Wow...
Well I know I personally wouldn't hold private chat logs against someone unless it was blatant scam planning or something. I talk (type) far more loosely when I don't think it's going to be made part of the "public record".

Dethmourne,
If you're all clean and have an excuse for everything, then why not push on with the fund?
Deth needs a reason right now to avoid getting an audit for this. Wonder why?
It just works out to be a great excuse for him that I came along.
You should have just paid the money. This seems a lot worse.

Really, Riethe made me re-examine whether I was even enjoying the game; so in a sense, he's done me a favor. Debt has kept me from engaging in egregious PvP and forced me to worry about making ISK instead of losing it, so burning off my debt and remaining out of debt will be enjoyable insomuch as I will be able to do crazy things like gank proteus. --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

Riethe, I'm at a bit of a loss. Perhaps I'm just too naive to understand the criminal mind.
Why the blackmail attempt, for a measly 200 million? Certainly that's not a large sum for you, is it? Was it simply another opportunity to wring some ISK from someone? If it was for the benefit of the MD crowd, why not simply post the information you had?

It is a great excuse, because at this point most of MD will agree that getting an audit done would just mean to conform to the rules of some extortionist bully.
The Right Thing to Do(TM) can be completely wrong if it plays into the hands of the wrong people.

What is "this" referring to?
The fact that people tell Dethmourne that letting you dictate his actions was not a wise decision?
Somehow I seem to have missed the massive public outcry that is currently undermining Dethmourne's reputation...
But gratz for trying to blackmail Dethmourne without himself knowing what compromising material is backing up the blackmail.

More importantly, why has he still not posted it?
IMO: What he has will not impact the MD opinion of Deth as much as he believes, and thus he has not revealed his hand. As the cancellation of the bond issue will always be brought up in future arrangements by Deth the threat will not work a second time. And if this was to be a massive scam by Deth (though i do not believe it was), why ask for so little, when he could have asked for significantly more?
On another note: As a scare tactic this worked exceptionally. As a scam or blackmail, it produced no funds.

To be honest I am of the mind that Deth just didn't want to get an audit done because he's not doing as well as he's led folks to believe. I don't think it has anything at all to do with Reithe. To be honest cancelling the bond because of Reithe's threats does more, in my mind, to harm Deth's rep than had Deth just gotten an audit and moved forward with the bond and let Reithe post whatever the hell he wanted.
Fact: Reithe is a known scammer. Scammers lie. Nobody in their right mind is gonna take anything he says at face value.
Fact: It's obvious that Deth didn't want to get an audit done. Why? Anyone's guess. But the refusal to get an audit did more to harm his rep than anything that Reithe could possibly post on forum threads. Bottom line: Asking for a 4% non-secured loan with no audit, no collateral, no nothing? It was bound to draw questions. Obviously these were questions that Deth didn't want to answer.

I don't consider 200 million to be measly.
ISK receives its value not from how many digits there are, but how much time was spent to earn it.

???
Originally by: Cyaxares II In this light it's understandable that Riethe is currently a little bit frustrated (and avoiding to bring forth the compromising material).
I love when people decide what emotions I'm experiencing. By the way, I think the current turn out is way cooler than actually getting the ISK.

Why does it matter what impact I believe it will have? That's completely irrelevant. All that matters is what impact Deth will believe it has. Are you really this slow?
Clearly Deth has some pretty hardcore secrets to just shut it all down at the first bad sign. Or, he's ran his ventures so poorly that he considers them "debt" and not "ISK printing machines" and it's become far too stressful.
My current impression is that Deth was not interested in getting an audit--so he took advantage of the fact that I brought this up and used it as an excuse to cancel everything. Thus a good way to avoid the audit altogether (though it might still be wise to push him for an audit to show the current state of everything.)
Either way, this reaction is incredibly interesting. Far more extreme than I anticipated. Why not just ignore me? Carry on? If you're clean, why does it matter? There's more to this than just me. Consider that.
Lately there's been a pretty big thing about getting some MDers and members of my corporation, Bobby's corporation, and SRS alliance together for PVP. All of these guys who have spent so much time sitting in high sec doing boring stuff are beginning to realize how much fun EVE is with a nice fleet and a good FC. Maybe Dethmourne included.
edit: Taram got his post in while I was working on mine,

I agree with this. He is either performing very poorly, or there are other behind the scenes activities going on that will look bad.

