This is for sakes of both balance and realism for Armor Tanks.
As it is right now, when you use an armor repairer you get a large boost to armor then nothing added for a while, then another boost.
What I propose is for an active armor repairer to continuously repair your ship over time, instead of incremental boosts.
I believe it would make active armor tanking better in PvP because you would be able to recover faster from getting shot at. And it would be more realistic because the drones don't instantly repair a ton of armor then disappear, they are slowly repairing constantly.
What do you guys think? __________________________

An interesting idea, and one I would support if the game had just come out.
Alas, this far down the line, it would upset a finely tuned balance. Probably not worth the risk. ------ "Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure." |

I think lag might be an issue.

Edited by: Epegi Givo on 22/02/2010 04:59:10 so you believe that armor repping is balanced as it is now in PvP? In PvE it will not make much of a difference, but in PvP it can. And any experienced PvP player will tell you about how borked active taking is in PvP.
Also what do you guys think should happen for shield boosters? Because they already have a very low recharge time and it makes more sense for them to be small boosts to shield instead of a recharge bonus.
Originally by: d3vo I think lag might be an issue.
It would be similar to shield recharge times, which would create just as much lag as this. __________________________

Instead of 'continuous repair' just decrease the cycle time for the modules and decrease cap drain proportionally. As well as get rid of the lag on module activation.

having a much lower activation time would have a good effect, so I would agree with that.
What should the activation time be? I am thinking every 2 seconds would be good. __________________________

You guys clearly missed the fact that there is no such thing as "continuous" in the digital world. The guy who suggested shortening the cycle time and cap usage accordingly has the only "solution" to such a hope. Of course, if that was to be done, the amount of hps repped per cycle diminishes accordingly, to get the desired effect.
However, I would have to say no. In fact, it is the current cycle timers which allow some measure of RR in fights. Cutting the cycle timers short means more clogging of the networking traffic - no thank you.

active tanking in pvp is fine, the only reason ppl say its not fine is cause buffer tanks works better in gangs.
i pvp with active tank all the time without any issues

I was actually thinking something like this in regards to both active shield and armoring tanking. Like with shield it would give a great boost to recharge at the expense of cap, similarly to armor. I don't think it would cause great stress on the server as it would act almost exactly like current natural shield recharge, except you add cap to the mix in the same way (just negative cap).
I actually like it, don't know too much about balancing issues (not my forte) but it seems interesting and do-able.

i think shield recharge also has a cycle time.
