Thought my PC was going bad on me. Same problem, started about a week ago. Cleaned inside of tower, checked vents, etc., seemed to help for awhile.
Tonight crapped out on me again, rebooted twice, then all was okay. Adjusted shader settings to low, seemed to help, but problem recurred.
My graphics card seemed to suddenly run real hot, then flickering, black screen, etc., all that has been described above.
WTF CCP, we all can't be having the same problem by coincidence!!?!

Made a concentrated effort to put the jukebox on "pause" after each login last night. Had no problems after playing 4-5 hours.
I also re-installed the current full client version and as mentioned in an above post, the latest Nvidia driver dated 25 March 10.
Maybe these are the fixes, who knows......

Right. Eve played well over the weekend, and then last night I started playing and the problem showed up again right after I began. Tried to use the repair.exe tool first, but that is broken also. Even after downloading full version twice and installing in the Eve program file.
Strange thing is that my system crashed some 10 minutes after I had gotten out of Eve via the task manager. My system has never crashed for any reason in the past.
I am hoping this situation isn't stonewalled as is the sound issues.
I realized my first re-install didn't include uninstalling first, so I did that as a last resort. Of course all presets are gone (overview, market quickbar, etc).
Ok CCP, the ball is in your court. And please explain the repair.exe tool snafu also, as that is an effing waste of time.

Edited by: GangsterofLove on 13/04/2010 01:09:03 Vertex,
I put in a bug report on this maybe over a week ago, I hope you guys have found the log useful.
However, I think I might have figured out the trigger. As soon as I quit running missions for a few days, the problem went away. When I went back to mission running it crops up again.
So, its seems Nvidia graphics card combined with mission running causing [something something] result is lag.
Hope that helps you guys pin this down.

ok i fixed my problem. first part i did was updateing my stoneage oboard soundcard drivers.... *coff* about that part support was right ^^. that made it a lot better. but still the problem occured from time to time. every hour or two the same **** started again. restarting helped or the next hour or two. i finally fixed it with a new graphic card. yeah i know....thats not an option for most ppl here -.- so its not very helpfull i guess. i am running eve now with a HD5870 card and all is perfect. |

Same here. Switched out the Nvidia 9600 with the one I upgraded, Nvidia 8400. No problems. Sending back the 9600 to ASUS as I've only had it 8 months and the warranty is for 3 years.
Really need to build a good gaming rig from scratch, but it'll have to wait ($$$).

Maybe that's the key and not Nvidia.

I'm also having a very similar problem: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1302794. I just filed 94444 for you Vertex. If there is anything you need, please ask (including VNC access).
Short version: -Eve ran fine for several months. -Starting yesterday 4/15, Eve works fine for a few minutes then FPS tanks to 2-5 and Eve client CPU spikes from 10% to 50-60%. It doesn't get better. If I restart the client quickly, it loads with the problem. If I wait a few minutes before restarting the client, it works fine again for a few minutes.

Ok I have noticed that a lot of people so far have been running on outdated drivers (not everything) but a few of you. Can everything please check your current driver version and do an update by getting the latest driver here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk
Latest should be 197.41 and report back here if this helps with any of your issues. So far 2 people have reported that a driver update has fixed their problems.

I just updated all the drivers I could find, including NVIDIA. The problem is still happening. I updated my bug with new logserver, screenshot, and dxdiag information.

I dont know if I'm experiencing the same issue but the symptoms appear similar in that the client will freeze for a second, the screen will go black and then become completely unresponsive. Attempting to do anything will turn the screen completely white.
For me, this only ever happens right at the point where you're going to load a grid. There is usually an extremely short 'catch' or hiccup in the client just about the time you're entering a grid anyway, but in cases where the client freezes, that hiccup becomes a stuck client.
Any attempts to close the client fail. If you rightclick anywhere on the desktop, the entire PC locks up and requires a forced reboot.
As it happens so randomly (I can go days without it occurring, but other times it can happen gridload after gridload) I haven't had the opportunity to submit a complete bugreport.

Ive got a similiar problem the last weeks.
Sometimes the game just stops "working".
I dont get Blue-/Black- or whatever-Screen. It just freezes, but my PC is still running normally at the background.
Music or Movies im watching while playing are still running etc. but i cant switch to desktop....
It sucks if i have to reboot my whole PC just because the Client doesnt let me switch to the desktop (cant even use taskmanager at those moments).
Really annoying...

Gkar: I am extremely interested in your issue as you appear to be having massive fps highs and lows, can you please run logserver for and check your performance to make sure the fps is still all over the place.
Also if you do crash can you please add /minidump into the end of your EVE shortcut in the target field, this will tell the client to create a minidump of the crash and logserver will tell you where it is located.

Question to CCP Vertex:
Why, in the situation where the client black-screens and becomes unresponsive, does the server not realize this and force the character to emergency warp?
I'm running 3 clients and am in my own fleet and all 3 are in a fleet warp to a gate. One of the client suffers a lock up just upon grid load (screen goes black, I click on it and it goes solid white.) I can still issue fleet warp commands and that character responds as if the client is still active. Last night, for example, this happened an for an hour I was still able to fleet warp this character around the system even though the client had locked up.
Would not the server recognize that the client was unresponsive?

I'm not quite sure why that is happening to you (the black screen then white screen) but as for the server detecting an unresponsive client, that doesnÆt happen as the connection is still active. If you sit in space without clicking on any services i.e. wallet/corp etc would you want to be considered inactive and warped away?
The server only realises you are unresponsive when the connection between the client and the server has ended, what you are describing is a client lockup which doesnÆt mean the connection is at fault or should be terminated. If you havenÆt already I suggest filing a bug report with as much information as possible on your lockup issue.
