When CCP?
Sorry but I want a new shiny to fly around. Combat prefered but anyone else feel the same way? Even if the ship is not to solve some current problem or to tackle a new scenerio indroduced at the same time.

They only introduce new ship classes when they have a role for that ship class to fill. The Orca fills the role of "intermediate hauler between industrial and freighter" as well as "mining support ship for hi-sec". When they come up with a role, they come up with ships to fill those roles. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Intermediate capital ship for high sec. something between a dread and BS that can be used for fleet warfare in empire. Maybe even a small version of a support carrier for remote rep without a much smaller drone bay or something.
at high enough prices, suicide ganking would still not be an issue.

Hows about a mini carrier that can jump, and can carry a certain number and class of fellow pilots with it ? Player operated fighters so to speak, specialized frigates and maybe cruisers. Similiar tactic to B-Ops jump bridge, but with more awesome layered on it.

Ive always wanted a BC that uses large guns. Make a sort of mini battleship. Give it 4 hardpoints and an inherent 100% damage bonus. Give it no more damage related bonuses but its BC skill bonuses could have a range bonus and a a speed bonus.
You could even give it fewer overall slots than tier 2 BCs, make it fragile but fast and hard hitting at range.

hurm... ships that can jump through star gates and do dps, and are used for fleet warfare! what a novel idea, certianly this ship would need a suitable name indicating that it is strictly for combat situations... battle-something maybe
and wait! a ship that specializes in remote repping and can use gates.... you just blew my mind man, certainly no one has thought of this before and man, once ccp reads this I'm sure they will bang out such a ship in no time, to fill this glaringly obvious hole.
edit: all trolling aside I'd like to see BS and BC sized recons and HACs (BS sized curse..... yeah.... and abaddon with SAC integrated resists)

I'd like to see a dedicated salvage ship. Every carebear starts off with a destroyer and that's fine for L1 & L2 because most spawns are within 20km. After destroyers players graduate to some 8 high slot BC but the reach is still only 20km. Marauders have 40km of reach but even thats not enough when wrecks are up to 100km appart and a Marauder only moves at ~120m/s. Even a Hurricane with MWD looting and salvaging wrecks > 60km appart is a chore and zero fun.
I want a ship with bonuses to give tractor beams 80km of reach, +200% tractor speed, and 3,000m3 of cargo space. No bonus to salvage range.

I'd like to see Tech 2 versions of the Tier3 Battleships as sub-capital Dreadnoughts. With damage between a normal BS and a Dread to allow smaller fleets to engage small POSs in high sec and Class 1 or Class 2 wormholes. In my jaunts in WH space I've seen a lot of undefended or poorly defended POSs safe in the knowledge that Dreadnoughts can't come to their hole and BS fleets would take too long. It would be nice to shake things up for these corps.

Very flexible on what they can do with subsystems, and not hard to train, the idea for them was to give new players options without the long t2 train times. Of course with prices they are a little bit of a fail still. ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

I want to see Tech 2 Tier 2 BC's. Make it so they can use jump drives as well as gates. Give two classes, one like a HAC, that is focused purely on doing damage, and the other like a Recon ship, focused on ewar and stealth, and able to use a covert cyno to jump. I wouldn't go as far as to give them a cov ops cloak, but at least a bonus to cloak travel speed and no targetting delay after uncloaking.
More than anything I just want to see more sub capital ships capable of using jump drives, and since tier 2 BC's have no tech 2 counterpart, they seem like the logical choice. Wouldn't mind a Jump Drive subsystem for tech 3 either.

A dedicated salvage/loot ship would be nice. Give it say, tractor beam velocity bonuses equal to those of an Orca, targeting range to boot, +5% salvage chance per level of *ship*, 8 highs, one or two mids for a prop mod/sensor booster, three lows for cargohold or whatever else you want to fit in there, and maybe 2000m3 base cargohold.
And don't make it tech II. Make it a second-tier destroyer or something... or a third-tier BC. Third tier BC is probably better, except it really isn't living up to the "battle" prefix.
And since I'm that kind of guy who AFK's missions in a drone boat, I'd like a combat ship who absolutely relies on drones/fighters. A "pocket carrier", if you will.
Entire new class of ship, no turret slots (in fact, we might as well go with no high slots at all, this is a pure combat ship and not a RR platform), meds and lows based on faction, 30k m3 drone bay. 250mbit Bandwith.
Bonuses: +1 drone controlled per level to max of 10 (except fighters) +200% drone control range +10% Drone hitpoints, velocity, and damage per level. Can control up to five fighters ______________

