I am sorry to read all the crap the interface and the broadcast is getting from some people here.
Do you remember that last year there was no streams of the quantifying rounds at all? Just the finals were broadcast. So that is a 100% improvement this year over last year.
Good job CCP, Soundwave , production crew, commentators and all others making this possible. Thanx! Really appreciate it.
Anyways, I really enjoyed watching it and the interface works. I like to see whats going on and it also helps commentators, so great. Keep it in.

hey learn to take criticism better. just because some people think it could be better doesn't mean we are grateful, jezz. This happens every year and CCP make a few adjustments. I don't mind criticism. I do mind narcissistic whining. You don't have to be grateful but you can be. And that you are grateful doesn't mean that you can't make suggestions for what you think could be improvements. Good post on the extra thread you made on the subject.

Please give Bolton some ideas fixed that for you
Believe me, after having MB storm out of his hotel room at 5 am during fanfest in his underwear crying about needing sleep to the extreme that we would need to requisition him an ambulance immediately, I can state with some authority that you in fact do not want Bolton anything other than fully clothed. |

The only complaint I've heard that has any validity IMHO is that it is too hard to read the tactical inset, and it would be nice if it was popped up onto the main display much more often.
A version of the tactical which had colored flags on each ship that ID'd the team and ship type would be really nice; it would help the commentators explain the strategy a bit better. Hopefully for the finals they'll have control of what goes into the main panel. 1. Scrap the commentator cam for a bigger tactical overlay 2. Make blank white space transparent 3. ??? 4. Profit
That, and scrap the reversed shield/armor/hull hp, and textboxes. It's confusing as hell when each time you swap view from one side to the other, suddenly one team is bleeding hull before armor!
But yes, transparency, definately would help alot, and the commentator cam.. well I can see why CCP want to display them, but on the other hand, that doesn't need a 'framing' or alot of space eaten up around it either. It could just be popped up now and then in a corner, anywhere. shiptoastin' liek a baws |

Only real comments I have are the following;
- The ST/AR/SH then SH/AR/ST on the layout was quite confusing at first, was wondering why the hell they were taking Structure damage off the bat on the left side. Realized quick enough though.
- The countdown clock keeps breaking, saw it once on a 60 minute countdown, and blank a few times. WTB new timer?
- When first starting the stream I've notice a bit of graphic corruption, but this clears up quick enough ( with a few seconds ) ( Firefox 13.0.1, multiple different machines. )
- If you mute the sound, or have it to a almost silent level ( less than 5%? ), but not muted, when it's in fullscreen on a multi-screen setup, then click on the other screen, the feed falls out of fullscreen mode. Anyone else getting/noticed this?
- Related to the above, the audio sometimes seems to glitch out on the player, where you can mute it, try and increase the volume, and it won't increase, but the mute symbol indicates this is no longer muted. Clicking the mute button and then clicking to unmute seems to fix this.
- No mobile feed? Or am I missing something?
All in all, quite enjoying the show so far |

Like it. Will look better in 720p if that becomes the resolution for the group stages. I'm not a huge fan of mirroring the overview tables, and the typeface could be better, but it is a drastic improvement over previous years. |

I think the new info at the bottom of the screen is a nice addition this year. Basically what you get that's new this year is:
1) EWAR icons next to ships - Very Cool* 2) Speed of ships - Cool 3) Points cost of ships - Quite Nice 5) Lots of white space - :( 4) Webcam of commentators in bedrooms - Not Cool At All
* The ECM icon shows up whenever a bunch of ECM drones are assigned to a target, or whenever an ECM module is activated on a target, regardless of whether or not there is a successful jam. I would like to see CCP fix it so that the icon only shows on successful jams - currently it is even confusing the commentators (is that a shield boosting blackbird!?) let alone the viewers.
The tactical zoomed out tactical display is way too small, but I wouldn't want it to replace the main screen of srsbsns spaceship explosions.
My suggestion for layout would be to ditch the webcam box, move the team info to the extreme left and right, using white or light coloured text and bars on a transparent background (ie showing mostly dark space behind) and get rid of the blank white rubbish completely. Then use the extra space created in the centre for an enlarged visual of the tactical display. Maybe periodically cut away from the action for 5-10 seconds to show the tactical display (with ship labels) full-screen. |

I don't want to see John Motson when I'm watching the FA Cup final, and I don't what to see MBIII unless he is drunk on an alliance panel. Bringing the 'off duty' commentators in for the studio fills between matches worked fine last year - don't change it. Also bring back Shadoo at all costs.

That's just it, the window of the map and the guys face could be combined into one large image of the tactical view. check out my picture I made. it needs some work but yeah. Yes, like this! The white background here even works.
The new info is fantastic, it just needs a layout adjustment. The tactical view is 3.7x more useful than whatever random camerawork is being followed to show pretty lights. I'd rather see much more of the tactical view.
EDIT: Oh, and yeah, the mirrored shield/armor/structure readout was confusing. Don't do that. Bad UI team. Here's your sign... |

Right!! Get rid of that stupid **** at the bottom of the screen. It's pretty apparent that nobody likes it. The info is useful, but it can be displayed in a lot less screen eating manner. When I watch a football match , do I see the pundit's face? NO! And I don't want to see it on EVE tournament either - Who would... No need, no point. Honestly, what was wrong with the way it was before - it worked, and was a lot more true to the game.
If it ain't broke, dont' fix it.

The interface sucks. and so does the stream. granted i have another pc using the net for my kids but damn its like watching a still shot movie half the time. Never had this problem before. I also noticed alot less people viewing, wonder if it has anything to do with these issues.
ps: it doesnt matter if i lower the res/quialty/whatever you want to call it

I really dislike the new view, partly because I can't view it at a normal distance. On a 40" HDTV the text is too small unless I'm right on the screen, or I have to watch on a computer. At least before I could make out the ship icons at a normal distance and have an idea what the fleets are and whats happening. |

I think that may have made sense 5-7 years ago, but is a pretty narrow view of how internet content is viewed today. |

Tectonic Tetris wrote:why oh why would you mirror the overview thing Speaking as a former editor.. it's probably to keep your attention to the center of the screen. Look at a magazine.. have you ever noticed that pictures of people generally don't show them looking off to the edge of the page? They generally are facing the center of the page.. or facing other photos. The reason for this is that it keeps your focus on the magazine and not off to the edge of the page. Something similar seems to be happening here.. your eyes don't have to travel far.. and your focus is kept centered and not running off screen. I got used to it right away.. and with the layout (ship types and EWAR icons to the center) it makes sense. |
