So I recently started playing a day or so ago, ran some missions, did some mining, I enjoyed it all. Today, however, I was in the mood for something a little more exciting and decided to make up my own mission. I decided - mostly as a challenge - to see how far in space I could get before getting killed.
Now, I understood that this mission would entail losing a ship, so I created an alt just for this purpose. Random character, free starter ship, no real loss. I can say I was pretty excited and a little paranoid for the first 15 jumps, especially as I left highsec and went into lowsec, as I was told people are usually waiting at the gates to gank incoming ships. "Bring it on!" I thought, that was my mission.
Anyway after about 40 jumps with little sign of life, most in low and nullsec, I was getting rather bored. I was told that Delve space was very hostile and could head there. I Well after about an hour of bouncing around Delve space with no excitement I docked at some random corporation's station and logged off. Maybe tomorrows trip back to highsec will be more exciting.
Although I didn't actually complete my mission and it was rather boring, I did at least learn how to fly a route without using autopilot. I also saw some player wreckage and several warp field disruptor bubbles, and flew through each one just to see what would happen.
So, is nullsec normally this boring? |

alot of 0.0 is pretty lifeless, the choke points is where your more likely to come across camps, One of the first things I did in EVE was to do a 100 jump route all through 0.0 (goonspace,BOB space etc) and apart from a couple of systems most of the time the systems were empty.
Unfortunately repeated nerfs to 0.0 have made alot of the systems worthless and not really worth renting. God Said "Come Forth and receive eternal life!"-á I came second and won a toaster. |

In low sec your ship may not be worth the sec hit for the locals to come kill you. When we are roaming we let tons of ti.y neutral ships go without looking at them twice.
Null is hit or miss. Also, many null alliances are rather busy atm. As for NPC null people do live out there, sure. It's also the weekend and Sunday night is often a quiet night I've found. |

Not to mention the current war in Delve, that might be concentrating most nullsec players in this region these days.
I did a trip to low/null in my early days, hardly saw anyone in low, but the second jump in null I ended in a warp bubble and got podded back to highsec. Further visits in low were just similar, hardly any life sighting. Only time I got in null since, was when we had a K162 to NC sov space, but the nearby systems were mostly empty. I recently auto piloted through 49 jumps in nullsec and came across a total of less than 20 people in local. It's said that only about 15% of eves population live in nullsec. The vast majority live in highsec.
There's plenty of valid reasons for this, but that just means nullsec is very empty. If you can sneak a ratting ship out there, you could make some decent money. You wouldn't complain about needles when you get a tattoo. So why would you complain about PvP when you play EVE? |

NPC null-sec has NPC stations. So yo can dock there. They are exactly the same as high-sec stations. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Sometimes. Sometimes not. If you thought that every single gate would be camped, well that's logistically and motivationally impossible. A single gate camp for every 50 gates is a lot to people who don't have a death wish.
In other words, there are plenty, but it depends on the time you're playing and luck, in general.
If you really want to get yourself killed, open the star map, filter by security status and how many people are active in the system. Go to the null sec systems with 30 + people, and enjoy the fireworks.
Trust me, it's far more exciting to try and survive in null sec when you are risking something of value, and have an actual purpose for being out there (ratting, exploring, pvp, etc..) |

Wrong again
Player owned station = outpost = on your overview unless YOU disable it.
Player owned STRUCTURES aka POS need to be probed down. But a POS you can't dock at, not even if you are the owner. All you can do is sit inside the forcefield which isn't called Docking.

* Stations are always on the overview. * POSses (or Player Owned Structures) are not.
You can dock in NPC stations (like Blood raider once in Delve), but likely wont be able to in player controlled stations. Usually you need good standing with the controlling alliance.
POSses are towers that are constructed on moons to do all kinds of stuff, like for example mining moon minerals. They shoot at you if they dont like you. :)

Sorry, just getting into this, but what defenses are in place in low/nullsec for miners? Isn't a hulk a mining ship, and not a combat ship? It's not terribly difficult to play conservatively with nullsec mining. Watch local, when someone from a corp/alliance you know to be hostile or don't know comes into the system, dock up or otherwise fall back to a defensible position (inside a PoS shield, for instance). Same principle in lowsec.
If you want to be able to mine whenever the hell you want, obviously you need to set up an active defense, i.e. have other players in system / in fleet to come blow up someone that tries to kill you if they try anything. Note that you'll typically want your defenders on-grid and far enough away from you that a bomb won't hit both you and them at the same time. You'll also still want to watch local to know if more attackers are coming into the system and be prepared to flee.
Your biggest danger in terms of region is going to be low sec, where you don't have any big alliances backing you up or defense against things like hot drops. In null you're both probably going to be a member of an alliance that can defend you and you're simply less likely to see anyone else in your system if you pick a decently out of the way one. |

Null-sec is safer in this way:
You have blue standings with friends. You have no standings or negative standings with anybody who is not your friend. So judging from local you can quickly see. It's either blue and (likely) won't shoot you or it isn't blue and will kill you, no middle way. Also null-sec alliances have intel channels for their space / region, so likely you know well in advance an enemy fleet is on it's way to you.
High-sec:
Local over about 40, means it's Possible that at least 1 (or more) of those 40 people are out there to suicide gank you. But you don't know for sure if they are. Those 40 people could be all miners, those 40 people could all leave you alone but those 40 people could also be a fleet looking to kill miners.
That's why null-sec is safer to mine, it's more clear what is your friend and what is not.

Hahahaha. Another person who knows nothing about nullsec mining.
Rats in nullsec can easily be tanked even with a mining ship. And you can go afk if you do it properly (ask your mining buddy to warp you to safety etc.)
I was talking about solo mining. Also my arguing skills are at level 0, so I stop here and dock. /jump
When solo mining, then I really agree you can't go AFK (or you can and wake up with the notification you need to update your clone)
Still leaves that you can tank the rats, so rats aren't really the problem. Other players can be. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Drakarin wrote:Well now I feel like an idiot. That's eve for you though, not sure how I never heard about actual stations you can dock at which players can build but there you go. This is only in sov null sec though that I hear, not NPC null sec.
Pick any station in a SOV null-sec region and set course to it. 99.5% of the times you won't be able to dock.
NPC null-sec has NPC stations and is NPC controlled (hence then name NPC null-sec).
SOV null-sec has player build outposts and conquerable stations. Both which the controller can set rules on about docking, station tax etc. etc. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. wormhole space can get pretty exciting once you start poking about in other peoples holes. i'd say of all the holes i've been into and probed theres about 1/3 to 1/4 chance someone will be waiting for me at the exit WH. not using situational awareness, a cloak and MWD and diving/probing into multiple holes WILL get you killed. |

You could visit Providence. All Stations here are free to use for everyone unless he has proven himself to be hostile. It might be wise to check yourself / your corp / your alliance in this little tool before travelling to Provi. |
