That's a lot to work with? You didn't even mention what weapon, what sized weapon, what enemy, or anything else. It all depends on variables.

General rule of thumb is the best ammo is that which is outgoing... incoming ammo tends to mess up your day if you're not careful.

The point these gents are trying to make is that it all depends on what weapons you're using (and to a less degree your skills.) Different ammo has different attributes, such as bonus' to range etc - not to mention that you can only use certain ammo types with certain weapons.
Post up what ship you're flying, what guns/launchers and what you're using it for (missioning, ratting, PVP etc.)

I dunno why these clowns are trying to mislead or poke fun at you, but by far the best ammo is VOID. It kills everything! SHort range, long range, frigates, cruisers, everything. Vaga's melt to it, thannies melt to it. It has amazing tracking and range.
As an added bonus, with an onlined tracking computer in your mids you can even fit it on any t2 weapon. Void precision missiles are my favorite against frig gangs. And void ammo in citadel launchers makes any POS jockey cry. T2 artillery with void ammo has the best alpha in EVE.
I was flying an ares, and a void fitted rifter popped my ass from 28km away. I was ****ed, that's when i started using void.
It's only downside is people ask that you don't use it, because CCP hasn't nerfed it yet.

As far as damage types go, I like to lean towards EM and Explosive damages. This won't work in all cases, of course, but in the majority of the fights, if I don't know what the enemy is tanked for, balancing the two extremes is a decent option. I almost always aim for more than one damage type. "Putting all your eggs in one basket" can bite you in the ass.
So...for all you Amarr pilots flying a geddon, you could go with 7 Mega Pulse IIs/Dual Heavy Pulse IIs using faction Multifrequency + 5 Berserkers. That would be an example of mixing damage types fairly effectively. That is, if you chose to use non-sentry drones.

For missiles I prefer the Tomahawk missile, good range of roughly 2,500km so you can hit anything thats on grid and plenty of targets off grid.
Projectile ammo I would have to go with 7.62mm M61 rounds, does good against light armor and enough range for on grid targets.
As for lasers, haven't had much experience with them but I saw a video of the Photonic Fence laser shooting down targets with ease, those mosquitoes didn't have a chance against it.
If you fly Gallente stick with UAV's, I have watched some cool vids of drones being used in combat and they sure can put down a lot of hurt while keeping you at a very safe distance.
