Assuming you can get a 100% refine at station.... Is anything lost in the refining of compressed ice products?
I'm trying to understand why compressed dark glitter is selling for less than dark glitter itself. With a 10:1 compression ratio one would think CDG would sell for 10 times the unit price.

If you're looking at buy orders - Buy orders will always look for "easy noob mistake profits" If the sale price of comp dark glitter is significantly lower, it would perhaps be worth to consider buying said compressed ore and refine it? :) -------------------------- 2 Years later, mining continues to be the most overlooked game mechanic in Eve |

I was looking at sell orders... but when you look at both CDG and DG sales there is little movement.... which says almost everyone processes their own.
The concern realy is weather there is some sort of refine loss for the CDG. Could refine the DG at a POS for 100% and ship the products via JF to empire for sale... Would rather compress and refine in empire. If there is some compression loss however that could be a big profit loss.

There is zero ore lost in the process. The reason you do it, is because POS refineries offer crappy yields, only giving maximum of 75% refine rate. Essentially, POS refining gives you 25% less minerals, while compressing the ore and shipping it to highsec (or other place) gives 100%. -------------------------- 2 Years later, mining continues to be the most overlooked game mechanic in Eve |

For ore yes. Ice can be refined for 100 % in pos also with reasonable skills even in small refinery. When you already compress it then it's reasonable also te refine it yourself in empire.

1 compressed ice (100 m3) = 1 uncompresed ice (1000 m3)
For DG and CDG you will usually still find their sell price higher than what you could get with a 100% refine and sold all the ice products via sell orders.
I chalk-up most stupid prices to sellers looking for marks that haven't done their homework. If you check the history, they often catch a few people too.

The compression is in volume, 1 unit of CDG has the same refine yield as 1 unit of DG, just 10x easier to move. Why the one is selling for less than the other, who knows. One would think CDG would get a premium for being easier to move about.

Just a question i dont think needed a new thread.
Does compressed ICE mean you can fit 10 times more ice in a POS refiner? Allowing a small refining array to fit 400,000m3 of ice?

Yes. Refining will overfill the array. It is okay to overfill, you just can't put more in until you take something out. I don't know if it all can be refined in a single cycle though.

It gets refined in a single cycle.
CDG trades for more than the value of the melted products because it is easier to move. DG does not trade. It is easier to haul to Jita refined than unrefined so nobody takes it there unrefined to sell. As a result anyone selling DG in Jita is either an idiot selling it for less than it is worth refined ( and so it gets snapped up quickly ) or someone looking for an idiot so they are selling it for more than it is worth refined ( so it sits there for some time ).
