No, you are implying that women can't enjoy Eve on their own if they are not dragged into game by men.

I started to play eve as it was recommended by a 'male' friend. He has since stopped playing as have all my other male friends who tried it. I have since got my husband mining for me seeing as he can't beat eve so he joined her. I once went on TS with a gang and they all started to giggle like school girls, there were alot of foreign speakers so then all started talking in wherever they came from and laughing alot. Consequently, I did not do TS after that much, no point really, they obviously did not take me seriously at all. more fool them i guess So I am nearly a 4 year old character on my main, I should be taken seriously now surely!
I am sure there are men on the internet, but usually late at night, in the dark in case their wife/gf/mother catches them, seeing as it women who rule the internet in the daytime.... now wheres that off switch for the power

There was some study by those clever types in one them universities, and they claimed that beer had female hormones in it of all things. Apparently they gave a group of blokes 10 pints each and after drinking that down they drove really badly and talked complete rubbish

I think every verified female I have ever met in EVE was either coaxed in by real life friends or entered along with a guild from another game. And they still play either with their original friends or with new friends they met in corps they joined along with old friends.
You have a very stereotyped view on females dude. :P --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In all seriousness, most of the chicks I know would probably quit Eve in the first day. The way most woman are raised the idea of spaceships, let alone internet spaceships just won't interest the majority. Hell, Eve hardly interests most MEN who try it and quit after a week or two. Eve is a very, very old game and in all honesty our subscription numbers blow.
(Not that I would change a thing, I like our 300k'ish subscribers and I don't think the game could even handle a real population explosion very well.)

Women typically being bad at something <> women not typically starting to play something without an IRL social reason to do so. Pretty straightforward logic failure on your part - it would make as much sense to draw the conclusion that the OP is attacking men for not having any friends that might persuade them to play Eve.
But I see everyone is having fun posting references to earlier threads, so np.
Oh and u mad?
I wasn't intending to suggest any equivalency there. Even though some recent studies suggest that women represent pretty much an equal or greater share of the overall gaming community (think casual games) the fact is that female players are a very small minority in the EVE community. Despite this though, suggesting that among the thousands of female EVE players (even if it's only a few), that not a single one ever came across the game and decided to play it on their own is either a stereotypically ridiculous concept or a satirical jest. Given the OP's comments in the past, I can only imagine it is the former. Of course it's not impossible that every single female player to ever play EVE started playing at the referral/request of male player, to seriously consider it to be true makes me think that the OP has some stereotypical mental concept of women going on in his head. I didn't want to say that outright in my original post, but now I have to bring it up in order to defend myself.
And no, I'm not mad. Thanks for asking!

I'm not even seeing what the big deal is really. If someone were to walk up and tell me Eve Online doesn't interest the vast majority of woman, I would hardly be surprised. I mean these girls are surrounded by pretty much nothing but dolls, pink, and fluffy **** all their lives and are pretty much coerced to feel that they have to like these "girly" things then why would we suddenly expect them to like a game like Eve Online?
In the same vein, I'm told all my life that I need to avoid deriving any joy whatsoever from anything girly and/or pink (eww pink). That to be taken seriously as a MAN I need to do manly things like watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (as a kid) and enjoy super awesome jets, fast cars and explosions. Logically, something like Eve would relate better to me than your typical female.
His original question as a broad statement is valid in my eyes, now of course their may be outliers, I mean their are ALWAYS outliers. But I would think that the majority of female Eve would be drawn to the game by male players for some reason or another and would be less likely to join on their own volition. Then again I myself have introduced Eve to well over a dozen people myself, though only two of those people being females and BOTH of which decided the game wasn't interesting to them (big surprise there).
Basically, anyone bashing this guy for asking this question needs to stop getting their panties in a bunch (SEEWHATIDIDTHUR?).

Eww pink.
In all due seriousness - you're right, this game isn't going to attract a lot of women, and will keep far fewer. But I think what really irritated me was the OP's supposition that we couldn't discover the game and like it on our own without encouragement from somewhere.
I didn't need anyone telling me it was ok for me to be good at math and science, or that it was alright for a girl to be a computer programmer. And I didn't need anyone to even tell me what the game was about before I wanted to try it.
Actually all they did was show me a screen shot of a couple of ships - I downloaded the trial on the spot and signed up for a full account 3 days later. Meh, it's not a big deal, but I think it was the underlying implication (intentional or not) of the statement that is causing the rancor this thread is displaying (my own included). --Vel