Taram, I stated I would get a bond after folks requested it - and honestly I don't mind getting one done still, even though there will be no bond. My initial lack of interest in the bond was, as stated, due to a lack of time. I still don't have the time for long conversations with an auditor, but I can certainly get an audit done wherein my business plan doesn't matter (and thus minimizing the actual conversation time needed). --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

Then why shut the whole thing down just because Reithe acted like... well... reithe... He's a scammer... NOBODY here really cares what he has to say ;)
I fail to understand the logic of continuing to operate under two loans @ 7% when you could just get an audit done to prove you're profitable and then the 4% would be palatable to most.
Thus allowing you to refinance your 'debt' down to be less drain on your profit, opening you up to do the pvp you apparently want to while still allowing you to pay off your debt.
I just don't understand your logic in this at all and slamming the whole thing shut because Reithe decided to pick on you just seems fishy.

Dethmourne, I wouldn't hold it against you if you just completely walked away from this, but if you wanted to get an audit to set things straight, I'd be more than happy to pay for it.
I'm sure you can afford it yourself, but I wouldn't want to add insult to injury in making you pay for an audit for a bond you're not issuing because of some malicious little punk's lame blackmail attempt. I think this is complete bull**** and I'd be happy to help out.
This is probably our fault anyways. We, as a community, probably weren't paying enough attention to Riethe, thereby causing him to act out.

The reason I decided to walk away from the bond is because I'd rather just burn a month or two at my existing outstanding loans and get rid of them. There's no reason to bother with the refinance for only 1-2 month's interest. My initial intent (and cause of bond) was to refi and then maintain the loan for a significant period of time - as I'm no longer interested in doing that, the extra interest over a month is not significant enough to really be arsed with. --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

Liberty - to be honest, better than you paying for an audit would be if you could return that loan I made you early (with the interest reduced as appropriate). That way I could just dump it on a few of my current debts.
(For those who will ask why I lent money while owing debt - LE offered a significantly higher rate of return than I was borrowing at). --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

No problem - I can give you 15% interest as we are halfway through the month if that's ok with you? Might need an hour or two to shift some stock around. Total repayment is 500 mil + 15% (75 mil) = 575 mil

No, Riethe is vague. He alludes to the "long-term" scams and claims that every thread and every reaction is part of a larger plan. You're left to fill in the blanks. And the more unconnected all his threads, comments and "offerings" seem, the more people attribute it to his "genius."
Rather than imagining his grand plans, look at the tangibles. One successful scam a long time ago - a scam after a smaller offering, which is done all the time in here, both as scams and as legit offerings - and a collection of two-bit Jita-local quality scams on his site.
Everyone on here demands audits to prove people's trading claims when they ask for a bond, so why is Riethe any different. I want to see some proof that scamming prowess before I lend him any credibility.
Yeah, I'm ranting here, but this one really ****ed me off. Some like to say scamming is just a profession, there's an art to it, it makes things interesting, blah blah blah. I don't agree with them but fine. But this? Blackmail and character assassination (he tried this crap with Breaker77 in the audit fund thread too)? This is pretty ****ing low. Rep is pretty hard to come by in MD. You ask for too much, you're scamming, you ask for a lesser amount, you're setting up for a scam down the road. The rep here is fickle enough and Riethe wants to take away what Dethmourne has built up. For what? 200 million? Pathetic.
You want to steal people's ISK, I don't agree with it but not everyone sees that as immoral in this game. But this little stunt is akin to griefing and I think it crossed the line.

