I got fed up with leaving expeditions when they went to low sec and decided to do one just to see what I could get out of it. So I put on a naked clone. Stripped the tengu of all the expensive stuff and wrecked the fit with cheap mods. Put some WCS in the lows, put on the covert subsystem and a covert ops cloak. The expedition was "Kidnapped!" and the last leg of it was 2 jumps into low sec. I get to the location with no prob and even make a couple of safe spots on the way. Only 5 ppl in local so I think "I can do this" and lock up the first group of npc's in the site. Meanwhile I open up the ship scanner and start spamming for scanner probes. Then I notice it is taking FOREVER to kill a rat. No dps with the covert subsystem on, and no room in the lows for BCS due to the WCS and the CPR's I need to make the fit work at all with cheap mods and my skills (I'm not even a year old yet). About half way thru the first wave of rats I see the first combat scanner probes drop so I warp out to a safe spot and cloak. The guy was pretty persistent b/c I had to wait about 30min for the probes to drop off the scanner. Finally the probes are gone so I go back to work on the site. I end up playing hide and seek with someone in the system about every 10 mins, but I finally get thru the last wave of rats and nothing happens. "Ok" I think to myself, "I must have to kill one of these structuresö. So I go to work on the easy ones, and pop them all pretty quickly. No joy. The only structure left is fracking station so I start pounding on it. It turns out to have ALOT of hit points. So I am shooting at the station and checking for loot and salvage from the wrecks that are still left as I have been at this long enough now that they are starting to disappear. Meanwhile I have to play some more hide and seek with combat scanner probes. But eventually I get thru all the remaining wrecks and I am not surprised to find that the loot and salvage is mostly junk, I am out of cargo hold, and the station I am pounding on is finally into structure. So I jettison the junk, and wait for the station to pop. When it finally pops I get a message telling me that I have killed the ppl I was trying to save, but also killed the kidnapers. And then I get excited b/c a rat spawns I have never seen before. It is a "Guristas Acquisition Commander" or something like that. Must have something good in it right? Must be the Instance boss right? This is what is going to make all the time end effort worth the trip right? He drops nothing, nadda, zero, zilch, zip. "Ok" I think, "Maybe he'll give me some t2 salvage". Wrong again. I get 2 metal scraps off of him. "Ok, fine" I think, "Let's see what is in that can that the station dropped". But only after I spend another half hour playing hide and seek some more. When I do get back to the can the only thing in it is 100units of Fertilizer. Are you kidding me CCP?

Sometimes you get loot, sometimes you don't. It's not guaranteed. And in the future I'd reccomend using a cheaper ship it possible. I don't know this one specifically but I've done the easy lowsec ones in an Ishkur before all the way to the last stage, assault ships are much cheaper and draw a lot less attention than a Tengu would.

Yeah, your right. It is a bit of a whiny thread, but I felt the need to vent. Now that I have, I think it is hilarious that I spent about 3 hours doing that expidition and all I have to show for it is 2 metal scraps and 100 units of firtilizer!

Seriously; use the enter key or add two more thoughts into the mix before posting as I felt like skipping the whole thread due to that.
But yes, whiny and thats the mission, sometimes you win, sometimes you get little. Try the Leaking Cask / Haunted Yard expidtion, that gives you a real bum steer sometimes.
Oh and look, my ENTER key is working.
Hey hey, look, there is goes again.
Sorry cant resist now, look it worked again.....
Also would like to add, you seem lucky cause if some one was scanning you down and you left, I sometimes flick my probes from ships to cosmic sigs, just to see if the person I am searching for may not be doign a mission but an exploration site, so I can ambush em later. Seems you were lucky in that instance.

He was doing the last stage of a combat escalation, which spawns like a mission, only the first stage that triggers the escalation has a signature, so unless you can get a ship or probe hit, you aren't going to find it.

You do realize that ALL expeditions go to low sec or 0.0 eventually. As for getting screwed on the loot its exploration get used to it. Also use a drake not a tengu.

What does the underlined bit have to do with you fitting stabs?
If you're planning on going to LS or 0.0 just fit a cloak bm some safes and be done with it. Don't fit stabs.

Yeah this escalation is working as designed. It will only rarely drop something of value, which is a pain given how many hit points that damned station has. I've done this site over 30 times, and had decent drops on no more than 5. I have received a few worm bpc's (1 run), a small pithi-a shield booster. The rest of the time, it's usually 15 civilians (which get jettisoned).

"Kidnapped" is escalation from Guristas Vigil. The Vigil and escalation looks Ok, with eventual drops of Limited pirates implantants. But the last stage of this escalation nothing but trap with very rare, and I mean rare, drops if commander even arrives after structure been destroyed.
Normally, last stage location is in border low sec system, or sometimes 1-2 jumps deep in low-sec.
You can use Drake or Tengu, doesn't really matter since you will be sitting duck for at least 10 min and up to an hour, depending of your DPS. If you like warp off and get back every minute, it may be sort of fun, since this border systems quiet busy in Caldari. And chances that you get NOTHING at all at the end are about 80%.
After dozen times getting nothing in row, I decided just to stop doing this very final stage of "Kidnapped".
Just w_a_i_s_t o_f t_i_m_e.
If you still curiouse and want take chances here is the tip for you:
Since you don't have to kill all rats just only structure to invoke officer use stelsh bomber with T2 Javelin torpedoes, with as long range as possible, orbit with AB around structure at distance you torpedoes range permits (you should be fine at about 100km).
And don't forget make your bomber as difficult to probe as possible, or even try to make it unprobable.

I had the Sansha version of this, (aptly named Sansha Vigil) which led me through about 3-4 escalations and then the final part in low-sec. Luckily it was a relatively quiet system and I kept the same fit I used for the other stages, relying on the directional scanner to keep up to date of pirate threats.
Probably spent about 30 minutes to do it in my Sacrilege after which the Sansha Foreman appeared when the Sansha Battletower hit structure. Killed him fast and no loot what so ever, just a tag and a random meta 4 item.
A high-sec to low-sec escalation, 4/10 difficulty (Sansha Vigil put my Sac to the test in the second room with the stasis drones) and a jump to low-sec to top it off with a battleship commander that didn't even give any T2 salvage worth writing home about.
Yes it's exploration, but the Vigil escalations could use a buff in their drops. The best thing I got was a low-grade Slave Alpha worth a whole 17mil...woo...
Also...3 hours...in a Tengu? Against Guristas? Low-sec ain't THAT scary is it? (not to me in my Sac anyways, that's what directional is for ) ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

I've done the Gurista Vigil escalation into LS several times, I have gotten the Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster twice from about 15 runs - but when I go, I take an unprobabeable tengu -- since you are not in a sig/anom site, you wont be able to be scanned down:
[Tengu, CURRENT unprob] Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Warded Gravimetric Backup Cluster I
Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner Caldari Navy Invulnerability Field Caldari Navy Invulnerability Field Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst II
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
It doesn't take that long to do (I'm not a year old either, just passed 12m skill points), maybe 15-20 mins. The only risky part is getting to the site since I don't fit a cloak to the ship, so I use my alt's account to scout out the far side of the jump gates. Then once through, I find somewhere safe and sit there with all my ECCM running whilst I move the scout on to the next system. |