Science ship, not just salvage ship. And to repeat what I suggested last month or whenever that came up, might as well make it a t3 subsystem. Bonuses to salvage/arch/hacking/scanning, do something else to make it useless as heavy tackle ( hell, make it incompatible with points, whatever ), nice all in one plexing tool that ppl will love to blow up in lowsec.
Fixing stuff people never fly now would be the equivalent of new shinies, I'm a bit short of ideas for missing ship classes.

Fixing stuff people never fly now would be the equivalent of new shinies, I'm a bit short of ideas for missing ship classes.
I never actually expected to find any geniuinely good ideas in this thread, as I'm of the school that believes that new ship classes should be introduced as and when necessary, and right now there would be too much overlap and as such an entirely new class of ship would be unwarranted. That, coupled with the fact that there are a lot of obsolete ships that aren't used as it is, so these should be somewhat remedied first.
However, I quite like the idea of this suggested "Science class" of ship - with bonuses to archaeolog, hacking, moon/asteroid analysis, cargo scanning, salvaging/tractor beams and so forth. A bit of careful thinking would need to go into what bonuses it would grant due to the possible overlap with scanning/ewar bonuses that other ships get, but I think it might actually work.
Additionally, this new class would probably be best suited to say ORE or similar, unless CCP could come up with enough useful bonuses to spread evenly across the races. If they could, and there was one per race, it'd probably be best as a frig/destroyer hull to keep the amount of required cross-training to a minimum - destroyer hull would be my personal preference.
Interesting.

T3 Frigates might meet some of those roles. At the very least it's not far fetched for them to have a tractor/scanning bonuses similar to current T3 Cruisers. The real question is how many mids/lows T3 frigates will get.
T3 Cruisers can have as many mids/lows as a battlecruiser or even a battleship, so a T3 frigate with extra mids/lows (for cargo expanders or hacking/scanning/etc. modules) might be a reasonable expectation.

Give us T3 Frigates. As a role I propose "Tactic Frigate". With tactic I mean that the frigate should be able to switch modules in space (without a POS but taking a lot of time to switch a module like onlining modules in space) so that you can tactically adapt to various cirumstances.

Also to all those talking about mini carriers we have one its called a domi most of the ideas in this thread could be made just by adding some new rigs or mods ie drone damage mods or drone bay extender mods

I hope you are not suggesting more active drones. CCP won't (and shouldn't) reverse its drone overhauls. Masses of drones cause lag and drones are easymode autoplay enablers.

That is more than enough for most L4 missions, don't make it TOO easy... 3. It should not be tech2, but should have a tech 2 variety.

Good thinking! I trained Destroyers to V when I was going through L2 missions and I've regretted taking the time ever since, but this would make me change my mind if it were a second-tier T1 destroyer. I'd definitely get one of those, even if it were T2 - That is, I would unless they're planning to nerf mission loot to cut the amount of minerals in the economy and make T1 production profitable again - then I'm not so sure, the ISK might not be worth it.
Originally by: Duchess Starbuckington There are plenty of existing ships in dire need of a fix first.
^^^ THIS ^^^ is very true
How about they un-suck rockets? That would be like getting a whole new class of ship, since the ships that specialize in rockets never get flown.

That's a good take on it too, make Industrials worth training for. Somebody else suggested making the "science" ships part of ORE, which would be good for salvagers too. You're right about the cargo space, I almost made a comment about it in my original post, but deleted it since I thought I might have been mistaken. And I agree, Orca and T3 don't fill this role at all - they're WAY too expensive and too skill-intensive. Plus, you need to dual-box to use a destroyer with an Orca or use two people to salvage, which cuts your effective ISK/hour considerably.

