I have a moon harvester set at my moon and it seems to be stuck at "online - starting up". It is linked to a coupling array. How long does this start up take?

It will start when your tower "cycles." This time is dictated by when exactly your tower was onlined.
This is when any reaction will start and when fuel will be taken. To determine this exact time, follow these steps:
1. Remove 1 fuel source (such as enriched uranium/robotics) such that there is only 24 hours remaining. 2. When your tower cycles, it will pull fuel. It will find that there is only 23 hours of the fuel you removed left. 3. You will get a notification mail stating the above + current resources. 4. Write down the timestamp on the mail. That is when your tower cycles.
This is extremely useful for micromanaging a POS. For instance, if something you want to construct only takes say 20 minutes and it takes 10 minutes to online the structure, you could online it right after the tower cycles, manufacture it, then offline the structure when complete. I am not entirely sure if I am correct here, but the tower should then not take the extra grid/cpu that structure used into account when it draws fuel next.
It is also great for refueling reactions. You can offline an input silo right after the tower cycles, reload it with input materials, then online it again before the next cycle.
Good luck _____________________________________________

If that is true then what use is a coupling array? Could one just out put right to a silo?

Yep.. Coupling array IMO is useless for a simple Harvester -> Silo setup.
Just make sure the silo is back online by the time the tower cycles and you won't lose anything. If it's not online, you'll lose the hour worth of moon goo.

its for those too lazy to find out when pos cycles |

Can I connect the output of a Moon Harvester right to a simple reactor with no coupling array if both elements are mined at the moon?

Yes, harvester + harvester -> simple reactor -> silo.
Edit: spelling s*cks

I am 90% certain you need it to go into a silo so that it can be linked to the reactor in the processes tab on the POS. _____________________________________________

XxSketchxx, you are incorrect. I have a number of medium towers that mine both ingredients and then do a simple reaction. They are set up with two moon miners feeding the simple reactor which then empties into a silo. No coupling array is needed between the harvesting array and the simple reactor. A coupling array could be put between the output of the reactor and the silo but is not necessary if you know when your tower ticks.

I stand corrected then. I have only ever theorized this and performed intermediate reactions/alchemy.

I just tried that setup and the system won't online. As soon as the POS cycles the whole setup goes to online after saying "starting up". What is the right way to run the start up?

Edited by: Shiangti on 23/01/2010 00:49:30 It takes two hours for your first batch to be made. In the first hour, the moon harvesting arrays mine the minerals and feed them into the simple reactor. During the second hour, the moon mines mine and again while the simple reactor reacts the minerals together. On the next tick of your tower, the simple reactor sends 200 units of product to the silo (or coupling array) and the harvesters send more minerals into the simple reactor to be reacted. Every tick thereafter repeats the process. You need at least a medium tower to do it. You make sure all the connections are set up and hit apply. I then on-lined the moon harvesters, then the reactor, and finally the silo. I then went away for a couple hours. When I came back I had 200 units of product in the silo. Now all I do is offline the silo to empty it and put the silo online before my tower ticks again.
