Yo, I have an old account that I stopped paying for like a year ago that was harvesting research points for datacores.
Is it still accruing datacores to this day?

This. Unpaid datacore alts aren't good for the game, they just mean research is massively deflated for anyone who actually wants to pursue it as a career. I'd go as far as to say the entire system needs a revamp so that it isn't 100% passive. Having to go to the agent and run daily missions would be annoying, but somewhere between the extremes a happy medium could be found.

There is a thread suggesting that CCP end ghost datacore production, over in the Assembly Hall.
So yes, it's still working, but no, it shouldn't be. [Aussie players: join channels ANZAC or AUSSIES] |

Edited by: Kerfira on 08/02/2010 16:10:26 I've got 12+ alt accounts with all 3 characters going at it (adding to them all the time).... I reactivate them like once a year and cash in all the cores.... You can train one char up to L4 in the required research skills in about a month.
Earns me a VERY pretty amount of ISK
Grinding the standings takes a little time, but since I do a fair amount of missioning, I've gradually built them up...
Eventually CCP will probably stop the fun, but they've already earned themselves back at least 10 times

RP/day cut down to 33% of its current, while missions give double their current amount.
eg. something that currently gives 100 rp/day could give 33 rp/day, with 200rp/mission, the net result is that if you do missions, you get 1/3rd of a day more rp than you would doing missions under the old system, but if you DON'T do missions, you only get 1/3rd your normal RP.
and yes, unpaid RP point accruement should go. make it work like ghost training, after 3 downtimes on an unpaid account, the research stops. When they start paying again, they can start earning money again.

I also wouldn't mind some sort of research activity that isn't standard mission running. As much as I hate to say it: What about a research minigame? It could be something as simple as a Bejeweled clone, the idea is just to take up some time and make you think, in exchange giving you research points. Or how about a "sample module" where the research agent will say "Hey, I need a sample of X, Y, and Z, go scan them with your module" where X, Y, and Z could be anything from a Serpentis frigate to a Machariel to a Minmatar station.

Agreed.
I'd say make it so you have to visit your research agent something like once every month to do this task aswell.
Maybe the better you do at the minigame, the more RP/day you get for that month>

Removal of RP gathering from inactive account, OK.
Mandatory visits/minigames for getting your RP even if the account is active: Hell, no!
Have you an idea of far from each other are the best agents in the same field? A complete circuit is more than 40 jumps for me. And I have several characters with them.
If you implement a mandatory minigame people with a lot of agents would move to a few adjacent agents even if they are low level/bad quality (WOW, several Caldari corps have multiple R&D agents in the same station - another PvE Caldari buff?) and the RP production would suffer greatly. Not a good idea as it will increase the cost of all T2 items.

They really are (and should stay) two completely separate questions.

And they are 2 separate replies to the two suggestions in this thread.

Yes datacores will keep piling up on inactive accounts.
And to all others - First we need to remove T2 BPO's. Then we can see about other 'Ghost' things. Neeneeneeneee - I have 8 characters (last one finished standings grind today) who are bringing me in 'free' datacores :)
