Odd question, what do you name your ships.
I kinda name all my gallente ships after gambling terms like,
Royal flush
lucky 7
craps etc
and my amarr ones I name after ancient egyptian references and egyptian cities.
Memphis,
Luxor
Hathesput
LoLegion
so what are some of your names?

Norse mythology:
Valkyrie, Einherjar, Heimdall, Odin, Freya, etc.
There's so many to choose from I haven't yet reused any of the names.

I only fly Gallente ships and I don't really have any theme. I just named them something that seems to fit their role, appearance, and/or the general Gallente naming style.
My dominix is named Monolith. My myrmidon is named Blade. My hulk is named Messis (latin for harvest or something along those lines). My salvager destroyer is named Scavenger. My navitas for running courier missions quickly is named Courier. My helios is named Seeker.
I don't go for silly names ('teh pwnerat0r'), and I try to avoid naming them after popular sci-fi ships (ie: 'Battlestar Galactica') but other than that, I just come up with a name that I think fits.

I always name my ships after stargates.
Generally it will be the stargate of the system I am currently in [e.g. Stargate (Dodixie)] or a system I have lived in in the past.
It provides me with a fast, simple naming convention, and may result in the odd person trying to scan me down missing me if they are not paying enough attention.

I name a few of mine after my wow character in this fashion, i.e. my Ravens are called Ituhata's Grace, my Drake's are called Ituhata's Tail, etc. etc. I may begin doing all my ships like this but for now its just those two. When I get something like a HAC or AF i may name that Ituhata's Fury. I has originality. 
My EWAR ships are usually named Silence.
My Caracals will forever be named Pol's Voice.

Most often I name my ships after real objects; if I can't think of anything suitable I go with the name of something in-game.
Around 8 times out of 10 it is a name of something sitting on my desk at the time.

Amarr: Angel names, there are enough for them fitting every ship role and size. For example Colopatiron, Kakabel or Kushiel.
Gallente: A combination of a mineral and some character class, like Jade Monk or Obsidian Knight, few exceptions, like this itty named Omber Snail.
Minmatar: Usually a combination of a disease or scavenger combined with some activity, like Carrion Crawler or Golgothian Devourer.
Caldari: Simple. Some metal and an insect, like Chromium Butterfly or Iron Mantis.
Makes it easier to come up with names that aren't all too boring.

Many people have met thier fate at the hands of The Pwnmobile 3.0, my Thorax. Altho the previous 2 editions of The Pwnmobile have been scrapped (by pirate ships with lazers on them), the 3.0 version just cant lose. Also The Love Boat, my Dominix seems to do pretty well.

I go for some of the most idiotic, non-sensical and stupid names I can think of. A few examples:
Myrm = "Facist Bastard"
Myrm = "Western Decadence"
Vexor = "The Dirty Hippie"
Vexor = "Fluid Transfer"
Domi = "The Dirty Gromet"
Domi = "Big Ugly MoFo"
Atron = "WillWork4Food"
I have even changed the name of a ship in mid-warp while in low-sec hoping to confuse a pursuer. There is a very good reason why my bio warns people of my ability to improve their killboards.

Most of my ships end up named whatever I feel like at the time. The more guns on them, the more likely to be something such as "The Negotiator", "The Ambassador", "The Diplomat" and "Public Relations".
Saying that, I also have a tendency to name ships things like "Hell's Catflap" and, whenever I feel like darting about like an idiot in an Incursus, it has to be named "Jousting Snowmobile".

My Minmatar ships tend to be named after various types of shark.
There are some variations in this naming convention, depending on inspiration.
eg. the interceptor I use as a shuttle is named "LOGANSR1".
Salvage Thrasher is called "Jammy Dodger"
Savage 'Cane is called "Jammy Dodger II"
My Raven is "Quoth The"
One of my Drakes is "Papa he‘e nalu"

I often go with some play on the name of ship type.
Such as:
Raven - Corax (Corvus Corax is latin for Raven)
Cormorant - Black Shag (which is a cormorant, really)
Caracal - ***** Galore (it's a cat after all)
Drake - Mallard (well, it's a duck)
Hulk - Jennifer (it's a ship, so it's a she, ergo a she-hulk, so Jennifer Walters ;))
Blackbird - Oxcart (name of the project leading to (A12) SR71 Blackbird)
And more stupid dog latin / geek names like that ;)

Mine tend to have a theme for each ship type. For example, my Vexor cruisers I use for combat are all called the Argos Vexor [Greek Letter] (where the letter changes up every time I get blown up and replace the ship). My mining ships are called the Rockhammer [letter], where the letter is the initial of the system that ship is based in.
I called a Tristan Isolde once, because I didn't have the willpower not to.
My cargo haulers are the River King (because I was thinking of a song about riverboats at the time) and Tuggy the Tugboat (because I am, in fact, five).

See, this is a naming convention I can wrap my head around. Names like "Gutter ****", "Swamp Donkey", "Pocket Tosser", or "The Angry Carnie" ring true to me.

Nope. A corpie is always in the ROU/LROU something or other.
I tend to just name my ship after a song. Sometimes it's random and whatever is playing. Sometimes it's a particular song that fits the ship.

On my industrial alt, my Obelisk's name is Fat Bastard, lol.
On my mission running alt, my favorite is CNR named 'Wet Dream". Also, I had a Drake with that alt named 'Quack Attack!".
On my main, when he would fly Cyclones, they were always Ghetto Cruiser and numbered accordingly as I had to replace them, lol. Such as Ghetto Cruiser I, Ghetto Cruiser II and so on.
I have a lot of other ships with tons of names, but not going to get into all of them. Just shared some of my favorites.
