Adequate hardware? adequate hardware ?!?!?!?! You don't even have that for fleet fights in the game... come on CCP Prioritize.

Will the 'Open Alpha' be open to anyone who applies, or pre-selected accounts? (Please don't do the latter )
Will it work through a proxy server? (Almost certainly, but I just want to make sure)
Apart from being able to send/receive eve-mails, is there any other ways you can interact in-game from this?
Thanks!
As stated in the devblog, this public alpha is open to anyone on Singularity. I can't see why it should have problems with proxy servers, it's just a webpage :)
And yes there is more in game functionality, like the new contacts/standings system.

Because unless there's some concurrent additional API releases, there's gonna be a _lot_ of automated scraping going on. Not to mention that this would probably herald a move away from API keys back to the old way of giving apps your account username/password. Which would, y'know, do wonders for security.
We are definitely aware of this and as far as I know the plan is to offer functionality on the API as well as EVE Gate, for exactly the reasons you state.

Sorry but the first release (beta) won't have that, and I don't know where that is in the priority list.

I'd love to see a CCP hosted Killboard system. Corp/Alliance hosted killboards could and most likely would still be used so they can see their own specific corp/alliance's efficiency.

edit: I know we have facebook style updates, I mean full length blogs :)
There is a rather lengthy list of features (such as that, killboards, mobile device support, and many others) on the to do list. Once we get EVE Gate launched and in solid shape we will start working away at them in priority order based on what the producers feel the players will benefit from the most. As CCP Karuck mentioned that priority order isn't determined yet as we are focused right now on the initial delivery.
The good news is we have put in place a full time team dedicated to EVE Gate development so this isn't a deliver it and walk away scenario, we will be working on this continually. We are being careful to put in a very robust base because we are going to be building on top of it literally for years. There's lots of good stuff to come, and everyone's feedback will be really helpful in making it happen.
(...and yeah I can be rather verbose, but I'd like to give you as much clear information as I possibly can and I'm not as good an artist as CCP Nimbus)

my main questions are
- Did you use the same UI style as is ingame ?
- How will the login be handled ? (security measures)
- Are you realy realy sure you got a dedicated team for spacebook and realy wont walk away from it in a month ?

I hope you have addressed the fact that more access levels are needed than division between "full" and "limited" api key.
I'd like to see possibility of creating multiple api keys with varying levels of access. Maybe even hand picking which api functions are available to the specific key.
At a bare minimum, have separate write (send mail, modify market, write to chat) and read keys.

try and break it
seriously alpha testing is for as ccp have said stress test the hardware so get as many people online on it doing as much as possible, hit all the nooks and crannies of the web page, if it craps out you did a good job it will generate logs for ccp to gorge on and find bugs and streamline

sooooo, this means the IGB player will support flash or some dev is yelling oh crap and facepalming now?
accessing eve gate via the igb is redundant, as you already have access to the info that eve gate will provide ingame ______________________________________________

You, sir, show that your alliance name is well choosen.
Form all the blogs about (fleet) lag an EVE's general setup, it is pretty clear that hardware is not the problem. It's code/design (decision), which causes lag.
