I am in a position of buying either a Moa or Rupture but I am not sure as to which is the correct one for me.
I like to use proj weapons but from the description the Rupture doesn't get a damage mod bonus just a velocity bonus. Is this correct? I am not that keen on hybrids and so if I had a moa I would use proj instead.
I have no wish to pvp but want a ship that can give me the stats to fight back(obviously skills and such matter but I would train the approprite ones up).
I like the Ruptures balanced armour/shields/structure but not sure about the lower cpu. The 5 low slots I also like.
The Moa has good all round stats but...its a hybrid ship.
For npc hunting but able to defend oneself from player pirates which is the better ship? Skills are not really a problem nor items because I can get them in time.

I'd say the extra mid slot in the Moa would tip it for me.
Low slots are great for kicking out the damage, but mid slots are the life savers.
Shied boosters, shield hardeners, ABs or MWD, ECM/ECCM.
Just my personal preference....

I think you would know your own situation better than we would, so ultimately you are going to have to make that decision yourself.
Personally, I would not be afraid of putting projectiles, on a Moa. While the built-in bonus does make hybrids a bit better, the truth is that you can still do better with projectiles than hybrids. If you consider the fact that Moa has 750 power grid, then you can mount at most 2 250mm railguns, which take 300 power each, or you can shoehorn in 3 650mm artillery at 250 power each. Now mind you, I don't think either of these two configurations are a good idea, but it gives a good picture of how the power grid gets sliced up.
When the time comes, I personally will be aiming for the Moa, not because of any built in bonus, but because it is the most protected fighting cruiser out there. But maybe you'll find the speed of the Rupture better protection. It's up to you.

LOL, 2 250mm hybrids? I got 4 on my MOA. Just gotta train your skills and put some of the 1337 loot co-pros on it. I have 2 that give a 26% boost each. Then you have the Missile launchers. 6 high slots. Cruise missiles and 4 250mm loot hybrids are hard to match.
But the truth is the ship at the top of my list, if you are willing to do all the skill training, is the Thorax. 2000m3 drone bays. Train all your drone skills plus lvl 5 on drones and buy/loot some heavy combat drones and you will be owning all.
(oh, but right now I am using anode whatever blasters. They do way better dmg then proj or 250mms. But you have to get with in like 8km to do 200dmg hits. (dmg mods) But the 2 launchers of cruise missiles make up for the bad range. I am still ****ed about the MWD crap)

Actually, as nice as Anode Ions are, the Dual 425 Scout still hits harder, even on an MOA. Plus it has the advantage of Range. I personally don't think Short Range weapons are seriously viable without the use of a MWD. As for the Thorax, IMO the MOA is superior. At least in a 1v1 situation.
Now the Rupture is a nice craft, and I would definitely have chosen it over the MOA if it had a Proj damage bonus. Since it doesn't I'll stick to the MOA. I don't know how I'd manage with only 3 med slots anyway. I find it hard enough with only 4.

8 heavy combat drones are 88dmg/2sec when they reach target ;)
1 250mm Gauss is 180-310 in a "normal" conf each 3sec.

If you want to defend yourself in PvP, you have to go with the Moa's 4th medium slot.

Since you prefer NPC hunting over PvP, Rupture might be a better choice.
300 cargo vs 250 (moa); more loot space. 150 max speed x 1.15 (ship skill speed bonus) = 172 vs 155 (moa); moe speed to pick up loot. 5 low slot v 4 (moa); cargo expander for more loot! 600 drone vs 250 (moa); miners when pirates not spawned.

Well the MOA has the option of h-50 launchers. If you have your missile skill up to lvl 5 then you might wanna consider the advantages of cruise missiles or using torps. A combination of torps, 2 webs, and 1 warp scrambler will doom anyone you engage.
Also if you wanna go with the all out turret option the MOA can equip 4 250mm hybrids plus 2 missile launchers. A total of 6 high slots that all can do some dmg. You will need to hae at least lvl 4 eng and some extremely rare loot reactors that give a 26% boost to your pwr grid.

For offence, Maller is the best cruiser, for defence, MOA is the best. Nobody can match maller's 6/3/6 slots and largest power grid of cruisers when offence considering.

Rupture for the WIN!
2x DUal180mm with EMP-M, 2x with PP-M. All damage classes covered. Rockets are Gremlins and Thorns.
So far I have 11 kills with this ship in PvP.
With my skills the Dual180mm have a RoF of 1.3 seconds with normal hits in the 40-70 range. Wrecking hits have been for over 200. The tracking on the Dual180mm is so good, a Tracking Computer is not needed.

Katanga is your call. Personaly I like Rupture. You can do really good armor tank on rupture even with mediocre skills and autocanons while for Moa shield tank is all the way and if you don't have the skills is little harder to survive.

That's what tipped me off. That was a devastating gun, back when named kit had non-standard sizes.
I had a 3 of these bad boys plus another named artillery on a Rupture back then. It was UGLY
