Ehmà which FPS players are you talking about? I know plenty of people who have blown (admittedly minor) fortunes to get the latest hardware to get that extra frame rate for the FPS-du-jour. If it's console players you're talking about, Activision and EA would like a word with youà
Quote: If they wanted to FPS with a keyboard/mouse, they would use a PC It would be a severe case of fixing what ain't broke.
àor of fixing something that is largely broken: the lack of widespread M/KB support for console games. Seeing as how they're using UE3, and it has already shown to have excellent support for M/KB-gameplay on consoles, why not push that development? It's not as if that extra "controller" would be any more expensive than what an additional gamepad is, and the more game that support it, the more the reason to plunk down the minimal cash for a mouse+keyboard combo.
Quote: How are you going to set up a keyboard/mouse on a couch?
I don't know how your living room is arranged, but I have my console-connected keyboard and mouse on the table that sits in front of the couch.

They already have PC revenues, and want to avoid cannibalising on that by drawing cash from a completely different market. Granted, I've always found the "cannibalising" argument to be complete bunk, but the logic is clear enough. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

You're missing the point there. Console FPS's can "support" a keyboard and mouse but since M/KB is an incredible advantage over a gamepad, it no longer becomes an option. M/KB "support" makes makes a gamepad a laughable "option," so it's really M/KB "required." it? There is a reason the best competitive console FPSs don't allow M/KB support. Widespread M/KB would mean the death of gamepad FPSs. Is it possible M/KB becomes popular on consoles in the future? Maybe. Will CCP be able to start that trend? Not likely.
Quote: I don't know how your living room is arranged, but I have my console-connected keyboard and mouse on the table that sits in front of the couch.
I can put the mousepad on an end table and the keyboard on my lap, but it gets old fast. I'd rather hold a little pad on the couch, even if it means adjusting to a different kind of FPS play. You're making the assumption that console players want to use KB/M in the first place. It's not a matter of how you do it, or how I do it, or even how easy it is; launching a game from a widely unknown developer then demanding players rearrange their living rooms or buy peripherals just to play as intended is a recipe for failure. If DUST were to be released on PC, CCP would simply have to find a way to segregate the community (like CoD) and make make gameplay changes to compensate for the controls.

oh and L4D 1 and 2 has support for the Xbox controller on PC and it works great - however it's really noticeable in multiplayer if someone is using a controller, and they generally get pwned - unless they're in a hunter for some reason. The leap lends itself to the sticks pretty good.

I can't say I support it because of the less honest people who will attempt to hack or develop aimbots for it. While it's not completely terrible in most games, in general it's just extremely annoying to deal with on a regular basis. Not saying people on consoles can't try the same methods (mods), but it's less apt to happen on consoles then on the PC.
I would like it to be on PC too, but let's let CCP work out the game before asking for a port that would require many hours of tweaking to reduce the likelihood of cheaters. By the way, this is my signature.

valve has VAC for that. I think there's something similar in the UT3 engine.

though i will say that i do have concerns on how this dust514 is going to implement eve-online if you can easeirly just hire mercs to capture planets for you and how that could change soverity for 0.0 alliances. Kinda leaving the fate of certain things in the hands of 12 yrs olds on xboxs and ps3s

If a PC port is not available, I propose a wicked cool compromise... a la Starship Troopers style.
Allow me (the pilot) of a transport to talk to my marines (Dust console gamers). Stuff like this..
"Alright ladies, we're going in and the LZ is hot. Buckle your straps and grab your pukebags, 'cause we're in for a hell of a ride!"
=thundering roar of rifle butts on the floor=
"Marines! Up!"
I should be able to hear and see the guys pouring out of my transport ship in the middle of an Amarr versus Minmatar slaugterfest, watching their heads bob along outside my ****pit as rockets and such go flying left and right, small arms fire raking my hull, rocking out in space high above and shaking the crap out of my boys and girls in the hold...
Heck, I ought to get a toon named Rico for the epic "MI does the dying and fleet does the flying!".
 Warmly, "The Bear" JW

Discussions about dust always gives me the thrill after a .... working day.
Tbh, do you really give alot of pennies on a console shooter game which is only related to Eve by its backstory? There will never be a real significant interaction with EVE Online. Dust shall play a role in the market? If this market connection doesn't work CCP will intervene, if it works, so what, no difference. Letting Dust-players conquer planets which has an effect in EVE, well i would never give a good running internet spaceship game in the hands of ego-shooter players, what happens if it does not work, godfather CCP will fix it in the end, so no worry. What fun would it be for a shooterplayer to get busted from orbital bombardement by a 500 man fleet and your own fleet lags to death and can't help? bla bla bla and so on.......
You can't force different kind of playstyles to have influence on each other if not balanced perfectly. Balancing is hard enough in one single game. The bigger idea behind dust will always be a dream. You can play BF, CS or whatever, there are enough decent shooters on the pc market. If you're really keen on shooting minmatar slaves, then heck, buy a console and go for it.
Simple and easy, it's a try to get a foothold in the console market, fair strategy for a company with profit targets. If dust should really become a big hit, then a pc version is very likely, if not, is this really a great loss for the pc world? Maybe i don't see the bigger picture, but station walking may open my eyes
PS: Looking also forward to implement Guitar Gallente Hero in Alliance Tournament to give additional firepower.

TL;DR: Video gaming is dead.
PC gets new ****ty RTS, MMORPGs, and console ports. Consoles get a ridiculous amount of assists to compensate for lack of control. Both get 6 hour long politically correct designed-for-inbreds gameplay.
Conclusion: If you buy new games for full price, you're a sucker.

Firstly I have to commend CCP for wanting to bridge the divide between two different consoles and also create a direct link to pc gamers, its seriously a big and very unique step which in itself deserves all the praise in the world.
Secondly CCP what were you thinking producing a release based on the eve universe and excluding pc owners of Eve from joining in? Some of us have been here for over 7 years and paid a damn lot of money to your coffers, we should be included in this without a question of a doubt.
Lastly at least I have an xbox so the above rant is more for those who don't than myself.
Ps Dust is looking pretty damn awesome... will I be able to hire my own xbox character for large amounts of isk to give him a boost? Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.

Not sure if this has been answered already and sorry if it has, but arent PS3/Xbox consoles on totally different networks and cant see each other?
Only asking as I know people wth games like COD:MW2 with different consoles who cant play each other online due to having different consoles, so hows Dust going to get round that.
I'd like to see a PC Version as well

thats due to the versions for the consoles not being compatible to each other, for example most shooters on the console have smaller maps than the PC has. But there are other games which actually allow PC vs. Console, or Consoles vs. eachother allready.
Either way, personally i dont like the idea of some console kid, or 14 year old pc shooter gamer being the one who will make the decision about what happens with my planet.
imagine you hire a 14 year old merc, who then decides it would be fun to go on a team killing spree.
i'd rather see ccp rethink the idea of making dust influence eve, before even thinking about running it on whatever plattform.

Besides, I want to be able to enjoy watching them scream helplessly over their pathetic console microphones in their mothers' basement... not just see a white hot vaporizing explosion. Warmly, "The Bear" JW

cant we eve capsuleer's have a referendum on this?
also if dust 514 was on pc ccp would get battlefield players + counterstrike players + cod4 players to play dust 514 and even perhaps even entice a good portion of those to create an eve online account too so they can fund their dust 514 character. the potential for a lot of new players is being missed out on.
