Firstly, CCP obviously spelt Feldspar wrong and were too embarrased to change it back, which makes Mr.Celebrity's well known tattoo even funnier.
BUT WAIT, theres more. To determine the meaning of the word we look to its German roots, and i quote;
Feldspar is derived from the German Feld, "field", and Spath, "a rock that does not contain ore".
Bolded for effect.
Yes, that says all Chribba's veldspar contains no ore!
That gentlemen, is all.

But it's veldspar.. it's iconic and unique to eve. Wouldn't be the same if it was feldspar.

A site where users attempt to mock and explain everyone and thing in life, under the guise of cynical quasi-intellectualism.
It should be both noted and ignored, embraced and dismissed, laughed at and revered.

Slippy,
Please be aware the "ore" Feldspar, does not actually contain the unobtainium science fiction metal tritanium. Nor can you build four kilometer long spaceships from it. Even more surprising is the fact that standing over a chunk of Feldspar with a laser pen blinking it off and on for days on end will not make you richer than Bill Gates.
So no, they didn't misspell it.

Then why use pretty much identical names for ores then? Plagioclase, Scordite, Pyroxeres, Kernite etc etc etc
Did the creative team get lazy when creating names for all the ores?

You'll be complaining they didn't rename trade goods either, and what about materials from moon mining!? Oh gawd, those are all too real!

I think that topic died before it even started, I'm sure Chribba knew the full ingame and out of game histories before he got the tattoo.

"Veld" is closer to the German 'Welt' (world) than 'Feld' (field) imo. [Though you could also concieve the world as a sphere of overlapping fields of different kinds and polarities (electromagnetic, gravitational, space, time etc.) reducing the difference in these interpretations. ] "spar" is 'tree' in Swedish if I remember correctly.
So this is ccp's hommage to the Weltenbaum Yggdrasil, anything of matter in EvE contains a part of it. Even every time you are reborn a piece of it is placed in your ship. Nothing wrong there.

Which do you think is more likely--that CCP intentionally based names of ores of of real types of rock to make a fictional ore that refines into fictional minerals, or that they got things so terribly wrong that they got the spelling for several rocks wrong as well as all of the minerals?
I think most people here are aware that there is a real rock called feldspar, and that it is the basis for the name of the fictional ore veldspar, not some unintentional misspelling.
Let me try my hand at this silliness:
You're Caldari and everyone knows that CCP just spelled "calamari" very very badly and didn't want to change it back, so that means you're really a big marginally intelligent squid.
See how little sense that made?

They also mispelled: Jasper (Jaspet) Hemimorphite (Hemorphite) Hedenbergite (Hedbergite) Pyroxene (Pyroxeres) Scorodite (Scordite) Crocoite (Crockite) Bismuth or Bismite (Bistot)
I bet CCP most definitely mispelled ALL of these rocks and are much to ashamed and embarrassed to correct them! ----------

Yup, that's the only explanation--that CCP really fails at spelling! They couldn't possibly have made fictional versions for a fictional universe by slightly changing the names of real rocks and minerals.

Edit: Clarification. I mean that you didn't just look at the sign and say "Oh that shops logo is a tree, therefore Spar must mean tree".
Could you please fix so it doesn't look like you're quoting me saying that? ----- 'In Eve, as in real life, if you are bored it's your own fault.' |

Sounds like someone from Iceland with a heavy accent dictated the names of the rocks down the phone to the guy entering them in game.
Bit like what happened with the Mitsubishi Starion. Y'just know it should have been called the 'Stallion', but an asian accent got in the way.
