Ok so I put in a petition for this a few days ago and was just wandering if anyone has had any experience or knowledge on a similar predicament.
I recently came back from a few day vacation to find out that my 'friend', we're not talking, decided that I don't need to play eve anymore. He logged onto my accounts and deleted what characters he could.
Yea I know he shouldn't be able to log on to my accounts. I had the info in a folder by my comp with all my maps and so forth.
Anyway the thought of starting over, which I've already done in the past few days while waiting for a petition response, is killing me.
My main, and 2 alts are gone. About 2-3years of playtime and several billion in assets.
Is there any chance of recovery? I don't know how the info is handled on the tranquility server or if its still there after deletion. Could the characters be rebuilt from the most recent Sisi info?
I've read the UELA and it states that only corrupt characters can be rebuilt but. . . . I guy can hope right.
Might be time to move on I guess....

I'm afraid there's no way back now. I've heard of someone getting drunk and deleting their character (must have been one hell of a party to still be drunk 10 hours after the deletion process starts) and CCP didn't restore anything.
You might want to take a step back and decide whether it's worth starting from scratch. Though if you do, make sure you pick a completely different path (different ships, different professions, etc) or you'll be bored out of your mind quite soon.

No kidding, I tried to Salvage one last night. Took me 20 cycles before the pilot convoed me and told me to stop it.

Edited by: Joe Astor on 08/02/2010 23:24:49 If your account was hacked, I've heard stories of CCP restoring characters (not sure about assets).
If they knew your password because you had given it to them at some stage, then it would be your fault and CCP would not do anything. Accounts and/or passwords aren't meant to be shared according to the EULA.

Kill him, make him suffer.
I'm surprised your friend didn't sell them, unless he never played in which case I recommend you do the first thing I suggested along with several other things that will cost him $$ that can't be traced back to you and of course aren't illegal.

Yea this is what I'm hoping. Its not exactly hacked in that my information was stolen through some email scam or something I guess but it is unauthorized entry. I mean hell, if I wanted to erase the guy I would have at least dumped all my assets outside of Amarr station or something more interesting.
Hell someone could have had my stuff if I wanted to give up eve. Could of had some fun with it at least.
This is a sh**ty way to go tbh.

I've had a deleted character revived by the GM's, in a hunt for some lost corp shares. They renamed him with numbers in the end of his name but other than that it was like he never had been deleted.
Good luck.

Yea so will I.......... if anyone ever answers. You'd figure petitions in the EULA category titled "Unauthorized account access" or "Hacked" or "Stolen" or some variation thereof would get someone's attention and at least warrant a response of some sort.

Edited by: LIOZTH on 09/02/2010 20:23:49 From the vantage point of someone in IT:
Although I tend to agree the characters themselves are probably gone from the database itself. This is not to say CCP could not restore at all.
The reason for this is that by and large (most) databases (Oracle, MySQL, SqlServer, PostGres) are normally backed up on a regular basis.
I'm currently a DBA/SYSADMIN, and work on a number of different databases. On our primary production database we have a tiered approach to backing up data, in that we use a primary FLASHBACK area where changes can be rolled back as needed (this can be done on an individual record or the entire database if needed).
Secondly, we use archive logs to maintain a concurrent consistent snapshot of the database (even while it is running), thirdly we run exports on a scheduled basis, and finally we mirror backup data on an alternate data-center (CCP is most likely using magnetic storage of some sort, either tape, or a Fibre Channel SAN).
Our digital backups go back 10 years, so to say that the data is gone may be inaccurate (depending on their backup methodology of course) - as I said it is gone from the database itself, gone from the planet - highly doubt it, whether they will do a restore, this is up to CCP. I can tell you (at least based on the DB schemas I have seen, databases can vary and this could indeed be different for CCP) it should not be a difficult task for any junior DBA to restore this type of data at all, so I would think it to be rather poor form for them not to at least investigate your situation a little further.
Lots of luck!

Wow, I'm sure everyone here is impressed that you're a sysadmin, I don't think EvE attracts the computer nerds. Please tell us more about a life that most be oh so exciting that you have to talk about it on internet pixel spaceship forums.
Yeah, they could restore his data, but this guy admitted that he had given the guy access to his accounts which is a flagrant EULA violation. Then he goes to whine about it on the forums and is probably going to catch a ban for it. Good riddance.

You can get your chars back if you're presistent (but friendly) in your petition, but it all depends on when it happened. Has to do with the mirror they made for the test servers. If you're "gone" on Tranq but still exist on any of the test servers they can copy you back, minus any assets. just the bare character.
If you're past that then I don't know, either way I'm not so sure if your story will hold up or gather any sympathy at CCP so uhm... yeah.
