The only problem I have with the "police" is that they appear magically out of nothing within seconds of any "crime" occurring. Concord == God?

Has SSC even come remotely close to breaking even on insurance?
Their insurance is term insurance, and only works if they don't have to pay out for a given term, i.e. it expires.
How often does that happen? Probably rarely-to-never, much less even remotely approaching a 1-to-1 basis for payouts.
So their rates are ridiculously low for actual insurance. And that doesn't count that they're insuring warships...for war, which simply doesn't happen in the real world.
And, of course, there's no clause to avoid a payout because you ganked, then got Concorded, an almost-guaranteed loss that makes insuring a normal warship for war look like a safe investment in government bonds. :)
Yes, the "RP" reasoning is quite messed up.

The following scenario comes to mind:
A woman who isn't in love with her husband any more chooses to wear a pink dress to a dinner party while her husband's colleague is attending the same party after having a few days off in which he drove to Montana for fishing with his sons. In the meanwhile the neighbour of said woman watches a daily show at 8 pm and suddenly realizes that the trash cans aren't outside yet, so she calls her own son to put them out, but while this happens, on the other side of town a cat crosses the street without paying much attention to the old drunk which lays sprawled on a nearby park bench as a police car drives by which is noticed by the 23 year old geology student who is looking down from the attic window of an old run down colonial era house on the other side of the road who subsequently yawns and walks off to fetch another cup of coffee when suddenly everyone dies.
Obvious conclusions; Concord's fine, insurance is unrealistic, we need more low sec and more reasons to go there and I make as much sense as Zill.

Okay, I am sure this is a huge waste of time, but lets use this analogy realistically.
You are out in your car, driving around, and you see a bunch of rocks in a public property with a big sign that says "Free Rocks!" You start putting rocks into a box. Someone else comes, takes one of your free rocks, and you shoot at him. Yeah, guess what, the cops will shoot at YOU. Of course, analogy is generally silly, and certainly does not compare to a video game.

The box is a trash can. Them stealing from the trash can allows you to shoot at them, so the police won't shoot at you. The moment you shoot, he can shoot back.
And to think, all these sad deaths are all over free rocks. Now, if they were free Rokhs...

sound like a police force anyone else can think of?
That sounds like the real life police. If some guy with a Colt 1911 wants to follow you around and he is open-carrying (legal) and you say 'Oh it made me nervous, so I attacked him' you will go down on an assault charge because YOU broke the law.
If some guy breaks into your house to steal your stuff and you shoot him while he was inside your house you will probably be ruled justifiable homicide, but if you shoot him in the front yard as he attempts to flee you will go down for murder as your life is not in danger.
If two gangs are fighting on the street, and it is just drug dealers killing other drug dealers then yeah the police will probably look the other way.

They go to live in the land of the undead. There they wait half a day and then move on to oblivion.
Then a miracle happens \O/
A brand new little baby griefer is born to take their place. It's so beautiful, and so precious, that I have a tear in my eye just thinking of it.

Yes because CCP Dev's don't use comparisons either do they!
You sir are a joke, Even CCP Dev's make comparisons to RL look at NPC corp tax... What was one of their additionally excuses. I remember that they said, well you don't get a non taxed income in Real life!

To be fair, thats not generally the case. He steals a TV that you tossed in the garbage, you get angry and shoot at him, he runs away scared and then comes back with said shotgun.
Remember, when using real life parallels, try not to compare it to US laws. The above scenario, when you pull a gun on someone stealing your stuff (or trash), you're liable to go to jail - in most countries anyway.

but is it trash your jetisoning?
some see it as putting a box outside with junk in it, but its not trash, to return to later but others see it as trash left outside in a box.
so if i've out a bag down next to my car and i drop one load into the house and come back to my car, is it ok for someone to pilfer my bag of goods? in order to atagnoise me to violence?

Now you're getting into what the courts would define as the reasonableness argument. (Disclaimer, not a lawyer, etc etc).
In other words, if you are carrying groceries into your house, and you leave a bag of groceries by your car to come back for, a reasonable person (who is competent, which is also subject to the court's interpretation) should recognize that you intend to come back for those goods.
If you put a box of "junk" into your garage, you obviously mean to retain possession of said junk, and I think any reasonable person would agree.
On the other hand, if you toss said box into a clearly designated receptacle for holding trash, a reasonable person would most likely assume you don't want it anymore, which, in most cases, removes your claim to ownership.
As far as the "in order to antagonize you to violence" part of your statement, now you're getting into intent, which is completely different from the actions. Also, your reaction to the actrions of other people is completely your own responsibility. No one forced you to shoot at them. You chose to do so. Live with the consequences of your actions (which is what Eve is all about). --Vel

Fixed...
Situation: A thuggish looking man walks into your house, and grabs your $1000 TV and takes it out into your lawn. He stands there, staring menacingly at you. You run back upstairs really fast to get your rifle, you return to your yard happy he is still there and blow his brains all across the grass.
The Result:The police rule it was your right to take back your property.
Situation: A man follows you around aiming a gun at your head. Being unhappy with this harassment you get the police to send a letter stating you will kill him in 24 hours.
The Result: As soon as 24 hours come you blow his brains all over ground with your high powered rifle. The cops rule it was his fault since you gave 24 hours with your magic paper.
Situation: The police send a letter stating that your neighbor may attack you in any way they please starting in 24 hours for the duration of a week.
Result: Your neighbor mortars your house but because you got the 24 hour notice you were in the bunker and did not die. However your house sustained damage but because you had time to plan the mercenaries you hire show up and kill your neighbor. The repair crews then immediately fix your house.
there its more Evealistic... (See what I did there?) |

I would like to point out that the OP of this thread is comparing the police with Concord. Alright, so we are going to ignore the fact that many other aspects of the game don't conform to any real life reality at all and just use it as an example to whine about suicide ganking. Alright, then I would like to put forward the following "scenario":
I get angry at someone for their copious amount of trash talk towards me. I punch them. The police magically appear out of no where to kill me. Yea, that sounds like a real life police force. Also, if this was a game based at being closer to real life you would be totally screwed over by a really high tax rate to fund the whole Caldari-Gallente-Amarr-Minmitar war. Or do you get suicide ganked enough for it to account for 20-30% of your income?
