If you pluralise in its original language, then you can't just ignore the extra bit when you translate. Bird and Birds mean different things, and you wouldn't just translate both as the singular (google tells me ichi-wa) now would you ? Failing that, and since that vast majority of people don't speak japanese (and so pluralising like that is likely to cause massive confusion), you treat tengu as a loanword and pluralise it as you would a normal english word, so 'tengus'. Same way you would order 'two black forest gateaus', and only the pretentious would pluralise as if it was still french 'two black forest gateaux'.
