Missile Launcher Operation V (2 hours, 43 minutes, 21 seconds) Cruise Missiles I Cruise Missiles II Drones V Drone Interfacing I Drone Interfacing II Drone Interfacing III Drone Durability I Drone Durability II Caldari Cruiser IV Caldari Battleship I (1 hour, 4 minutes, 58 seconds) Caldari Battleship II (5 hours, 2 minutes, 35 seconds) Scout Drone Operation IV Scout Drone Operation V Gallente Drone Specialization I Gallente Drone Specialization II
the above can be done in any order. Because its 100% must to go into lv 4 anyway. Now we need some dps
Caldari Battleship III <-- cheap dps Rapid Launch IV <-- at iii-->iv, this is 1D for 15+dps Caldari Battleship IV <-- 5-7Days for 30 dps...ill skip this for...
Cruise Missile V + Specialisation III
This whole package enables Cruise Missile Launch II, Fury/precision missiles which gives incredible DPS increase. It takes 20-25D to train this, and you get almost +150 to +200 dps from this "package".
In order to abuse fury missiles, you need Rigor rigs x 3 + TP, that means
Target painting I Launcher rigging III Guided missile precision III Target Navigation IV
with these, your fury missiles will do full damage against 200-250m/s velocity Battleships AND Battlecruisers, and do 75% damage against cruisers at 300m/s. Your T1 missile will do 100% to any orbiting non-frigate, and 1-2 hit kill frigates.
Now your fit will inevitably be forced to add a quantum CPU, because ballistics + cruise missile II hogs CPU, but its okay because the increase in DPS is enormous from fury cruise missiles.
Ballistic control II x 3 Quantum CPU x 1 Pheriferal Damage control x 1 OR PDU II
Heavy Cap booster II (cap 800's) XL Shield booster II 3 shield hardeners for mission specific rats PWNAGE (TP)
Cruise Missile Launcher II
Further improvements would be finishing missile skills and caldari battleship.
Also when you start earning in lv 4's, you can switch 3 BCU II+ Quantum CPU+ XL booster to 4 Caldari navy BCU + Caldari navy XL booster
by this time you should be able to reach 700ish dps even with sub-par missile/caldari battleship skills.
Just note that cruise specialisation is so important. 20 days is a lot. But spend a remap or something on 15 perception 9 memory/willpower and it will go by quickly.

@Backho I see you're going for somewhat more expensive things: What about going for a Gist B-Type Large Shield Booster coupled with a Caldari navy Shield Boost Amplifier instead of a cap booster? It costs a bit but it frees up a lot of CPU and you can with good skills run it all the time. Also the "shield/second" is almost the same as an X-large without a shield boost amplifier.

Except, you know, it runs out after 5-6 mins. CCC ravens died after QR missile changes.

well, if you dont use cap boosters, you are pretty much forced to go hardcore CCC-flux-capbats, because you need at least +55-+66Gj/s to run enough HP/s on an XL( or might as well run large boosters)
and default skills only give like +25 or so.
for XL CN boosters, its not only to dodge Shield op V, but it save tonssss of CPU (like 2 modules worth of CPU) and its absurdly useful specially for SP hungry pilots. This is probably the only faction mod really worth its Iskies.
It also have 4 second duration instead of 5 second, which means its muuch harder for rats to overwhelm your tank, and makes it much safer to use at 30-33% shields

Great thread everyone!
Outstanding level of information.
Might I ask how things evolve from starting in a Raven to being almost a perfect Navy Raven Pilot? (in terms of skills).
I read somewhere in here that Sentry drones were the next evoloutionary step for drone usuage....... I had never considered that, so it's information like this that is invaluable.

You can use 3 sentries with a CNR (with room for a flight of light drones in drone bay). Sounds good but you end up hardly ever use them because 1) they very rarely reduce the number of volley needed to pop a ship 2) your better off just popping cruiser or bigger with missile while your light drones eat up the frigates. Also their optimal range is like 25-50km (think warden might be a bit more) which is torp range so might as well just invest your skills in torp golem instead of waste it on T2 sentry.
Not much else to train for good CNR pilot than missiles, missiles and more missiles.

I got 48k for range on a bouncer II from EveMon without additional range from suppport skills.
That make a difference?
In relaton to missile skills I have all supports at level 5 and Cruise specialisation at 4. I really dont think the level 5 here is worth the time....... maybe a day long down the path.

Edited by: Widemouth Deepthroat on 15/06/2010 02:58:28 I just find the dps from 3 x T2 sentry isn't enough to reduce the number of missile volley to pop anything but the weakest ships.
It could be useful for killing frig/destroyer before they get in close and orbit but that would mean targetting them and manually get drones to attack, personally I'd rather pop the big stuff while the light drones do the work for me.
edit: the sentry drones are very nice for pos shooting :D

I've just started down Raven path and would like to see what it is like in 3 more months.

