While the English were the first to lay claim to St. Vincent in 1627, the French would be the first European settlers on the island when they established their first colony at Barrouallie on the Leeward side of St. Vincent shortly before 1700.
Carib Indians aggressively prevented European settlement on St. Vincent until the 18th century. African slaves, whether shipwrecked or escaped from St. Lucia or Grenada and seeking refuge in St. Vincent, intermarried with the Caribs and became known as "black Caribs", but now known as Garifuna. Commencing in 1719, French settlers cultivated coffee, tobacco, indigo, corn, and sugar on plantations worked by African slaves. St. Vincent was ceded to Britain by the Treaty of Paris (1763), restored to French rule in 1779 and regained by the British under the Treaty of Versailles (1783). Conflict between the British and the black Caribs continued until 1796, when General Abercrombie crushed a revolt fomented by the French radical Victor Hugues. More than 5,000 black Caribs were eventually deported to Roatßn, an island off the coast of Honduras.

The War of 1812 was a war fought between the United States of America and the British Empire û particularly Great Britain and the provinces of British North America, the antecedent of Canada. Lasting from 1812 to 1815, it was fought chiefly on the Atlantic Ocean and on the land, coasts and waterways of North America.
The United States took the initiative in declaring war for multiple reasons. In 1807, Britain introduced a series of trade restrictions to impede on-going American trade with France, Britain's long-time rival. The U.S. contested these restrictions as illegal under international law.[4] Both the impressment of American citizens into the Royal Navy, and Britain's military support of American Indians who were attacking American settlers moving into the Northwest further aggravated tensions. Indian raids hindered the expansion of U.S. into potentially valuable farmlands in the Northwest Territory, comprising the modern states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.[5] Some British officials û and some dissident Americans û charged that the goal was to annex part of Canada, but they did not specify which part. The states nearest Canada strongly opposed the war.[6]

The Battle of Kosovo (Serbian: Kosovska bitka, Turkish: Kosova Muharebesi) was a battle fought in 1389 on St Vitus' Day, June 15, between the Serbian principality and the invading army of the Ottoman Empire under the leadership of Sultan Murad I. The battle took place in the Kosovo Field, about 5 kilometers northwest of modern-day Pristina. Reliable historical accounts of the battle are scarce; however, a critical comparison with historically contemporaneous battles (such as the Battle of Angora or Nikopolis) enables reliable reconstruction.
The battle of Kosovo was a victory for the Ottomans. While both armies were virtually destroyed and both sides lost their leaders, the Ottomans were able to easily field another army of equal or greater size, whereas Serbia could not. Because of these losses, Serbia was reduced to a vassal state with Serbian nobles paying tribute and supplying soldiers to the Ottomans. The battle did, however, stop the Ottoman advance into Europe and slowed down their invasion of Serbia. Furthermore, in response to Turkish pressure, some Serbian noblemen wed their daughters, including the daughter of Prince Lazar, to Bayezid. In the wake of these marriages, Stefan Lazarević became a loyal ally of Bayezid, going on to contribute significant forces to many of Bayezid's future military engagements, including the Battle of Nicopolis which marked the last large-scale Crusade in the Middle Ages. Eventually, the Serbian Despotate would, on numerous occasions, attempt to defeat the Ottomans in conjunction with the Hungarians until its final defeat in 1459 and again in 1540.

The electrified water cannon was a non-lethal weapon under early research by Jaycor Tactical Systems, as part of a program to produce non-lethal weapons for law enforcement officers. It is sometimes referred to as the electrocuting water cannon; however, the proposal was for low current, high voltage pulses like those produced by a stun gun, which do not cause electrocution. Further, the water jet was considerably smaller and less powerful than a water cannon. Jaycor officially referred to its experiment as a "wireless stun gun".
