Edited by: Kyra Felann on 25/03/2010 07:19:55 OP, maybe you should loosen that tin-foil hat. I'm sure it really does block mind-control beams, but I think it might be cutting off blood to your head.
How much did you pay when you started playing? I bet it was $14.99 + $5.00 like everyone else (or the Euro equivalent). It's been like that since I started playing in 2007.
I think of it as buying the game for $20 and getting a free month. Most MMOs cost $50 and include the first month.
If it's now $9.99 + the $4.99 activation fee, it's now $5 cheaper.
I really have no clue what you think you're complaining about.
TL;DR: there has always been a $5 activation fee for the first month, at least since 2007 when I started.

Math
A) 30 Days + No Free Trial = 9.95 + 5.00 = 14.95
B) 30 Days + 14 Day FREE Trial = 44 Days = 14.95 + 5.00 = 19.95
Hence,
A) 14.95 / 30 Days = 0.49 per day
B) 19.95 / 44 Days = 0.45 per day

Bad form, and unworthy of CCP.
I hope some dev reads this thread and passes on the information. Would be good to see advertisement for this offer retracted asap.

I think Marketing is one of the best ways to learn critical thinking as they bend over backwards to distort. They can't lie but they can do similar by omission and suggestion. 'Economical with the truth'. I don't care about the 5 Euro or whatever it is but that advert is misleading, its as simple as that. It definitely suggests a one off fee for the 30 days and the way the extra 5 Euro is spun is irrelevant.
Certainly we should always read the small print but it's damning of the marketing so called profession (it's not a true profession it has no ethics) that we are forced to do that to avoid falling into their traps.

just seen that and it's **** poor of CCP, surely business is not that bad they have to resort to such shoddy methods of business.
I don't care if it's marketing, commercialism or what-not, it's stains the character of the company and is basically calling their fan base fools.
Less of the BS CCP, no need to sink to these pathetic levels.

Edited by: Avius Rhinstien on 14/06/2010 01:02:03 everyone whining and crying go back to WoW please, CCP doesn't charge for expantions, gives us the ability to play for free if you can buy plex's and it's $20 to buy the game with a free month or $5 and then $15 for the subscription. If CCP really wanted to make money they should follow the WoW formula, $45 game with a free month and then what $25 for each expantion....thats a $95 game, you paid $20 so quit your *****ing

On a very different hand... the buddy system ... Simply find someone who already plays this game, ask them to send you an invite, and then activate it (for free!) Since the original player also receives 30 days, there is very little reason to say no.
21+30=51 day for 14.95, or $0.293 per day IN ADDITION TO THE 30 DAYS THE OLD PLAYER RECEIVES. Which in total is... 14.95/81=$0.184 per day on 2 accounts. |

Originally by: Sendaton It's good the marketing dept is comming up with new offers for it's player base, however.
This '5.00 Activation Fee' smacks of typical marketing deception tactics, used to draw you in and make you think you are getting a better deal than whats actually on offer, used by a good number of todays ISPs, subscription services, and in small print on various phone contracts.
9.95 to make a new account? Neat, then 14.95 after that. Then you find out the first month is exactily the same cost factoring in $5.00 of apparent 'costs' to the company, such as electricity, hamster food, beer, and so on.
Please don't start going the way of typical deceptive advertising practices, if it costs 14.95 for the first month, then thats what you should be putting down, otherwise I want a full breakdown of exactily what costs to CCP are covered by this 'activation fee'
tl;dr: EVE's marketing workers need a slap in the face
I told you guys in my thread about how CCP is a bunch of weasels, but you didn't believe me and trolled me. Aww, sweet vindication.

Originally by: Serpents smile I saw that too, made me smirk. Its a very cheap way of advertising something, pretending its cheaper now then it was before. But then again, meh, CCP is in the business of doing business = profit.
If they want to look cheap, so be it.
actually this way off deception is not legal in some countries, not that they give a damn xD ___________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded |
