Ive only been playing for about 4 months, which of course makes me a complete juicy newb.
But theres one thing I really don't understand about pvp.
Do you guys try to pod your victims or let them warp off?
I can understand both perspectives.
It sure is great lulzs to **** someone off when they have over 200mil of implants on them, but from the perspective of getting kill mails and ISK from the loot, isn't it a better idea to not pod people? (Or maybe you get more points in kill mails for the podding, I don't really know, only played 4 months)
I always thought, by letting the pod live, it allows them to refit a ship faster and therefore you get to play target practice again, much faster than if you set them back a few implant sets..
Maybe I just don't get the pleasure of griefing?

I don't think people reship after they lose a fight just to come back after you , never happened to me.I try to pod wenever I can.

I don't pod on character in low sec I don't want to go pirate...sec hit is just too much.

Podding someone in EVE is akin to "Tea-bagging" someone in a FPS.

Largely depends on circumstances..
Do I have a particular reason to not want that person around whether they are in a pod or not?
Has that person done something to incur the wrath of my corp or alliance?
Am I at war with that person?
Have I been paid to pod that person?
Have I been paid not to pod that person?
Has that person got a bounty on them?
These are just off the cuff, I'm sure there are more reasons out there....

I'll usually try for a ransom, but only if local is 100% clear of neutrals and hostiles (except for him). I'm usually solo, negotiating a ransom takes a while, and I'm just sitting there - as vulnerable as he is just about - while I'm doing it.

Podding is a matter of course. If you can kill the pod, you kill the pod. pods are hard to kil though, by anything but sensor boosted frigates. It's not teabagging, it's just another part of the ship to shoot at.
If you cannot get away you die or get ransomed. If you can, well, thank god you still have your implants. It is a coup d'gras if sorts, but it's not an insult.

This is the main reason. You can have all the way to -1.99 standings to get into highsec (the tradehubs)... Podding takes about -0.50 standing loss alone maybe more. Also its kind of a common courtesy since most lowsec pvpers fly with a full stack of implants. If they dont insta warp out its due to lag.
Now in 0.0. yes please pod me.. Dont make me travel 40+ systems just to get another ship

For me it really depends from person to person. I like good fights, if someone gives me a good fight then I'm not going to try to pod them.
If I catch some noob belt ratting in most cases I don't even bother for the pod as I don't want him to be totally discouraged. I'm not here to be a greifer, even though I am a Pirate I tend to still want others to enjoy the game.
On the other hand if it's a aged player that should know how to get his pod out then I'll try to catch it and go for a ransom. That's assuming it wasn't the above mentioned GF situation.
If it's a fleet fight I typically ignore pods due to other targets taking top priority. If I'm in a gang and we catch a belt ratter or target of opportunity then by all means I go for a pod ransom.
If I dislike the person or they are a trash talker, then I always go for the pod kill.

I pod anytime I can in 0.0, I don't even ask for ransom. The reason is I got podded many times in 0.0 my self due to bubbles. Allthough I hate bubbles and don't participate in bubbled gate camps, I have been caught in them where I couldent gate crash or insta cloak or got decloaked etc..., and i have been podded. So I am just returning the favor. Podding noobs is even better, it puts them on a steeply sloped learnig curve. And also , turst me in a fleet fight they are the first ones to come after your pod, due to them thinking they can get an easy kill mail ( pods are 1 point and 10mil asset loss i think). They will ignore the primary guardian and try to lock your pod :). You will see them fly semi tanked frigates with all their weapons spread out. They will drop tackle and fit a shiled booster and a sebo to get in to as many kill mails as possible, by having absolutly 0 benefit to the fleet they belong in. So they deserve it the most.
Low-sec, or high sec suiced runs are no podding zones for any of my characters due to above mentioned secuirty penalty and also my respect to the security status of the system.

Ive sat on a gate in 0.0 for hours blasting pods with smarties. One time after a fleet battle I had 6 Ushra Khan guys land on my gate  I wonder how much those clones cost...

Since I am in RVB, most pods just fly right past me because of the rules.
In all other instances, I'll go for the pod. My philosophy : If they are dumb enough to let an unboosted cruiser lock them, they deserve the podkill.

Why is this even a question? Ofc you pod. Every time. Without hesitation. Ppl that trashtalk podding are the same people that enjoy their giant steak hot off the grill with butter/garlic sauce dripping off the side, but could never find the fortitude to scope out a slaughterhouse.

If I catch 'em, I'll pod 'em. They provide intel and warp-ins for enemy fleets, so it's smart to make sure they don't hang around.
The exception to this is low-sec, as the sec hit is too high for my tastes (I don't want to go -10).

Why wouldn't you pod is a more interesting question.
You've blown up his/her T2 ship so that's an almost total loss running into hundreds of millions potentially. Why on earth (other than sec hit) would you hesitate in any way to pop the pod?

When my security status was an issue. I just scammed and webbed their pod and waited for as long as possible before letting the little pigeon go free.
Sometimes demand a ransom and take the sec hit nevertheless if they didn't pay up.

if they warped to the gate where your smartbombing BS is sitting 5km off.

I have centrylink DSL, which means all the tricks in new eden only save my pod about 50% of the time that enemy goes for my pod. My only alternative is not to undock. As mutnin said on (very)rare occasion I'm FCing I will ask gang not to pod certain people. The rest of the time I kill every pod I can, spread the grief. My internet won't let me live, why should I let you. Jumping gates are no fun either, grid loads take so long I can barily catch a criuser in a ceptor.

Ask CCP to fix Centrytel or Centurylink. Can't improve service, change your name!

My rule of thumb:
If I caught your pod, and haven't received ransom within 30 seconds of accepting, you are waking up in a station. Else, if you aren't in this situation, your pod made it alive and you don't need to worry.

Didn't see if this had been said already but ALWAYS pod in 0.0 warfare. It kills off a scout that the enemy might otherwise use to keep track of how many of you are in local ect.

I used to get my ass handed to me on a regular basis, but I never *****ed about it. Hell it's part of the game. At least I haven't come across anybody that has freaked out about it like those WoW freaks do, they get killed in WoW and they act like its the end of life as we all know it.
