Tis always a nice to catch a pod, so why not? They often get away, the ones that don't are often inexperienced - so it's a nice practical lesson for them eh! And as said above someone in a pod can feed intel to the enemy, leaving one following you about is prolly not the smartest thing.
Also, why would I want to leave my sworn enemy with his implants in his head? I sure as hell do not expect him to leave me with mine.

As has already been stated, there are lots of reasons to pod but I usually do so for tactical reasons. Who knows were his clone is. If he is several jumps away then you are in control of the field for that much longer and can loot, salvage, set ambushes, whatever.
If the enemy can just reship from a nearby staging area you never know what they are going to come back with.
Besides, once your blood is up it is hard to keep from going NBSI.

If you can get the pod in 0.0, pod him. I actually had a guy I managed to tackle down to pod thank me for saving him a 40 jump trip. If it's lowsec, do it, if you think you won't affect your sec status too negatively.
If you're in high sec, get the thrasher, and pod the crap out of him. If anyone is AFK in high sec in their pod, they deserve it. (Of course, see the comment about sec status.)

Makes sense to pod wartargets in high-sec wars as they will likely have decent implants, thus helping to win the ISK war. Makes sense to pod enemies in 0.0 as they cannot then scout / be a warp-in. Makes sense to pod in lowsec because every non-fail pirate corp needs a respectable corpse collection.

in wormholes, sometimes we pod to get them out of local and to give them a free ride back to empire for their new ship
sometimes we will leave the HIC and most of the gang off the field and let them escape to see if they come back in something bigger. you'll be amazed at how many do.

In 0.0, I'll pod every time I get a lock and gun activation. It's part of the fun of driving a muninn. *squish*
In low sec space, it kind of depends upon what my sec status is and if I can spare the sec hit.

I will always try to catch a pod and ransom it if circumstances allow it. If not - I will just kill it for nice minus security boost. It's hard to keep it at -10 without pod kills if you do any ratting/missioning.

Some people want to be podded so they don't have to make a gazillion jumps back to whence they came.

i Dont pob generally unless its a tac situation like them bein used as a scout. an since most of my time is in WH or high sec, thats not an issue. besides, pod killin is plain creulty if the person is older. its very possible they have lagged out (happened to me recently). sn i consider it unsportsman like to pod someone wiht millions in implants becasue of a lil thing like lagg. Ransome is another issue though. if they dont pay up, or look like they are stringin me along while their buddies are headed over ill pod em an run. an as far as the previous "slaughterhouse" comment goes jsut becasue i dont favor poddin doesnt mean im a ***** an if u wanna talk **** like that i say u should fight folks like me more often. im a gentleman, not a *****. big differnece my mentally challenged friend.

getting podded generally doesn't matter. keep clone up to date and stagger your implants to whatever your training and its no big deal.
Sometimes when going on epic 80 jump 0.0 roams, when I dont feel like jumping 80 jumps back..i'll self destruct my ship and my pod to get home. Its not a big deal. |

I had an awesome 1v1 in an Enyo versus a Moa. I popped the Moa, and caught his pod. I was going to pop him, but it was such a good fight without any smack that I simply warped off with a /gf in local and left him to it.
If he'd been an arse, then yeah I'd have podded him.

Always go for the pod, as I never bother with complete nubs anyways it will end up costing my target some isk in implants and clone costs as well as making their day slightly worse.

The only pod I ever regretted killing was the loser of an honored inty duel, did it more as a reflex and as it was instaed (arty Claw ftw) so no time to correct the action.
Not out of honor or anything, mostly because post fights chat are often very interesting.
So yes, pod as much as you can, it's a game feature, you paid for it use it. -- 081014 : emoragequit, char transfered to a friend, 090317 : back to original owner blog |

I don't pod in lowsec, dont want to destroy my sec status
When it comes to 0.0, depends if I feel like it basically, but when it comes down to it, if someone lets me get a lock on their pod, their asking for it. ~

100% depends on my computer's volume.
If its up, you just HAVE TO do it for the squish.
If youve got speakers muted then maybe let it pass...
nahhhhhhhhhhhh, squish em anyways!

I usually get pods tackled with my keres (2x small rails lol) so only thing I can kill in a fleet for sure is the pod. And ofc. killing the pod in null sec is a part of danger in the first place, besides they would kill my pod for sure so I kill their pods just to keep score on the positive.

With insurance factored in killing a pod is often more of an isk hit to a player then killing ship.
So pod everything you can imho.

I always try to catch pods so that they can be ransomed. I have found that, in general, very few people pay ransom for their ships. Maybe they're too proud, or they think the loss isn't that bad, or that they can wait for a white knight in shining armor to come save them. Losing a pod sucks though, because a loss of implants can be far, far more than their ship. And if they decide not to pay the ransom, I must do my part to keep my end of the bargain. Corpses are fun, too.

Edited by: knentil on 08/05/2010 19:42:24 Edited by: knentil on 08/05/2010 19:38:58 Well podding in wardec is diff than low sec podding. (Which, lowsec podding was the basis for the thread)
Either way, I deserved it for screwing around earlier in that blackbird. Was fun anyways.
unfortunetely, you get no tears or ragequits from me. :)
Edit: and i didn't think this thread would last so long.

I pod for one of 2 reasons: 1) the person smack talks during/before combat (something I never do) 2) the person scrams me, then tries to ransom me, and I then beat him in combat
While 2 hasn't happened yet, if someone is stupid enough to allow for it, then they deserve to be podded.
But overall, I'm too nice of a guy to pod. And since I don't have any wars and don't travel in 0.0, it isn't tactically needed.

I have a smallish, but cozy, collection of corpses, unfrozen they make a nice comfortable bed.
But to answer the OP, the only reason NOT to pod is to avoid the sec hit. Podding situation endangers no sec hit? Time to smash and grab!