I think you were not correctly informed. Post-QR, the Rigor rigs make a very noticeable differences on sub-bs targets when using cruises. Combined with a painter the effects are great. High quality hits even on elite cruisers. Your drones should be killing smaller stuff but you can still hit something as small and fast as spider drone with a cruise missile in a pinch if you have rigors and its painted. See some of the work of Liang Nuren or Stoicfaux regarding this. It can be shown mathematically and in-game how much of an effect they give.
Raven Rigs:
Best bang for the buck: 3x Rigor I Slightly more bucks up and more bang: 1x Rigor II, 2x Rigor I Expensive but you get every last inch: 2x Rigor II, 1x Flare I
I'd say for a standard Raven build, do the 3x Rigor I. If you upgrade to a CNR later, consider one of the other two, especially if you are pimping it out a little anyway. All those rig combos leave at least 50 calibration points on the Raven and so will fit on the CNR.

At most (and only on suboptimal targets, where the sig. radius benefits of the Rigor rigs are fully utilized), you'll receive ~54% more damage using 3x T1 Rigor Rigs and T1 cruise missiles as opposed to no damage-boosting rigs. (1/(.85^3))^(ln 4.5/ln 5.5)

First thing: 54% sounds like a pretty good damage boost. Is that not enough in your mind to justify using them?
Second thing: I think you are misunderstanding the way missile damage reduction works a little bit. The max possible effect the rigs have is situational and not necessarily capped at a 54% max effect. Sure you can predict how much they reduce the explo rad of your missiles but you need some specific cases of target sig rad and velocity to compare the missile to for a dynamic damage computation.
Third thing: A painter makes a noticeable difference even/especially in conjunction with Rigors.
Fourth thing: Rigors + TP makes Furies quite viable. You can easily kill BC in a couple volleys. Sometimes only one. BS get annihilated.

2) As per fitting, i believe...it would be better to have a shield booster efficiency item. Trick is they take a bunch of cpu. I'll need to free some up just to it one.
I wouldn't use TPs on a ship w/ Rigors. TPs are generally a substitue for Rigors when you want to use a cap stable setup (ie CCC rigs).
TPs are also good for configurations that utilize Torps or Assault missiles. (ie Golem/Tengu)
*edit- damn necro thread.

As a returning Raven Pilot, I have a question about Painters.
I usually run lvl4's with my raven tanking, and dual clienting my Manticore alt in for dps. I have a painter on my Manticore, and am still using the old CCC setup for the raven. Both toons have around 3.5 mil SP.
So my question is, if I am lighting up a target with the painter on the Manticore, does the Raven get the benefits of it? I know its a bit of a noobish question, but we all have to start somewhere |

I admit I havent followed the thread since page 2 and I dont normally fly a Raven, being a Turret Loving kind of guy, but I wondered how the following Raven fit would be received by the readers. With my skills it is cap stable, but dps and tank might seem a tad on the low side (all skills set to V) dps:519, tank:548 vs Guristas.
[Raven, CapStability] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II
Cap Recharger II Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I Heat Dissipation Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Wrath Cruise Missile Small Tractor Beam I Salvager I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Core Defence Capacitor safeguard I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5
so is this a fail fit? --- I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place |

With a fit like that, it is obvious you are mainly an armor tanker.
First: Cap Stability is overrated. What you gain with a cap stable setup is the ability to walk away in the middle of a mission if an emergency comes up or if the significant other calls. But how hard is it to pick a celestial and click "warp to"? Secondly, you do not have to carry cap booster charges in your cargohold. In practice they aren't even used in most missions. And they are cheap to replace when you do use a handful in a harder mission.
On the other hand, missions are all about killing things faster. Just because you have the ability to sit there and tank full room aggro for 23 1/2 hours does not give you more isk in your wallet nor better standings with the agent. If you are not trying to get more isk or more standings, what are you doing in a mission?
The second problem with cap stable setups is all the slots they use up to achieve it. You are using all three rigs, three low slots and one mid slot for cap stability. Go back to the setups in post 9 on page 1. One cap booster can replace all of those and only use a single mid slot. All of the freed up slots can then be used to increase your DPS to get the missions done faster.
Specifically for your fit: For shield tanks, the "double repper" setup is a waste of a mid slot. Use one XL shield booster instead. It will give you as much shield/second and at the same shield/cap efficiency as two larges. You can use that freed up mid slot for either another hardener or a Shield Boost Amplifier.
Capacitor Power Relays penalize Active Shield Tanking. So they are terrible things to fit onto a ship which relies on a Shield Booster. What is the point of having more cap, if you are hurting your shield/second and your shield/cap efficiency? Especially since the tank is the only thing that uses cap on a missile ship!
You have no target painter and no rigor rigs. Therefore, all but the slowest and fattest NPC battleships will signature and speed tank your cruise missiles. You may get your EFT 519 DPS against Guristas battleships, but basically nothing else.
Only 2 BCUs limits your DPS again. Three or four would be preferable.

^This.
More DPS = Faster Killing = Bigger Effective Tank = More ISK!
And Target Painters...most underrated module in EVE. Find a way to fit one on every/any mission ship. Period.
