Originally by: Itono I still like it, but I must say I liked it much more when low-sec space still meant "lower sec" and not "instant death".
That was before battleships, and more exactly before pimped out battleships became common. The gate turrets made it impossible for most ships to attack you, which meant that it was possible to travel. Nowadays the gate turrets are a joke, and people camp the gates with carriers...
Yeah, except that some 99% of low sec space is still not the way you describe it. If anything, a lot of it, even with FW and all, is mostly empty.

As long as they don't dumb it down so much that you can create a new character and in 1 week have every skill trained to level V and every module slot filled with the best equipment in the game, just like they did with (sorry to say it) WoW, it will keep on being the best game... ever.

Edited by: Jansen Pindar on 22/01/2010 22:23:32 I find it interesting that there seems to be a common theme running throughout many of the replies to this thread so far. In short, the idea seems to be that EVE was a better and more interesting place when it "felt bigger" and there were far fewer gamers playing.
It might be possible to dismiss some of this as nothing more than established players yearning for the days when EVE was less mainstream, but it's unlikely that accounts for so many people saying more or less the same thing. It's more likely that a majority of players agree that EVE no longer feels like a wide open space game because it's become far too crowded. While it may be true that portions of New Eden are relatively deserted at any given time, the game still feels too crowded because there are large numbers of players just a jump or two away. I'm not saying I agree with this interpretation, but the common theme here seems to be that EVE's 'Golden Age' was when it felt more open, more free, and less crowded.
If that's true, do you think it partially explains why there seems to be more friction between EVE's players and the devs these days? In other words, the EVE devs are working hard to refine and re-design the game so that it has broad mainstream appeal, but a majority of existing EVE players feel the game is already too crowded and was more fun when there were fewer people playing. It would seem the devs and the players are working toward opposite goals.

I'd say now is the golden age of eve, despite lag, despite goons, despite wonky sov. The game is in the process of being improved in fundamental ways and is better looking and more fun than ever.

Pre Exodus... Or generally before level 4 agents.
I had all my isks invested in a new vexor. It took me a week to get new cruiser and the last one was destroyed in the camp in a chokepoint system. And still I was rushing into 0.0 just to hunt those precious 0.0 NPCs and to risk everything I had.
I'm really sorry for those who have started later with everything easily available in empire and when majority of population just have no reason to risk anything or experience adrenaline.

There's still a bright future on the horizon.
Each year the game dynamically changes, and I would like to think that EVE is building steam toward some distant vision rather than delaying its own fail cascade like most other MMOs.

As said in previous posts "Red Moon Rising",awesome.
Personally,the game has steadly declined.Reasons:
More account hacking, nerfs,CCP's lack of sorting out gridloading in large fleet fights and they seemingly don't listen to their customers anymore, like they used to!
Sure Yeah, the games gotta evolve but which way? I sometimes wonder that they don't even know which way themselves!
Looking forward to some new internet space ship games coming out in 2010 and its not EVE.
