I don't really see that ever happening. Taking and holding nullsec requires a different set of skills and outlook.
The best part about merc work is that every new job is, well- new. New people, places, stuff to shoot at... holding space would take that away.

It's true, and no one was more shocked than I.
However, the arrangement is a good one and hasn't affected our ability to get contracts or work. Prep for the Alliance Tournament is taking more time than managing the pocket ever did.

Some valid points in here and I'll try and answer them as best I can
Originally by: Vilgan Mazran Lots of ripping on noir. Pretty sure they'll accept contracts against nearby entities and the neighbors are likely aware of it. If you don't believe it, try and hire them to harass one of the provi holders.
Confirmed. That's the way our business worked, and still works. I won't lie to you, there may well be some entities in EVE that we won't dec, but that's ALWAYS been the case and the list is remarkably small, despite some people's insistence to the contrary
Originally by: Vilgan Mazran The kicker is, now that you are in null... you can make soooo much more money by NOT taking contracts. Why go rep a pos or harass a corp or whatnot for 100 mil isk/person/week (or whatever is paid) when everyone involved can make that in 2-3 hours in null? Why generate income for the corp via a contract clearing off a moon, when clearing a moon for yourselves will generate significantly more? There will be those that continue to do it for the rep, for the RP, for non financial reasons. However, they are (imo) likely to be the minority.
I don't think Noir is going to explode into a fiery ball. But I think they will start to have motivational issues down the road. People who'd rather make 10x the isk in the 0.0 than out on contracts. People applying to join Noir that are interested in the sov and see the taking contracts thing as a necessary evil. People suddenly get "busy irl" when a long boring contract pops up but have plenty of time when Noir isn't on a contract.
The key to our individual pilots motivations lies in their background. Many have taken part in 0.0 sov warfare, many have been pirates, many have been 0.0 residents. ALL of them love PVP.
The reason that pilots are recruited into NMG is for the variety and substance that merc works gives you. It's not about the cash, although you can make healthy amounts doing it if you're good.
If a pilot in Noir. suddenly doesn't want to do merc work they are fine to leave and find something else to do, no hard feelings. The motivation is the PVP with a purpose, and it's what's personally kept me at this game for over a year now.
Once we're on contract EVERY pilot is expected to be in the contract area. If a pilot was wandering off and ratting in 0.0 without some prior agreement with the officers and Alek then they'd soon find themselves without a home when it came to the roster review.
We make it very clear at the recruitment stage that if it's just the sov holding part of Noir. that appeals then NMG is not the place for you. After all, there are so many other alliances to join if you want to rat in 0.0 (and where the ratting is better!) The sov is our home when not on contract, but as you can imagine Alek does everything in his power to make sure we're employed more often than not.
TL:DR We're fine, thanks
Oh, and we knew that Jimer's comment was going to get thrown in his face at some point

Your killboard is public, I don't understand how you can say with a straight face it hasn't affected your ability to get contracts. Or is 12 kills a day the usual for an ongoing contract. I was being a bit generous with 12 kills, you seem to prefer a 6 average, and the bulk is pos mods. I'm ignoring the R3 fight on Thursday as you seemed to have 9 alliances on your side and got a massive 35 kills for the day.
Help me out here, you claim to be a merc corp, and kill less than a solo pirate in low sec, whats going on? Anyone in Noir with a touch of honesty to answer the question?

Hey there
The last contract we were on finished yesterday (28th May), and it wasn't a particularly busy one. Mainly babysittting a very quiet WH towards the end.
We're now on R&R until after the alliance tournament as taking out contracts would get in the way.
Our kills/day until after the AT will be incredibly low, so check back in a few weeks.
Just to reiterate it's the tournament, not holding sov, that's holding us back from contracts at the moment.

Mercs are hired for targets too tough for the hiring party. You know, people who shoot back. You might need their services if you start running into something else than shuttles and untanked Badgers.

please make it so then, if you really believe what you're saying.
Did you say make it so
I do believe that a merc corp with a huge list of blues defeats the point in being a mercenary. Maybe the way you are pleading for someone to pay you to do something/anything is an indication that you have placed yourself in a detrimental position. You have 12 kills on your board today, that's less than I had and I'm not in an alliance.
I'm going to say KIA right about now, there I said it.
indeed, then just wait a bit and let me grab my -A- hotline so that I can post a witty reply about it. ---

Noir. disbanded about 12 months ago but there are a few die hards left that like to pretend they still do contracts. I'm surprised you didn't already know this as you have clearly done your homework on them.
(for the uneducated 'defend my POS' is as valid a job as 'destroy my enemy' only one of them doesn't get you kills)
Edit: Quotes around the jobs for readability

Oh no, it definitely happened. It's just funny that losing two carriers to a very well planned attack by PL is something to try and smack us about

I think it was changed from "going to be a fun cap fight" to "screw that lets just self destruct for the insurance".. (which is actually a good thing if you are hiring mercs)