Im not sure if Tech 2 capitals will float, but seeing as a Supper-carrier is essentially a Tier 2 carrier then perhaps a tier 2 Dreadnought isnt all that far out.... then again, we dont need something with more dps just more usability, dreads are such majestic ships yet they are one ofthe ships with the fewest uses
Tier 2 Dread class will most likely be called 'Goliath'
In all seriousness tho i would personally like to see something that bridges or shortens the gap between conventionals (lets say battleships) and Capitals
I also vote for a Tier 2 Freighter (note tier 2 not tech 2) basically its a ship carrier as opposed to a cargo carrier, Highsec capable just like any other freighter but with a maintenance bay the same size as or larger than a carrier, give it only a small cargo, say 10,000m3 just so you can move any mods along with the ships that you cant have in the cargo bay at time of transport (this includes exotic dancers )
this 'ship carrier' concept has been suggested just before CCP created small and med rigs, and in all honesty its a good one as there is room for a tier 2 freighter and a role, hell it can have the same base specs, just a bay difference and looks obviously

FYI
Corvette = ship class right below frigate in size
FYI
Battlecruiser = same size as Battleships but faster.
If you mean battlecruisers that existed in real life, it was usually ships a little bit smaller than a small battleship, using guns a little bit lighter than most battleships and armor a little bit heavier than most cruisers. Although sometimes it could be the other way around (like in Eve).
But I don't see how that has anything to do with my post or the post I was replying to.
The word "Corvette" in any type of system for classifying ships there is (at all, ever, historical or fictional) implies a very small ship. Smaller than a frigate. If they added ships small enough compared to existing ships that it would make any kind of sense to call them "Corvettes", they would be way too small for it to make sense for them to have jump drives. ----- 'In Eve, as in real life, if you are bored it's your own fault.' |

Edited by: Korinth Daemenshan on 25/03/2010 20:25:33 If I was to add a ship to the game, it would be a sub-capital combat vessel. Akin in size to the Orca, but who's primary aim is to destroy Battleship class vessels, and is large enough for dreadnoughts to hit with some reliability.
In general (though there are plenty of exceptions clearly) Eve has a 'one size larger is good at killing the previous size' system going on. Destroyers are pretty good against Frigates, Cruisers are pretty good against Destroyers, Battlecruisers to Cruisers, Battleship to Battlecruisers... But if you go the next step to Dreadnoughts they're near useless against battleships, and are only good against structures / similar or larger vessels. Carriers can fit this 'anti battleship' role somewhat mind you, but they're far from pure combat vessels with their logistical abilities.
The 'mini-dread' would use capital class weaponry, have no siege mode, but the tracking/explosion radius/etc bonus' necessary to make the weapons useful against battleships. Tank/EH between the BS and the Dread, and be able to fit long range weapons to have some capability against sniper battleship fleets. Balancing the fitting would be interesting to avoid cheese, but definately doable.
Adding this ship would provide a ship with a true anti battleship role, give dreadnoughts a more viable role in fleet engagements, and provide an effective counter to the roaming BS sniping fleets.

I think a sub-capital fitting capital class weapons may be a bit overkill for the anti-BS role. While an anti-BS class is a niche that has not been filled, maybe that's a good thing.
With the current setup, capital class ships are on a separate level from BS ships all together. One needs a capital class to trump another capital. I believe it should stay this way. This creates a sort of gap between the whole capital and sub-capital class ships. To bridge that gap would take away from the novel power and gravitas of a capital vessel.
Personally, I would like to see T2 variants of the tier 2 Battlecruisers. What niche could they fill? How about that anti-BS role? It would be a little wacky, and personally, I have no fraking clue as to how the ship would be set up. I don't see many other roles that need to be filled, combat-wise.
I think we are most likely to see ORE produced science vessels, designed to salvage, hack, analyze, etc. While racial variants of T1 Industrials for this purpose would be nice to see, I believe CCP would be more likely to design one ship model instead of 4.

Like someone said...ship designed to manage pos.
Space to carry pos, fuel, mods. Not just 1...loads, like a freighter except -
*Reduction in anchor/online time per level *Can anchor 1 extra structure per level once trained past level 2 *Ability to empty silos and stuff without having to trek all the way over. *Can change ammo remotely for pos guns *Ability to run links to enable an overheat function for pos gunners *fecking built in magic mod that gives you a proper grid and stuff to work off
Make it slow as **** and no lows/mids.
Cant think of a combatone lol
