I have a theory or possible connection (and yes add my name to the list of people who can't warp away from a station). In exodus the sun is occluded by ships regardless of the setting you might have! I noticed this one of the few times I was flying about. The ship clearly occluded the sun. We've all known for a long time this feature can cause problems on many machines and most of us have it turned off (those of us with problems anyway).
Anybody have a suggestion on how to return this "feature" back off?

Originally by: Karnie For everyone with this problem, please calm down and take a breath or 2. I was having this problem too and I came to the conclusion its lag. My computer is fast enough and totally up to date. The only reason the game is messing up is due to the freakingly high amount of lag right now. PC specs below.
AMD 3200+ 64 bit 1 gig of DDR 2700 FX 6800 ultra latest drives and version of DX9
Curious, how does lag cause a program to terminate itself or lockup a program to the point that the PC must be rebooted. I don't know what your problems were, but mine are definately NOT lag.

OK, I am now 100% sure this is what's causing the problem, at least for me. How do I know? I have 2 accounts that I run on 2 different installs on the same machine. On one account I have the problem described above (sun occluded not working properly) and on the other I have no problems.
I ask again, anybody have a suggestion on how to make it so that sun occluded is actually turned off and remains so?

Will somebody please tell me if they've checked into their own "sun occluded by ships" setting?!?

Although nobody seems to care I've gotten more stability on my one eve install which was exhibiting this problem and it was precisely the "sun occluded by ships" setting.
On the install that didn't have this problem I found this line in prefs.ini: sunOcclusion=1
While the install that did have this problem had: sunOcclusion=0
This apparently overrode the setting from the Esc menu. I've changed the setting in the prefs.ini for the install which had the problem and I haven't had a station-exit warp away lockup since.

I went into prefs.ini and serched for "sun", when I found the setting I made the change. I've noticed a few times, even with the prefs.ini setting and the 'esc' screen both having sun occlusion turned off I STILL GET SUN OCCLUSION! You know what happens when I still get it? The game crashes when I try to warp away from a station.
BTW, for those of you who don't know what sun occlusion is: It is a graphic feature which makes the sun fade, and be blocked out if you move the camera so that your ship blocks the sun. It's really pretty when it works, but from day one sun occlusion has caused problems for many vid-cards. Even vid cards that have no problem with it get a frame rate hit with it turned on.

To turn off press escape then untick "Sun Occluded by ships" Its on the general (left hand tab from memory. All it does is when your ship passes in front of a sun it doesnt block the light :)
Don't forget to change the setting in prefs.ini. The problem with the latest shiva patch has been the "Sun Occluded by ships" setting on the esc menu is being overridden. I had the setting turned off on the esc menu and was getting this lockup issue. It was not until I found the setting in prefs.ini and changed it that stability returned.
Also I have noticed (as stated previously by me) that occasionally the game still exhibits sun occlusion even with the prefs.ini and esc menu showing the setting being turned off. If this is the case I close eve before it has a chance to close on me. Quitting the game is faster than the lockup/ctrl-alt-del/endprocess cycle. I have yet to have this setting turn on in the middle of a gameing session, so the first time I exit a station I check to see if the light from the sun is blocked by my ship. If not I continue gamming, quite happily I might add. If it does, quit and restart eve.
I am personally 100% convinced that sun occlusion is the problem. It looks nice, and I wish it worked, but it is far more important that I can actually play the game.

I've had a ressurection of this problem. Now, no matter what I do sometimes the client insists on starting with sun occlusion setting. This is getting REALLY frustrating. I wish a word from CCP on this would be forthcomming.
EVERY time I have sun occlusion my game hangs, without fail, 100% repeatable. The only thing I can't reproduce is WHY the client will sometimes start with sun occlusion and sometimes not. I'm at my wit's end.
