Hi everybody!
I would like to create a new character that should help making some money. I would like a character that is specialised in PvE mission running using drones. The idea is that the character can "solve his missions in the background" so I am able to work while clearing the missions.
To not make a mistake I am looking for a skillplan (including learning skills ) to get a most effective pilot for PvE using drones. To be honest I am not even sure if to use Gallente or Caldari.
I would be very thankfull if somebody could guide me to the right character.
TIA Have great day!

I'm not sure about a skill plan, but I can give you some advice and that is, don't plan on doing PVE with solely drones, it just doesn't cut it
I used to see people talk about "Shredding" NPC's with their leet drone skills, and I just recently finished a long skill train to get most all drone skills to v, except for the race drone spec and electronic drone warfare and durability all at IV.
Even in a ship with drone bonuses, they just can't come close to the dps of a well skilled gun or missile ship, at least not for PVE. They are a good compliment to gun/missile damage. All this is in respect to PVE. NOT PVP
My two cents

Perhaps you should start with learning to use the Dominix with T2 (preferably heavy) drones. All the drone support skills are worth it.

-Gallente Battleships to 4 -Heavy Drone Operation to 4 (unless you want tech2 but those are much more expensive so you'd want to keep an eye out) -<Race> Drone Specialization to 4 (Gallente drone if using Ogres) -Drone Durability/Interfacing/Navigation/Sharpshooting to 4 You want to fit a domi with 2xLAR, 4 t2 mission hardeners, drone range extender and enough cap rechargers and CCC to power both LAR indefinitely.
Set up drones to focus fire, then wait until you have all the aggro, release drones on one ship and wait, drones will switch targets continiously until everything in their range is dead.
Watch for triggers as more spawns can aggro on the drones and kill them off. Luckily you can carry a ridiculous ammount of heavies in the Domi.
Also if you can fit it, a drone navigation computer. the faster your drones can get to their next target, the faster everything is going to die.
Consider getting drone interfacing to 5 after you have the setup going for the extra 20% dmg boost.

Drone spec skills don't affect heavy and sentry drones

You have to have the racial Drone spec to 4 to use T2 heavies of a certain race

Wrong, they do affect heavies.

Given that an AFK mission Domi will do missions more slowly than a cruise Raven (say), does anyone have an estimate for how much isk/hour such an account could generate? If it can do 10m/hour doing level 4 missions AFK that could still be quite a bit of isk to make without much work.

Correction to the above. Drone specialization skill only affect those drones that require drone specialization. This means that sentries and all t1 drones do not benifit from ranks in these skills. If you want to use Ogre II's you have to have gal spec to IV. If not, ignore it and just get heavy drones to IV. To V is a 20+++ day training skill anyhoot. Spend your time on drone interfacing (+20% damage), thats the initial money maker, followed by the Gal BS skill once you have drones to V.
The Intakis have an obligation to defend the Federation, but not to assult others on its behalf. |

5 T2 heavies with DI 4 will out DPS 5 T1 heavies with DI 5.
Ultimately, you will want both T2 heavies and DI 5.

But not by much. Plus DI5 will improve ALL drones and not just heavies.
And you're going to want those light ones for frigs anyway.

Edited by: Nico Terces on 03/02/2010 11:13:19 Hm yeah, race for: (Do the levels that cost you the least training time first always)
- Gallente Battleships 4, - Heavy Drones 4 and - Drone Interfacing 5
The myrmidon is cool, but while you're doing lvl 3 missions you can use the dominix as well (afaik), to the same / better results, so skip battlecruisers altogether. If you really like battlecruisers, just train the skill Battlecruisers to lvl 3 before you get battleships 4.
Anyway, after you get these skills which allow you to shoot hard with your drones, you want them to be able to do stuff as well. Combat drone dps is from shooting damage, but the time it takes to complete a mission is also defined through flight time. You have to wait for your drones to reach target before they shoot, so we gotta get some drone support skills!
Get:
- Scout Drone Operation lvl 5 (Get this sooner than later, it enables you tech 2 hammerheads and hobgoblins, which are good against frigates and cruisers that are FAR away, or really quick) - Drone Navigation lvl 4 - Drone Sharpshooting lvl 3-4
When you have these skills, you should have standings to run lvl 4 missions. Then get:
- Gallente drone spec to lvl 4 (get this one before Heavy Drone Spec, as you need it at lvl 4 to be able to use tech 2 ogres as well. It sucks having to train another 4 days to use OgreII's when you finally have Heavy Drone Spec lvl 5)) - Heavy Drone spec to lvl 5, which gives you tech 2 ogres. Ogre II's cut through lvl 4 missions a LOT quicker than tech 1 ogres. - Scout Drone Operation lvl 5 (This gives you hobgoblin and hammerheads tech 2)
After you have this you're pretty much a drone marauder already. This is when you should start getting:
- Electronic warfare drone interfacing lvl 4 (Drone control range) - Minmatar Drone Spec lvl 4 - Drone Navigation lvl 5 - Scout Drone Operation lvl 5 - Sentry Drone Interfacing lvl 5
Be sure to get support skills in between so you can actually tank! More important at AFK missioning is knowing what the hell you are doing. Therefore, I strongly suggest you check http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage before every mission. Read about drone aggro, linked groups, and resistances. You won't be able to tank an afk domi with omnitanks, you have to specialise your resistances for each mission.
Furthermore, you can also focus your drone damage types against your targets. This sounds really cool, but generally it means you're using explosive against Angels and thermal against everything else. Caldari drones are not very good, while Amarr drones are horrible. Even if your target is "weak" against emp, the amarr drones do so little damage that your Ogres will still outdamage them.
Also when you get sentry drones lvl 5, you can start learning how to use a less afk high dps missionboat.

But the T2 are also faster and have more hp.
