Seems best to shield tank this and fill the lows with damage mods tracking enhancers and pdus, does that sound about right?
Anyone got any solid setups for the mach vs angels, i was thinking 800mm repeating artillery tech 2 guns.

This is what I used, very much overtanked but I like it that way. Will need scout at the gates though.

This. Plus, sometimes gates are far away, and sometimes rats are out of range. Doesn't matter if you're falloff is huge, the closer you are the better your damage.

With my machariel pilot's skills I get 3km optimal and 36km falloff with EMP ammo (no TE/TC modules) and 800mm 'scout' guns with a base speed of 201m/s. The ship, and my pilot for it, needs an afterburner. The fact that it shortens trips between gates, shortens times to distantly spawned rats, and also works as a tank module, though the loss of the tracking bonus is something of a pain here, as others have pointed out are just the icing on the cake.

The funny thing is that the ship isn't cap-stable, even with the vampire running at 100% efficiency which will likely be close to impossible. Without the vampire the whole shebang runs for 6.5-7 minutes non-stop. Unless general opinions have changed over the last 3-4 months since I seriously played the forum game I believe enough capacitor capacity to run everything for 3-4 minutes is considered adequate and 6-8 minutes good.
Personally, since I switch tanks based on mission needs and dislike penalties, stacking or otherwise, I tend to prefer CCC rigs myself. Granted that gun rigs don't matter with regards to the tank the facts that they fall victim to both stacking and rig-based penalties makes their maximum benefit seem lower than that of CCC rigs. Though truth be told after the loss of the tracking speed bonus from the machariel (this actually felt like a nerf, not a buff, to me) the tracking rigs do look appealing. /shrugs
