By the way, applying with a full API is quite a common thing for wormhole and 0.0 corps, especially if you're going to have access to corporate POSes.

Goonleak: the problem with being an official recruiter is that you are responsible for every person you recruit. If one of them turns out to be a spy or decides to turn coats along the way, even if it's in two years, it is considered your fault and you are also kicked from the corporation (or fined billions, depending on the severity of the crime). Thus, security deposits are standard and recruiters are very careful that they don't allow idiots into the corp.

Steps to take to stop hating the Internet:
1. Relax.
2. Turn off your computer and go outside for a few hours a day. Play some sports. It is also recommended to take a 15-minute break every hour while using a computer.
3. Get a spouse. This helps a lot.
4. If all of the above fails, disconnect your modem and seek immediate counseling.

Check everything except mail and transaction/wallet journal history. This will seriously screw up their system and give you a good laugh in the chat room.

So I noticed TEST is taking pages from GoonSwarm's recruiting manual. Got convoed yesterday by a member of TEST who offered me a position, had me provide an API and register an app, but then told me after reviewing my corp history (which is not excessively long, and is comprised of one long term corp which no longer exists and the remainder high sec carebear/pvp corps) was told that it was dubious and I could pay a 500 million ISK security deposit which would be returned + 10% interest.

Yeaaaaahh no thanks.

Confirming that a simple auth process and security deposit gets you into GSF no problem. Anyone claiming otherwise were spies and dumbs that got weeded out.

The goons seem like good people to me and give much advice. Currently the recruiter internet space ship is helping me to find a mexican speaking corp in the goonswarm federation for me to join. Sadly Internet space ship said it may take up to 3 weeks for her to get it sorted out. The good news is that it is going in the right direction and the attention your post has brought to this scam generated positive results. Right away I'd like to state that I don't personally hate goons, in fact they are good for lulz and killmails, it's that I just either have nothing to do at times with my alts talking to their "recruiters" (while bored, having a beer and a laugh at it).

I don't get why some people seem to have problems with the recruitment process. I got in without any problems, and got my deposit back with interest. It took a couple weeks (GIA is *very* thorough), but now I'm all set up in Deklein. It's been great - I was about to quit the game out of boredom before I was lucky enough to get into GSF...

I have too much respect for myself to join goons. Anyways, who would want to be around a bunch of people like that? Most of them prob don't even really like each other. Just the mentality you would have to have to actually want to be a goon. I think of them as the type of people who will back the strongest side in a war, even if that side is completely despicable. They do this because they are cowards and are afraid to lose and are afraid of real challenge.

This is a game, and its fun to act in a way you normally wouldn't in real life. And we do, because its just a game, and we don't take it as deadly seriously as some others do.

As far as us being afraid of a real challenge, everyone says that. I guess we reached the top by hiding in our shells and never taking risks, right? Probably has nothing to do with countless battles, learning from our mistakes, and making alliances with like-minded corps. It has to be our cowardice and lack of skill that launched us to the top.

Inputting a partial api code into our recruitment system does not "seriously screw it up", it just generates an error because the user wasn't smart enough to follow simple directions. A sure way to be rejected from membership.

Of course, GoonSwarm got to be the size it is by scamming every potential recruit it can, after all, and not recruiting anyone. Some goons do scam, and if you're dumb enough to fall for it, well, sorry. Sucks to be that dumb.

when he says but you aint paid you drop the name from the list and say you paid him

Inputting a partial api code into our recruitment system does not "seriously screw it up", it just generates an error because the user wasn't smart enough to follow simple directions. A sure way to be rejected from membership.

how does one even apply to the goons?

If a Goon contacts you to recruit you, it is a scam.
