinantly longer amount of time to deploy than expected, CCP will discuss compensating for down time.

give em hell keiron. i for one welcome the expansion and have never griped about any downtime. all those that do gripe are not true fans of the game. people should realize it takes many months to create such a patch as shiva and that no matter what there are always delays when it comes to games of this magnitude and the players should be happy that the expansion is free and besides whats .50, its nothing. so just wait and when u can log back in be happy, its going to be a whole new experience
