There was some GM type comment about some planning for better testing equipment, voice server included. I would hazard a guess that the current equipment is not scaled for the load we put on it today.
But then, instead of needing 300-400 people to lag it out, we'd need 1200.
The fact that stuff all failed is actually very good. It means we might have less of it failing in production...

All in all a good test I thought.
Only got confusing a few times:
* We were told not to shoot. The other fleet opened fire, insisting they had been told to shoot, but our fleet had been told nothing.
* After the fight started at the gate, we were told to move the fight to ffb1 or something like that. I had no idea what that stood for and many kept fighting on the gate. So half the people were fighting on one grid and the other half on another grid.
* Some of CCP's instructions were lost because so many people were posting in the fleet/masstest channels. In future it would be better to have a command channel which is read only to the players.

I had a nice evening on in this test - ppl. complaining about lag haven't tried the really bad lag, this was your everyday experience.
I was in the 'aggressor' fleet, getting the +-3 mins. traffic control when we jumped in and out of fd- and the expected module lag when fighting commenced. I stayed at the gate till I had no more targets of my class (bs's), and then moved to ffa3 with the rest. at that point I could turn autorepeat back on, but the fleets had been pretty much closed down by then.
I will join the crowd pointing at the problem of getting the directions from the CCP people in fleet and local. When dealing with groups this large you must have clear comms. Verbal is best, but some backup read-only channel for the players might do it too. |

Edited by: Togae Alus on 29/01/2010 01:39:15 Sadly i could not make the test server run as i was at work but this migth help
check D-GTMI stats for the previous 5 hours to this post in tranquility you will see that the server will not hold 1200+ and those are the sizes you need to bee looking at for sov warfare at the moment
If you are the group jumping into system you will get murdered as the grid wont load.

I think sometime in the past some GM/DEV talked about SiSi and how Tranquillity was basically a scaled up version of it. SiSi, understandably, has less Nodes, so it has to handle more stress on teh few nodes it has. Depending on teh server load you see, a 500 man Fleetfight on SiSi probably alredy gets very close to what a 1200 man fight on Tranquility might be, and that is like already clash of the Giants. Our Record was 1400 in p-2, maybe even a few more, so we had one Node with the LOad of Jita at peak times, but with the difference that not everyone in Jita is undocked and rys to shoot something.
Supposedly they found the bug, so lets see what happens.

LFA, this is not the place to discuss D-G, but try looking here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1256304&page=5#138 _____________________

No, because each solar system is only handled by a single node. Now it is true that each node may handle more than one solar system, but during the test there were no other huge fights going on. _____________________

is there any priority for tasks like loading a grid compared to shooting stuff in the server code? (like the stackless priority suggested by Kristjßn)
when people lock and shoot it is likely less cpu usage compared to send 1k+ objects on grid to a user which means the loading/getting data will take far longer in stackless python compared to a fps based server which finishes all stuff in a frame before starting the next one as a result people jumping/warping into a pretty full grid wait ages for the server to send the grid status, people on grid get the small updates much quicker, lock, shoot and win
the only chance people jumping in have is to fleetwarp into the grid so both sides get hit by the load lag hammer

Just a quick suggestion I'm going to throw out. Can we get a new mirror of SISI before this test happens? NOV 18th is more than just a bit old. We already have SISI running the same client as TQ, why not mirror the data over as well? If people are running with the skills and equipment they have on TQ it'll be a better representation of what problems are currently plaguing TQ.

Yes, I tend to agree with Sugarush but at the same time the Dev/gm/bug hunters are gona be working overtime while they are looking into this testing so I think most likely they will not have the time to Mirror the data.

Was just about to post the same thing. I just came back 2 months ago, started from scratch. <insert epic isk making> Now I have a 25m sp command ship pilot but it'd need to be added to the mirror.
I can arrange an op for my alliance if I can be included on this, which might only be 30-40 people, since it is Sisi.