To be perfectly fair, it's been pointed out that my rage-"screwthis****" response was perhaps exactly what Riethe was after... but I've realized that debt is, unless absolutely necessary, more of a hassle than it's worth.
And someone stated something about an ISK printing machine - which I've never claimed to have. I believe VV's last audit (I've evemailed him requesting an update audit be done, if possible) showed I make somewhere around 11-12%, which with my current debt left me very low on actual return for myself. Hence the desire to refi to a lower rate - but the hassle of doing so was, to me, worse than the hassle of just paying off investors asap. --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

probably on the mark there. About a month back a client which shall remain unknown made a contract hit on Deth while he undocked outside Jita blowing up Abaddons for his insurance fraud scheme. On 11 Jan this contract was fulfilled by a shadow agent by the name of Kimberleigh when deth's pod was popped right outside Jita 4/4 after he self-destructed his Abaddon. API verified kill on that is available for all to see on battleclinic. After that through add book we did not see deth online for quite a number of days leading up to a few days or more. Lol. Sorry, I gave up on +5s when I podded myself -to- Esoteria. I lost maybe 80m in implants.
As I've stated (though perhaps not on this forum) I work for a company whose primary business is done from january to april - perhaps that's why you didn't see me online as much?
Also, my main quit doing insurance fraud - I have an alt for that.
I also have an alt for trading.
So it's not like Dethmourne not logging on necessarily means I didn't log onto eve - I log on at least once/day on my trader. --------------------------------- Regarding high-sec mining:

Since Riethe's post this has been a no-win situation for Dethmourne.
Option 1: Pay off Reithe - Crappy option for a lot of reasons. (What would've stopped Reithe from talking about the successful blackmailing and thereby raising the same suspicions about Dethmourne already raised?)
Option 2: Ingore Reithe and continue with the refi - Again the posting by Reithe, weather he had incriminating chat lots or not, would've been enough to set off the same speculative poop storm of mistrust in Dethmourne. Although continuing with the refi may have done less damage due to skepticism in Reithe's word.
Option 3: Cancel refi - Resultant speculative poop storm.
Honestly if Dethmourne continues to payout interest payments and doesn't bolt with everyone's isk out of shear aggravation at the situation, I don't think anyone should get too wound up over this.
Lesson learned seems to me that if you're ever going to be involved with handling other peoples money or asking for any kind of trust don't ever talk to a guy named Reithe or any like him regardless if it's just idle chat. --------------------------------

You forgot option 4: close the bonds at higher interest rate even if it's more bothersome, THEN eventually start a new one at 4%.
The choice of refinancing debt can be done in several ways. One of them - chosen for this bond - is not going to be popular. By starting multiple high interest bonds to consolidate paying less into a new one, you give out the impression that you:
1) did your homeworks too quickly, and find out you can't really afford paying the due and thus try a quick way out. This can be a smart solution, but it comes off a not smart initial choice and investors will notice that.
Now, the investors in this specific case cannot really single out and blame DM, as his profit % was published in advance.
2) are going too fast with the "rep game". By following this more and more used mechanism of refinancing on the run, a bad "reverse Ponzi" habit can occur. Generalizing out of DM's case (because he's FAR from being the first and FAR from being the one doing the most of it), a guy starts investments and becomes "legit". Then halfway, once "cashed in the rep", he refinances. This is a stepping stone mechanism a sort of hidden Dutch Auction. The thing can and has been pulled out more and more frequently but sooner or later if the investee is not seen as Holy Saint Grail or when the stepped down interest drops below an accepted thresold (varies with investee fame) then investors start to scoff.
Now, while refinancing is a viable and often a smart method of finance play, I think its getting somewhat inflationed and should slow down.
3) investors also get slapped in their face, because they pick an investee basing on advantage, but halfway the run, said investee "short sells" their advantage and reproposes a worse deal. "I chose that guy offering a long term 6% over the other offering short term 5% and now the former refinances at short term 4%". - Auditing and consulting
